ATHENS -- Funeral for Jesse Eugene Carter, 63, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Bobby Pepper officiating.

Burial was to be in Sunnyhill Cemetery.

Mr. Carter died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his home. He was born July 18, 1937, in Limestone County to Oliver Gayther Carter and Jesse Pearl Roberts Carter. He was a self-employed brick mason and a member of Sanderfer Road Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cline Carter; one son, Randy Carter of Nashville; three daughters, Gail Frakes of Nashville, and Connie Gates and Cathy Pylant, both of Athens; three brothers, Billy Carter and Odie Carter, both of Athens, and Bobby Carter of Mobile; three sisters, Betty Bennett, Louise Davis and Eunice Gordon, all of Athens; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Don Boone, Jeff Carter, Keith Bennett, Mike Davis, Randy Gordon and Joseph Neeley.

Mary Pearlean Corum
84, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mary Pearlean Corum, 84, of Rogersville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Corum Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Corum died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Crockett Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. She was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Lauderdale County to Will Michael and Annie Robertson Michael. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd Corum; two sons, Danny Corum of Killen and Roger Corum of Lexington; one daughter, Sharon Parker of Rogersville; one sister, Marie Wright of Lexington; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Maggie Davis

ATHENS -- Funeral for Maggie Davis, 89, of Athens will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Hester Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Davis died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at her home. Further information will be announced by the funeral home.

Doris Jean Hargrove
63, office manager

ATHENS -- Funeral for Doris Jean Hargrove, 63, of Prospect, Tenn., was to be today at 2:30 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. John Norman officiating.

Burial was to be in Pettusville Cemetery.

Mrs. Hargrove died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Jan. 14, 1937, in Arkansas. She was an office manager for Dr. James G. Chambers III and a member of the Church of Christ. She was the sister of the late Fred Chandler.

Survivors include her husband, Morris D. Hargrove; two sons, Allen Stewart of Nashville and Todd Chandler Stewart of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Joan Dempsey of Decatur; one stepson, Lanny Hargrove of Russellville; one stepdaughter, Teresa Hargrove of Lubbock, Texas; four brothers, John O. Chandler of Marietta, Ga., Roy Chandler of Decatur, Robert C. Chandler of Lawrenceburg, Ky., and Hershley Chandler of Hartselle; two sisters, Brenda Armour of Decatur and Sandra Bond of Somerville; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were to be David Hargrove, Seth Bond, Brian Hargrove, Dale Chandler, Rickey Hargrove and Cory Chandler.

Luther Andrew Morris
76, Monsanto retiree

TRINITY -- Funeral for Luther Andrew Morris, 76, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Standridge officiating.

Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery.

Mr. Morris died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at SunBridge Nursing Home in Decatur. He was born June 26, 1924, in Lawrence County to Ray Morris and Deele Boyd Morris. He retired from Monsanto, now Solutia Inc., and also worked at Alabama Hosiery Mill. He was owner-operator of Luther's Used Cars and a member of Caddo Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Pearl Waters Morris; two sons, Jerry Ray Morris of Birmingham and Gerald Dean Morris of Huntsville; two daughters, Betty Morris Terry of Decatur and Charlotte Morris Landham of Killen; one brother, John Morris of Moulton; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rodney D. Terry, Craig Terry, Brandon Todd, Brian Morris, Joel Reagin, Mark Waters, Heather LeAnn Morris and Lisa Morris Tucker.

LaVern Edgar Norwood
83, pipe organ serviceman

Funeral for LaVern Edgar Norwood, 83, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Evans officiating.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial South Cemetery in Birmingham with Steve Atwood officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Norwood died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Mammoth Springs, Ark., to Floyd Edgar Norwood and Bertha Ellen Waits Norwood. He was formerly of Alabaster and Birmingham. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Decatur and a founding member of Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster, where he served as financial secretary of Gideons International. He serviced more than 150 pipe organs at churches and schools throughout Alabama for more than 50 years. He was the widower of Clarice Weeks Norwood, his wife of 42 years.

Survivors include one son, David Edgar Norwood of Decatur; two daughters, Verna Claire Norwood of Dallas and Mary Norwood Atwood of Chattanooga; two brothers, Raymond Ronald Norwood of Fairhope and Byron Brumfield of Mandeville, La.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Howard Tomlin Sr.
77, Tee Tile Co. owner

HAZEL GREEN -- Funeral for Howard Tomlin Sr., 77, of Hazel Green was to be today at 2 p.m. at Hazel Green United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Stringfellow and the Rev. Bobby Bentley officiating.

Burial was to be in Charity Cemetery with Gallant Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Tomlin died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 3, 1923, in Williamson County, Tenn., to James Aaron and Martha Jane Roberson Tomlin. He was the owner of Tee Tile Co. Inc. and a member of Hazel Green United Methodist Church. He was the brother of the late Ellie Mai Kendrick, Gladys Dobbins and Gracie Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Mae Lemmon Tomlin; three sons, Jerry Haven Tomlin Sr. of Athens, Jack Edward Tomlin Sr. of Hazel Green and James Howard Tomlin Jr. of Huntsville; six daughters, Gloria Jean Bentley and Joe Elizabeth McNeal, both of Athens, Joan Gail West of New Market, Jill Charmaine Adams of Aiken, S.C., Laura Jane Triplett of Madison and Julianne Grady of Hazel Green ; one brother, Doyle Tomlin of Spring Hill, Tenn.; two sisters, Glenda Boyd of Merritt Island, Fla., and Willa B. Parks of Spring Hill, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Maggie Davis
89, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Maggie Davis, 89, of Athens will be today at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Guy McDaniel and Doug Matlock officiating.

Burial will be in Hester Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 24, 1911, in Giles County, Tenn. She was a homemaker and a member of O'Neal Church of Christ. She was the widow of Hayden H. Davis, the mother of the late Franklin D. Davis, and the sister of the late John L. Felker.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Davis Christopher of Athens; one sister, Jennie Green of Athens; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy W. Davis, Ted B. Davis, Jimmy Davis, Phillip Christopher, Brad Christopher and Fred Robertson Jr..

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Anne B. Johnson

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Anne B. Johnson, 83, of Decatur will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Stephenson officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at her home. She was born Sept. 24, 1917, in Franklin County to Arthur Grissom and Annie Cordelia Tubbs Grissom. She worked for J.C. Penney Co. for 27 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband, Noble E. Johnson; two daughters, Nancy Groover of Hartselle and Suzanne Dunn of Nashville; one sister, Mat Fleming of Russellville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Dunn, Wade Dunn, Will Dunn, David Groover and Jim Peck.

Edith Pearl Lynn
66, homemaker

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Edith Pearl Lynn, 66, of Huntsville will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with Marty Jordan officiating.

Mrs. Lynn died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital East. She was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Flat Rock to Druey Stevens and Louise Stephenson Stevens. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Terry Lynn of Decatur; three daughters, Kathy Mills and Wendy Smith, both of Huntsville and Rita Thaler of Athens; three brothers, Jimmy Stevens, Billy Stevens and Kenneth Stevens, all of Birmingham; one sister, Peggy Reno of Birmingham; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Betty Jo McLemore
56, poultry worker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Betty Jo McLemore, 56, of Moulton will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Aldridge Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McLemore died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Aug. 29, 1944, in Moulton to John E. Williams and Lee Olar Colburn Williams. She worked with Gold Kist Poultry and was the widow of Paul McLemore.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Landers and Donna Solomon, both of Moulton; two brothers, Leon Williams of Danielsville, Ga. and Jessie Williams of Moulton; and one step-grandson.

Nephews and her step-grandson will be pallbearers.

Thelma Dale O'Dell
69, retired nurse

MOULTON -- Funeral for Thelma Dale O'Dell, 69, of Town Creek will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Raiton McCarly officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek. The body will be in the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mrs. O'Dell died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Muscle Shoals. She was born July 1, 1931, in Lawrence County to Fred Young and Hazel Gower, Young. She was a retired nurse and was the widow of Lyndon O'Dell. She was sister of the late Alton Young.

Survivors include two sons, Frederick L. O'Dell of Madison and Rocky A. O'Dell of Rogersville; one daughter, Suzy O'Dell of Muscle Shoals; three sisters, Bobbie Neal of Town Creek, Sara Johnson of Decatur and Eloise Bain of Muscle Shoals; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rickie Williams, Elton Kimbrell, Mike Kirby, Ken Johnson, Mark Haraway, Randy Cox and Patrick Bain.

Mary Emma Pepper
80, retired nurse

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mary Emma Pepper, 80, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Church of Christ with Jimmy Clark officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pepper died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Franklin County to Franklin Earl Gargus and Jessie Karrh Gargus. Mrs. Pepper worked as a registered nurse in Limestone County for 50 years and served as director of nursing at Athens-Limestone Hospital and Limestone Health Facility. She was a member of Bethel Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Sydney Pepper; one son, Earl Pepper of Wrightsville, Ark.; two daughters, Mary Sydney Alford of Coosada and Abigail Young of Foley; three sisters, Wynell Orman of Athens, Doris Wayne Newton of Huntsville and Bonnie Earle Bossi of Charlottesville, Va.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jerry West, Tim Carter, Larry Swindell, Daryl Dubois, Tim Pepper and Jeff Woods.
