George H. Laurence

Funeral for George H. Laurence, 88, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Laurence died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 29 in Decatur and was a deacon at Point Mallard Parkway Baptist Church. He was retired from ConAgra, where he worked 38 years as a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Hessie Johnson Laurence; two daughters, Wanda Joan Williams of Somerville and Willie Glen Shelton of Greenville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be L.L. Johnson, Christopher Baldwin, Kevin Baldwin, Fred W. Motes Jr., Michael Dunaway and Jeff Granda.

Thermon W. Praytor
78, retired machine operator

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Thermon W. Praytor, 78, of Hartselle will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Andrews officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Praytor died today, Feb. 8, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 14, 1922, in Morgan County, to Obe Young Praytor and Eura Bell Beasley Praytor. He was retired from Wolverine Tube as a machine operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in Europe.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Pitman Praytor; two sons, Randy Praytor of Hartselle and Allen Praytor of Danville; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Joe Smith, Marlin Pitman, Jason Pitman, Gary Pitman, Mitchell Blackwood, Robert Gulley and Jonathan Praytor.

Charles O. Weaver
56, retired electrician

Graveside service for Charles O. Weaver, 56, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Berry officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Weaver died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1944, in Cullman County to Charles Edward Weaver and Evelyn Lulu Dukes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired electrician.

Survivors include two daughters, Charline Weaver of Decatur and Sandra Meares of Florence; two sisters, Jane Lavoyte Hill of Hanceville and Thelma Glenn of Cullman; one brother, Jerry W. Duke of Blountsville; and his stepmother, Dorothy Nell Weaver of Decatur.

Denise Ann Brown
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Funeral for Denise Ann Brown, 29, of Clarksville, Tenn., will be Monday at 1 p.m. at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Dowdy officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. Brown died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Gateway Medical Center. She was born Nov. 15, 1971, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Mitchell L. Brown and the late Ellene D. Frosch. She was a Baptist and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter 11160.

Survivors include her father of Clarksville; her stepmother, Gwen Brown; three brothers, David Baldwin of Clarksville and Christopher Baldwin and Jeremiah Temple, both of Nashville; and her grandparents, Martha and L.B. Roper of Hartselle and Charlotte Frosch of Germany.

Annie Mae Cooper
64, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Annie Mae Cooper, 64, of Madison will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Center Church in Lawrence County with the Rev. Johnny Reid officiating.

Burial will be in Center Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at 26125 Henderson Road in Madison from 3 p.m. today until noon on Saturday.

Mrs. Cooper died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, in Wetumpka. She was born Feb. 5, 1937, in Lawrence County to Monroe Cooper and Ollie Steel Cooper. She was the widow of James Norris. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, James Doyle Norris of Piedmont; three daughters, Glenda Sue Norris and Bobbie Jean Norris, both of Piedmont, and Belinda Kay Bolan of Madison; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Maria Buchanan, Lee Burge, Kenneth J. Lang, Kenneth L. Lang and Homer Norris.

Elsie Baker Diebler
77, retired deputy sheriff

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Funeral for Elsie Baker Diebler, 77, of Fort Worth, Texas, and formerly of Hartselle, was to be today at 1:30 p.m. at Green wood Funeral Home.

Burial was to be in Green wood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Diebler died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in Texas. She was born May 6, 1923, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to James Pickens Tedford and Lillian Simpson Tedford. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1942. She was a retired Tarrant County deputy sheriff, having been one of the first female deputies to be certified in Texas. She was a member of the Texas Sheriff Association, the Mary Tyler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of 1812 and St. Luke's Methodist Church. She was the sister of the late Oscar Tedford, Judge Tedford, Jamie Nicoloff and Dorothy Wright.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin Diebler; one daughter, Janet Burks of Tyler, Texas,; one son, Calvin Baker of Forth Worth; Betty Blevins and Jean Lambert, both of Texas; one brother, Max Tedford of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 6217, Tyler, Texas, 75711.

Lonnie E. Downs
80, ConAgra retiree

Funeral for Lonnie E. Downs, 80, of Trinity will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Hill officiating.

Burial will be in Raper Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Downs died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Aug. 17, 1920, in Morgan County, to J.T. Downs and Annie Reed Downs. He retired from ConAgra with 34 years service and was a member of Stoney Acres Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran and served in the European Theater. He was the widower of Nina Downs.

Survivors include three sons, Jerome Downs Sr. of Green sboro, N.C., Thomas Downs of Las Vegas and Dennis Billings of Chattanooga; one daughter, Roger Ann Dumas of Trinity; two sisters, Dorothy White of Decatur and Louise Hogan of Hartselle; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jerome Downs Jr., Benny Dumas, Tony Dumas, Jeff Dumas, Josh Dumas and Adam Lindsey will be pallbearers.

Betty Eddy

Betty Eddy of Decatur died today, Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. Roselawn Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Robert E. Hiddleson Jr.
53, railroad switchman

RUSSELLVILLE -- Funeral for Robert E. Hiddleson Jr., 53, of Mount Hope will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Crumpton and the Rev. Eddie Weeks officiating.

Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hiddleson died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Russellville Hospital. He was born March 4, 1947, in Dearborn, Mich., to Robert Earl Hiddleson Sr. and Clarise Olsen Hiddleson. He served in the Army and was a switchman for Grand Trump Western Railroad.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Hiddleson; five sons, Terry Jones, Timmy Jones and Jeremy Sapp, all of Mount Hope, Michael Liverett of Montgomery and Alan Shane Liverett of Speake; four daughters, Shelia Price of Montgomery, Peggy Jones of Mount Hope, Lisa Hubbard of Virginia and Lisa Liverett of Decatur; two brothers, Richard Hiddleson and Ron Hiddleson, both of Michigan; two sisters, Bonnie Bonner and Kathy Hiddleson, both of Michigan; his stepmother, Isabelle Hiddleson of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews and friends will be pallbearers.

Betty Lipsey
87, retired laundry worker

Funeral for Betty Lipsey, 87, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Garner Memorial CME Church with the Rev. Hattie Loving officiating.

Burial will be in Sykes Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before services.

Mrs. Lipsey died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Oct. 10, 1913, to Jordan Robinson and Lillian Green Robinson. She retired as a laundry worker in Chattanooga after 35 years. She was a member of Garner Memorial CME Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Lucille Armstrong of Phoenix; one adopted daughter, Sarah Chairs of Decatur; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Stewards and deacons of the church will be pallbearers.

Albert Norris
84, retired Air Force

MONTGOMERY -- Funeral for Albert Norris, 84, of Montgomery will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Leak-Memory Chapel with the Rev. Gary Aldridge officiating.

Burial will be in Green wood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 5 to 7 at the chapel.

Mr. Norris died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Jackson Hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1916, in Gainestown. He retired from the Air Force after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 952 of Selma.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Audrey Patterson Norris; one son, James Norris of Apple Valley, Minn.; one daughter, Nancy Pyron of Decatur; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Doug Kenerly, Joe Sutton, Jake O'Bryant, Jim Russell, Wayne Hubbard and Wendel Graham will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Thorington Road Baptist Church Building Fund.

Aleta A. Roan
71, retired teacher's aide

Funeral for Aleta Ann McCaghren Roan, 71, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Basham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Elder officiating.

Burial will be in Basham Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Roan died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Morgan County to Otto Martin and Mellie Jones Martin. She retired as a teacher's aide for the Morgan County Board of Education. She was a member of Basham United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Marty McCaghren of Somerville and Ted McCaghren of Hartselle; one daughter, Dianne McCaghren Doss of Falkville; two sisters, Edna Lott and Elnora Ballard, both of Hartselle; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Daniel McCaghren, Brandon McCaghren, Nick Stover, Dillon Childers, James Lott and Lamar Lott.
