Mrs. Tate died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Crosby Hospital. She was born June 1, 1903, in Picayune to Newton Mitchell and Laura Lee Mitchell. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was the widow of Loyd E. Tate and the mother of David E. Tate and Bonnie Necaise.
Survivors include one son, Loyd D. Tate of Decatur; three daughters, Betty Murphy of Rockhill, S.C., Gloria Shanahan of Poplarville, Miss., and Helen Ladner of Waveland, Miss.; two brothers, the Rev. Herman H. Mitchell and Jack W. Mitchell, both of Picayune; two sisters, Hattie Fern Johnson of Picayune and Ursula Lawrence of Somerville; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Waters died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Lawrence County to Ernest Waters and Edna Hays Waters. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957. He was a truck driver for 35 years until he retired in 1991. He was the brother of the late Hollis Waters.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Gail Waters; one son, Mark Waters of Hillsboro; two daughters, Sabrina Gail Harris of Speake and Karmen Waters Hill of Trinity; two brothers, Marlon Waters and Bobby Waters, both of Decatur; four sisters, Marjorie Waters Coffey of Moulton, Sue Waters Boyer of Hartselle, and Opal Waters Morris and Ruby Waters McIlwain, both of Decatur; six grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Boyer, Todd Boyer, Greg Waters, Gerald Morris, Ronnie Sims and Jeff Whitlow.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Cox of Athens and Tommy Cox of Gary, Ind.; one daughter, Dorothy Hannah of Athens; one brother, Clarence Kirby of Athens; one sister, Lois Peek of Harvest; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Smith, with whom she served in Methodist churches in the North Alabama District for 40 years.
