Lemma Ramsden Baird
75, retired educator
SUMITON -- Funeral for Lemma Ramsden Baird, 75, of Dora will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bell Funeral Home.Burial will be in Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Baird died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center Princeton in Birmingham. She was born March 30, 1925, in Sumiton to Harold S. "Pete" Ramsden and Nettie Ramsden. She was a lifelong resident of the Dora and Sumiton areas and a graduate of Dora High School and Birmingham-Southern College. She taught at Sumiton Elementary School for 42 years. She was active in educational and community organizations and was a member of Sumiton United Methodist Church. She was the widow of James R. Baird.

Survivors include one son, Ed Baird of Colorado; one daughter, Martha Ellis of Birmingham; two sisters, Jane R. Peck of Decatur and Ann R. Camp of Pensacola, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Sumiton United Methodist Church or the Central Alabama Alzheimer's Foundation in Birmingham.

Louise Henriette Cambouri
100, government retiree

ATHENS -- Funeral for Louise Henriette Cambouri, 100, of Madison will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Va., at a later date. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cambouri died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Valleyview Nursing Home in Madison. She was born Dec. 13, 1900, in Paris. She left France in 1920 and moved to the United States with her husband. She spent the majority of her life in Washington D.C., where she worked for the government. She retired from the U.S. patent office in 1970 and moved to Tallahassee, Fla., in 1989. She moved to Huntsville with her daughter in 1996 and had lived at Valleyview Nursing Home since.

Survivors include one daughter, Marie Louise C. Ford of Madison; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Glennell M. Helms
70, carpenter

Funeral for Glennell M. Helms, 70, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Ripley and the Rev. Benny Sivley officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Helms died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Cullman County to George Helms and Addie Mullinex Helms. He was a carpenter and a member of Decatur Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary W. Helms; one son, DeWayne Helms of Decatur; one daughter, Brenda Gail Helms of Decatur; one brother, Lloyd Helms of Decatur; three sisters, Lillian Miller of Decatur, Bernice Smith of Pensacola, Fla., and Nadine Hopper of Phoenix; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International.

The Rev. Dr. Ray Garland McCulloch
78, minister

Funeral for the Rev. Dr. Ray Garland McCulloch, 78, of Decatur was to be today at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Andrews officiating.

Burial was to be in Valhermoso Cemetery.

Mr. McCulloch died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Decatur to George E. McCulloch and Evelyn Safley McCulloch. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur and received his doctor of divinity degree from Kent State University in Ohio. He was a minister for 30 years and a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was chaplain of the Alabama State Troopers.

Survivors include his wife, Freeda McCulloch; one son, Ray Edd McCulloch of Waco, Texas; one daughter, Phyllis Spidel of Athens; one brother, Kenneth McCulloch of Decatur; two sisters, Annelle Smith of Decatur and Ruth Isbell of Birmingham; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Marty Ray Adams, Kenny McCulloch, Barry McCulloch, Daryl McCulloch, Greg Creighton and Johnny Denson.

Elders of First Christian Church were to be honorary pallbearers.

Mary E. Owens
87, homemaker

Graveside service for Mary E. Owens, 87, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Edwin Hodges officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Owens died today, Jan. 31, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Decatur to Edward Jackson Austin and Ella Ione Milam Austin. She was a homemaker and a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Billy B. Owens of Nashville; one daughter, Faye Morris of Decatur; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John Talmadge Stout
65, telephone cable splicer

Funeral for John Talmadge Stout, 65, of St. Petersburg, Fla., will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Abby Parklawn Funeral Home in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Burial will be in the adjacent cemetery.

Mr. Stout died Jan. 1, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 1, 1936, in Lauderdale County to John Thomas Stout and Myrtle Hand Stout. He was a telephone cable splicer.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny Alan Stout and Conrad Heath Stout, both of Decatur; one brother, Gerald Stout of Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Connie Stout Webb of Granite Quarry, N.C., and Patricia Stout Alldred of Archdale, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Shirley Ann Tarpley Thompson
49, Futaba Corp. employee

ATHENS -- Funeral for Shirley Ann Tarpley Thompson, 49, of Harvest will be Thursday at noon at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Rayburn officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thompson died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Aug. 22, 1951, to Dock Thomas Tarpley and Ruby Pearl Richardson Tarpley. She was a member of New Oakland Baptist Church and a production worker at Futaba Corp. in Madison. She was the mother of the late Brian Thompson.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas M. Thompson Jr.; three daughters, Tammy Darrell and Cindy Thompson, both of East Limestone, and Jennifer Thompson of Ardmore; her mother of Athens; two brothers, Marvin Tarpley of Rogersville and Dorris Tarpley of Athens; one sister, Jewel Amerson of Harvest; and two grandchildren.

Lewis Wynn
66, GTE, Par Enterprises retiree

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Lewis Wynn, 66, of Hartselle was to be today at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Phillip Hines officiating.

Burial was to be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Wynn died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 2, 1934, in Morgan County to Jesse Wynn and Ethel Moore Wynn. He was a member of Hartselle Church of Christ and a retired employee of GTE and Par Enterprises.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Burch Wynn; four daughters, Rhonda Wynn and Barbara Douglas, both of Hartselle, and Beth DeFour and Becky Wilkinson, both of Madison; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Bennich, Bobby Burch, Jackie Burch, Walt Burch, Loy Green hill and Gene Hayes.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Valley.

Harold B. 'Hal' Blankenship
74, retired university professor
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Messinger Mortuary and Chapel handled local arrangements for Harold B. "Hal" Blankenship, who died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Scottsdale Memorial North Hospital.

Mr. Blankenship was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Decatur to Burgess Blankenship and Mattie Keel Blankenship. He has several relatives living in Decatur. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a professor of education at several schools, including the University of Wyoming, Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia and Northern Arizona University, where he was director of the Elder Hostel program. He was a former resident of Louisville, Ky., and a Kentucky Colonel. He is listed in the Who's Who of American Educators and Outstanding Educators of America.

Survivors include his wife, Fairlee E. Winfield; two sons, Hal Blankenship of Charlotte, N.C., and William Carroll of Bangor, Maine; three daughters, Annette Minnich of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Constance Carroll of Boulder, Colo., and Juliet Carroll of Romulus, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

Marie Johnson Buchanan
86, retired Huntsville Board of Realtors executive secretary

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Marie Johnson Buchanan, 86, of Huntsville will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with Lane Martin officiating.

Burial will be in Florence City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Buchanan died Tuesday, Jan. 30, at a friend's home. She was born March 9, 1914, in Mt. Pleasant, Tenn. She attended Athens High School, where she was named valedictorian. She served as executive secretary of the Huntsville Board of Realtors and volunteered at Huntsville Botantical Gardens after retiring. She was an accomplished pianist.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Kay Buchanan of Huntsville; one brother, J. Frank Johnson of Escondido, Ca.; and one granddaughter. Memorials may be made to Madison County Botantical Gardens.

Rosemond 'Slim-Pap' Fletcher
70, retired truck driver

Funeral for Rosemond "Slim-Pap" Fletcher, 70, of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at Bell Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Elijah Gray III officiating.

Burial will be in Bell Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Fletcher died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Limestone County to Henry Fletcher and Janie Malone Jordan. He was a retired truck driver from Neely Coble.

Survivors include four sons, James Fletcher of Louisville, Ky., the Rev. Ronald Fletcher and Corey Fletcher, both of Decatur, and Calvin Fletcher of Athens; two daughters, Bobbie Moore of Madison and Shirley Moore of Decatur; two brothers, Larry Fletcher of Belle Mina and Cortez Fletcher of Huntsville; one sister, Recordia Birgans of Decatur; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Karlon Fletcher, Harold Pearson, Leonard Cohn, Nathan Fletcher, James Moore, Charles Cawthorne and Raymond Malone.

Alex Burl Hunter Jr.
72, retired Boeing engineer

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Alex Burl Hunter Jr., 72, of Huntsville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Berry officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 5 to 8.

Mr. Hunter died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at his home. He was born July 1, 1928, in Nashville to Alex Hunter Sr. and Ruby Margaret Abernathy Hunter.

He worked at Boeing Co. from 1965 to 1995 and retired as a senior principal design engineer. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1648, the Republican Men's Club, Huntsville Ski Club, Huntsville Museum of Art, Historic Huntsville Foundation, the Huntsville Botanical Garden, the Heritage Club and Theta XI fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1953 before returning to the University of Illinois and graduating in 1956 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He designed and built sets with many local theater groups, and, after retiring, attended a cabinetmaking class at Calhoun Community College. He was the brother of Beverly Ann Fallis.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Hunter; two daughters, Cathy Sisk of Huntsville and Carol Ann Hargrave of Bradenton, Fla.; one son, Alex Hunter III of Bradenton, Fla.; two grandsons and two step-granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to the Huntsville Museum of Art, the Huntsville-Madison County Botanical Garden or the Greater Huntsville Humane Society.
