Joseph Lewis Dement
75, field superintendent

Funeral for Joseph Lewis Dement, 75, of Vicksburg, Miss., will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Starnes officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive immediate family members from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Dement died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson, Miss. He was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Morgan County to John Dement and Cynthia Ann Hart Dement. He was a member of Bovina Baptist Church in Vicksburg. A World War II Army veteran, he retired from Willo Products in Decatur as a field superintendent.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Dement; one son, Randy Joe Dement of San Antonio; two sisters, Beatrice Vest of Decatur and Ann Dement of Birmingham; and two grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Byran Dement, Paul Dement Sr., David Stevens, Barry Martin, Larry Martin, Butch Tucker and Paul Dement Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bovina Baptist Church Building Fund, U.S. 80, Vicksburg, MS 39180 or the Children's Village in Jackson.

Lewis Albert Downs
87, retired farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Lewis Albert Downs, 87, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Anderson and the Rev. James Turner officiating.

Burial was to be in Pleasant Point Cemetery.

Mr. Downs died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Lauderdale County. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Florence and a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church. He was the brother of the late Ted Downs, Arlin Downs and Doyle Downs.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Downs; six sons, Gene Downs of San Antonio, Texas, Alton Downs of Decatur, Stanley "Doc" Downs, Jimmy Downs, Robin Downs and Danny Ray Downs, all of Athens; two daughters, Carolyn Beaver of Hartselle and Ann Pennington of Rockwood, Tenn.; four brothers, W. C. "Dub" Downs of Athens, George Downs of Huntsville, Talmadge Downs of Somerville and Devaughn Downs of Madison; three sisters, Valhree Marks, Robbie Evans and Nella Russell, all of Athens; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Point Senior Citizen Center.

Morris Dale Malone
52, electrician

ATHENS -- Funeral for Morris Dale Malone, 52, of Elkmont will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Sandlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Malone died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in Fayetteville, Tenn. He was born Feb. 7, 1948, in Limestone County. He was an electrician and a Vietnam Army veteran. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Joshua Malone of Athens; one daughter, Beth Hobbs of Athens; one step-daughter, Jo Heatherly of Huntsville; two brothers, Lester Malone of Rogersville and Laborn C. Malone Jr. of Kylesford, Tenn.; four sisters, Ada Teague of Virginia, Christine Cantrell of Anderson, Mo., Gladys Hardiman and Pauline Martin, both of Athens; and four grandchildren.

Flora M. Nelson
90, Goodyear retiree

Graveside service for Flora M. Nelson, 90, of Decatur will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Foreman officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nelson died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation. She was born July 22, 1910, in Morgan County to Daniel Williams and Annie Buford Holt Williams. She was a member of Deer Springs Baptist Church and a member of the Methodist Church of Birmingham. She was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., and she was the widow of Pat Nelson.

Survivors include one sister, Estelle Clark of Decatur.

Earline Mae Potter
66, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Earline Mae Potter, 66, of Moulton will be Thursday, at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Poss and the Rev. Malcom King officiating.

Burial will be in Owens Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Potter died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Moulton to Ellis Smith and Maggie Smith. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James Leoma Potter; three daughters, Brenda Gaddy of Hillsboro, Freda Simmons of Moulton and Wanda Heflin of Trinity; two brothers, Edward Smith of Flint, Mich., and Rachel Smith of Swartz Creek, Mich.; one sister, Shirley Parker of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joey Flannigan, Stephen Flannigan, R.B. Abbott, Steve Montgomery, Kevin Smith and Jesse Heflin.

Zollie Steen Jr.

DECATUR -- Funeral for Zollie Steen Jr., 52, of Decatur will be Thursday at noon at the Lurleen B. Wallace Developmental Center Chapel with the Rev. Franklin Elliott officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the chapel one hour before the service.

Mr. Steen died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Oct. 25, 1948, in Gadsden to the late Zollie Steen Sr. and Sadie Steen. He was a a resident of the Lurleen B. Wallace Center since 1981.

Survivors include one cousin, L. C. Smith of North Carolina.

Pallbearers will be employees of the Wallace Center.

Andy Wayne Terry

Funeral for Andy Wayne Terry, 33, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Lavanul Sherrill officiating.

Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Terry died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1967, in Decatur to Gaylen and Mary Terry. He was a member of Prayer Tabernacle Pentacostal Church. He was engaged to April Mills of Decatur.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Terry of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Holmes, Trent Terry, Michael Terry, Derek Sherrill, Johnny Kilpatrick and Billy Engle Jr.

Florence B. Van Kirk
87, retired secretary

ATHENS -- Memorial service for Florence B. Van Kirk, 87, of Athens will be Friday at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Sharman III officiating.

Miss Van Kirk died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Jan. 26, 1913, in Merrittstown, Pa., to George S. Van Kirk and Helen Baird Van Kirk. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a member of the choir. She retired after 40 years as a secretary with a publishing company in Baltimore.

Survivors include one brother, George Van Kirk of Athens; and two nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 2 West Washington Street, Athens, AL 35611, or to a favorite charity.

Everett L. Yelton
86, former Monsanto employee, retired cattle farmer

BOSTIC, N.C. -- Funeral for Everett L. Yelton, 86, of Marion, N.C., will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cane Creek Baptist Church in Rutherford, N.C., with the Rev. Lance Scarlett and the Rev. Earl Waters officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before services.

Mr. Yelton died Sunday, Dec. 3. 2000, at McDowell Hospital. He was born June 13, 1914, in Rutherford County, N.C., to Edgar Yelton and Effie Smawley Yelton. He retired after 10 years in the research department of Monsanto in Decatur, now Solutia Inc., to his cattle farm. He was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church and was active in the Republican Party. He was the widower of Pearl Puett Yelton.

Survivors include three brothers, Blaine Yelton of Charleston, S.C., Howard Yelton of Spindale, N.C., and Calvin Yelton of Morganton, N.C.; and one sister, Betty Yelton of Boone, N.C.

Alice Crabbe Bailey
86, homemaker

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Funeral for Alice Crabbe Bailey, 86, of Springfield will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bailey died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Springfield. She was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Springfield to George Alva Bowman and Louisa Pearl Parish Bowman. She was a 1932 graduate of Moorefield High School and was a member of the United Church of South Vienna, Daughters of America Council 22, Womens Club of America 366, a life member of the Ohio PTA, and was an avid card player, especially the game Bid Euchre. She was the widow of Charles L. Crabbe and Paul W. Bailey and the mother of the late Brenda Fellenbaum, the sister of the late Andrew A. Bowman and John R. Bowman and Vera M. Shatto. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Morgan County Sheriff Steve Crabbe of Decatur; four stepsons, P. Douglas Bailey of Marysville, Ohio, Richard Bailey of Cincinnati, Donald Bailey of Columbus, Ohio, and Dan Bailey of Atlanta; two sisters, Connie Weeks of Springfield and Lora Rafferty of Freeport, Fla.; four grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and five step great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Mabel Pride Bragg

Funeral for Mabel Pride Bragg of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Brad Walker and the Rev. W. K. Stephenson officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 5 to 7 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bragg died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born to Lawrence Thompson Pride and Mary Mhoon Pride in Pride, west of Tuscumbia. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Colonial Dames, the Decatur Cotillion Club and was founder and member of the Morgan County Junior Service League. She was a homemaker and the widow of Dr. John C. Bragg.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Bragg Donnelly of Beaumont, Texas; three grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Brown, Sam Haskell, Phillip Shanks, Paul Hargrove, Bill Wilson, Jim Bogue, Richard Parr, and John Caddell.

Patricia Tidwell Ellis
48, Tyson Plant employee

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Patricia Tidwell Ellis, 48, of Altoona will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Perkins officiating.

Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Ellis died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at her sister's residence in Eva. She was born June 24, 1952, in Morgan County to James Edward Tidwell and Ruby Brown Tidwell. She served in the United States Army and was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church. She was employed at the Tyson Plant.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Ellis of Altoona; her mother of Birmingham; four brothers, James Tidwell and Steve Tidwell, both of Oden Ridge, Bobby Tidwell of Somerville, and Kenneth Tidwell of Brooksville; four sisters, Josephine Owens of Decatur, Catheryn Truss of Warrior, Mary Henderson and Patsy Hollis, both of Oden Ridge.

Pallbearers will be James F. Tidwell, Bobby Tidwell, Kenneth Tidwell, Steve Tidwell, Mike Henderson and Kenneth Wigginton.
