ATHENS -- Funeral for Nellie Elmore Chittam, 92, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with James Bridges officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Chittam died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 14, 1908, in Oklahoma to Lauty Elmore and Grace Wilson Elmore. She was a homemaker and a member of Sunnyhill Church of Christ. She was the widow of Lawrence Chittam and sister of Louise McCrary.

Survivors include four sons, Juddie Chittam and Ray Chittam, both of Athens, Bobby Chittam of Lexington and Norman Chittam of Capshaw; two daughters, Sarah Christopher of Athens and Faye Christopher of Decatur; one brother, Roy Elmore of Summertown, Tenn.; three sisters, Mae Harwell and Lucille Hine, both of Athens, and Evia Adams of Toledo, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Ward Christopher, Ricky Chittam, Heath Chittam, Joe Chittam, Edward Bridges and Tom Hine.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Christopher S. Clark

ATHENS -- Funeral for Christopher S. Clark, 17, of Athens will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Eddie Gooch and Larry Inman officiating.

Burial will be in Isom's Chapel.

Mr. Clark died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Dec. 26, 1983, in Huntsville to Steve and Grace Clark. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a student at East Limestone High School, where he was a member of the FFA String Band.

Survivors include his parents, Steve and Grace Clark; two brothers, Adam B. Clark and Wesley R. Clark, both of Athens; one sister, Kelly Ann Clark; and his grandparents, John M. and Mildred H. Clark and Bryson and Mary C. Prichard, all of Athens.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Ezell, Lee Isom, Kent Isom, Andrew Hardison, Adam Hardison and Cory Sowell.

Doyal Parks Duke
65, salesman

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Doyal Parks Duke, 65, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Doyle Bullard officiating.

Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in Cullman County. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Duke died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born June 11, 1935, in Georgia to Ithama Swilling Duke and Zema Faye Webb Duke. He was a U.S. Army veteran and brother of Wendell Duke. He was a self-employed salesman.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Duke; one son, Craig Duke of Cullman; two daughters, Nan Davis of Vinemont and Cheryl Duke of Tucson, Ariz.; three stepsons, Jeff Williams, Greg Williams and Jack Williams, all of Hartselle; one stepdaughter, Gwen Waddell of Decatur; four brothers, Monroe Duke of Conyers, Ga., Delton Duke of Albany, Ga., Boyd Duke and Robert Duke, both of Cullman; one sister, Marie Chapman of Cullman; and seven grandchildren.

Thomas 'Harold' Garner

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Thomas "Harold" Garner, 77, of Athens, who died today, Jan. 12, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital, will be announced by McConnell Funeral Home.

Lydia Edna Gibson
84, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Lydia Edna Gibson, 84, of Danville was to be today at 2 p.m. at Danville Old Time Holiness Church with the Rev. Jerome Owens and the Rev. Kenneth Wood officiating.

Burial was to be in Friendship Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Gibson died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Jan. 8, 1917, in Morgan County to John M. Smith and Malinda Wilbanks Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Danville Old Time Holiness Church. She was the widow of Louis L. Gibson and mother of Howard Gibson.

Survivors include three sons, Harlen Lee Gibson of Danville, Milford Gibson of Inola, Okla., and Ronald Gibson of East Lawrence; three daughters, Louise Campbell of Town Creek, Eloise Eastmead of Rogers, Ark., and Dean Owens of Danville.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Purnell R. Hagood
84, garment worker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Purnell R. Hagood, 84, of Town Creek will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Okolona Baptist Church in Hatton with Sam Wallace officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hagood died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Virginia. He was born June 29, 1916, in Alabama. He was a retired garment factory worker. Mr. Hagood was a member of Okolona Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Voncille Burke of Virginia.

Charles 'Sea Daddy' Rose
64, building contractor

Graveside service for Charles "Sea Daddy" Rose, 64, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Rose died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at his home. He was born July 5, 1936, in Giles, Tenn., to Tom L. Rose and Clemmie Mooney Rose. He was a building contractor and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include his stepfather, Douglas Sapp of Decatur; two daughters, Gloria Clem and Vonda Winchester, both of Decatur; one brother, J.D. Sap of Decatur; one sister, Bobbie Jean Morgan of Decatur; and five granddaughters.

Oscar Oneal Smith
79, Athens Utilities retiree, World War II Marine veteran

ATHENS -- Funeral for Oscar Oneal Smith, 79, of Athens will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Bud White and Bobby Turner officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Limestone County. He was a retired Athens Utilities employee and a World War II Marine veteran. He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and an honorary Vietnam veteran. He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Lennie Mae Smith.

Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion. Honorary pallbearers will be Vietnam veterans and members of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

Bennie Karl Sneed
47, retired

MOULTON -- Funeral for Bennie Karl Sneed, 47, of Mount Hope will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Sneed died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Feb. 9, 1953, in Lawrence County to Billy Mack Sneed and Wynell Sneed. He and retired from Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems (Delphi Automotive Systems) as a metallurgist. He was the brother of Mark Sneed and was a member of Midway Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Lilly Thompson of Moulton and Bridget Sneed of Decatur; and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Talmadge Pierce, Henry Latham, Roger Pierce, Andy Evans, Bengey Sneed and Ronnie Jones.

Mayme Elizabeth Tibbatts
95, teacher

Graveside service for Mayme Elizabeth Tibbatts, 95, of Decatur was to be today at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham with Charles L. Murphree officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Tibbatts died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Dec. 24, 1905, in Birmingham. She was a teacher and retired from Burroughs Corp. (now UNISYS). She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Birmingham.

Survivors include one sister, Maxine Adams of Birmingham.

Memorials may be made to Committee on Church Cooperation or Hospice of the Valley.

William Wellden Tinnon
73, Tinnon's Transmission owner

ATHENS -- Funeral for William Wellden Tinnon, 73, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Probate Judge Mike Davis officiating.

Mr. Tinnon died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Hopkinsville, Ky., to Allen and Emma Leigh Tinnon. He owned and operated Tinnon's Transmission and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Montgomery Chamber of Commerce and Montgomery Business Association.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Brown Tinnon; four sons, Ricky Tinnon of New Hope, Terry Balch, Randy Lewter and Allen Tinnon, all of Athens; four daughters, Leigh Stewart of Denver, Melanee Perdue of Alabaster, Apryl Moring of Snellville, Ga., and Kay Puckett of Ardmore; three brothers, Gerald Tinnon of Ocean Springs, Miss., Robert Allen Tinnon and Lloyd Dean Tinnon, both of Athens; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Alphonso Troupe
41, maintenance foreman

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Alphonso Troupe, 41, of Huntsville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Madkins Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mitchell M. Walker Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Royal Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before service.

Mr. Troupe died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at his home. He was born April 18, 1959, in Tanner to Ben Troupe and Annie Stovall Troupe. He was a 1977 graduate of Tanner High School and worked as a maintenance foreman for EG&G, a contractor of Marshall Space Flight Center. He was a member of Church Street Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was the brother of Herman Lee Troupe.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Felecia Eldridge Troupe; two sons, Alphonso Troupe II and Adrian Troupe, both of Huntsville; his parents of Athens; four brothers, L.C. Troupe of Decatur and Ben Troupe Jr., Jimmie Lee Troupe and Berthold S. Troupe, all of Athens; five sisters, Pearline Robinson, Annie Odell Thornton, Shirley Ann Stringer and Agnes Diane Cominey, all of Dayton, Ohio, and Sandra Renee Campbell of Athens.

Annis G. Cahela
76, retired plant manager
MOULTON -- Funeral for Annis G. Cahela, 76, of Moulton will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Shelton officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cahela died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Pulaski, Tenn. She was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Lawrence County to H.C. Gillespie and Nina McNutt Gillespie. She was a retired plant manager for Lawrence Corp.

Survivors include her husband, Henry M. Cahela; one daughter, Theresa C. Hill of Moulton; three brothers, Tim Gillespie and Tracy Gillespie, both of Moulton, and David Gillespie of Gulf Shores; four sisters, Wilma Weatherwax, Movia Byers, Wynell Carraway and Carolyn Atchinson, all of Moulton; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Cahela, Joseph Weatherwax, Danny Gillespie, Todd Gillespie, William J. Byers and John Keith Roberts.
