Mrs. Bates died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Oct. 21, 1914, in Morgan County to Jessie Tucker Wallace and Ettie K. Roberts Wallace. She was a retired licensed practical nurse and worked at hospitals in Birmingham. She was the widow of Leonard E. Bates Sr. and the mother of the late Sherri Condry.
Survivors include two sons, Leonard E. Bates Jr., of Grand Bay and Larry Joe Bates of Pascagoula, Miss.; one daughter, Gaye Royuallyn Crocker of Trussville; one sister, Grace Taylor of Hartselle; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Bates, Eddie Crocker, Randy Bates, Ron Johnson, Jimmy Donald and Jerry King.

He died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. He was born Aug. 13, 2000, in Birmingham. He was the grandson of the late Denoris Warren and the late Julia Mae Collier.
Survivors include his parents, Monica Spangler and Jason Collier Sr. of Decatur; two brothers, Jason Collier Jr., and Tywaun Spangler, both of Decatur; four sisters, Latavia Spangler and Daja Collier, both of Decatur, Latoya Collier of Moulton and Jakwana Collier of Tanner; and his grandparents, Mary Spangler and Robert White, both of Decatur.

Mrs. Ferguson died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at her home. She was born April 30, 1915, in Morgan County. She was a homemaker and a member of The Shepherd's House.
Survivors include five sons, David Ferguson, Marvin Ferguson and Johnny Ferguson, all of Athens, James Ferguson of Madison and Herbert Ferguson of Decatur; three daughters, Evelyn Winsett of Somerville, Martha Gossett of Athens and Margarett Swan of New Hill, N.C.; one sister, Marie Taylor of Decatur; and 28 grandchildren.

ATHENS -- Funeral for George Thomas 'Tom' Pylant, 77, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron Dunnavant and the Rev. Jason Pylant officiating.
Burial was to be in Hastings Cemetery.
Mr. Pylant died Tuesday, Nov, 14, 2000, at his home. He was born June 3, 1923, in Limestone County. He retired as a cemetery worker from the City of Athens Cemetery Department and was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Pylant; one son, Roger Pylant of Athens; four daughters, Rita Riddle of Toney, Vickie Funk of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Charlene Gault and Rhonda Currin, both of Flintville, Tenn.; three sisters, Nina Turner of Prospect, Tenn., and Elizabeth Gates and Margaret Rolin, both of Ardmore; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Dewayne Barnes, Bobby Joe Van Hoozer, Derick Pylant, Brandon Pylant, Billy Riddle and Larry Pylant.

Mrs. Allen died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at her home. She was the widow of Robert O. Allen and sister of the late Harold C. Smith and Bob Smith.
Survivors include one daughter, Beth Allen Norwood of Decatur; one son, Nick Allen of Madison; four sisters, Dot Blackburn, Margie Rose and Carolyn Turner, all of Athens, and Jo Lively of Decatur; two brothers, Bill Smith and Kenny Smith, both of Athens.

Mrs. Goodwin died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Oct. 19, 1910, in Morenci, Mich., to Guy Martin and Martha Fay Gindele. She moved to Decatur four years ago from Toledo, Ohio, and she had also lived in Tucson, Ariz. She was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 2898 in Toledo and a charter member and past president of the Golden Age Club in Tucson. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was the widow of Arthur Leroy Goodwin and mother of the late Kenneth Leroy Goodwin.
Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie Jean Biggs of Brooklyn, Mich.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

HUNTSVILLE -- Memorial service for Marie Emma Louise Lechner, 88, of Huntsville will be Friday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. at Twickenham Funeral Home South Chapel with the Rev. David Lewis and the Rev. Duane Maas officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island, Neb., cemetery.
Mrs. Lechner died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. During World War II she was a guard matron at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island. She was a teacher in Nebraska public schools for 30 years. After retiring, she was a tour guide at the Star Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in Grand Island. She was a volunteer at Grand Island Hospital and the Red Cross Blood Mobile. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island until moving to Huntsville in 1988. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Andrew Chapter 41, Ladies Auxiliary of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Decatur and a lifetime member of the PTA. She was the stepsister of the late Maxine Pasciak of Huntsville.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Lechner; one son, Larry Lechner of Huntsville; one sister, Edna Cole of Grand Island; two stepsisters, Evelyn Jensen of Huntsville and Dorothy Helmbrecht of Grand Island; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

Mr. Rogers died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Caraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham. He was born June 28, 1951, in Decatur to Dempsey Wade Rogers and Virginia Neville Rogers. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was a land surveyor for Garrard Land Surveyor of Haleyville. He was a member of Ninth Street United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was the grandson of the late Charles and Susie Neville of Decatur and Wade C. and Mary Rogers of Decatur. Survivors include one son, William Dempsey Rogers of Decatur; two brothers, John Neville Rogers of Decatur and Steven Tyler Rogers of Haleyville; two sisters, Gayle Wright of Decatur and Susan Basden of Hillsboro.

Mr. Alexander died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at NHC Healthcare in Moulton. He was born Aug. 28, 1904, in Morgan County to Lige Alexander and Maude Smith Alexander. He was superintendent at Southern Cotton Oil Co. and a member of Southside Baptist Church, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge No. 29 and Cahaba Shrine Temple.
He is survived by three sons, Ralph Alexander of Trinity, and Harry Alexander and Darell Alexander, both of Decatur; one daughter, Roberta Henson of Memphis; one brother, Wallace Alexander of Ringgold, Ga.; one sister, Zulee Bryant of Chattanooga; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Canerday died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Florence. He was born March 29, 1911, in Lauderdale County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a dry cleaner for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Maude Movaline Powers Canerday; one son, Dr. James E. Canerday Jr. of Florence; one daughter, Peggy Ann Hairrell of Decatur; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
