Jack Self
73, automobile dealer

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Jack Self, 73, of Cullman, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Dean officiating.

Burial will be in Bowman's Chapel Cemetery. A Masonic graveside service will be held. The family will receive friends today at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Self died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at his residence. He was born May 4, 1928, in Cullman.

He owned and operated Jack Self Motors in Birmingham for 40 years. He was a member of Sharon Grove United Methodist Church and was a Mason and Shriner of the Zamora Temple for 37 years. He was a World War II veteran and a member of The American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Ilene Ogletree Self; two daughters, Sheila Self House of Fultondale and Jennifer Self Fultz of Cullman ; two brothers, Billy Ray Self of Cullman and Rimel Self of Texas; two sisters, Betty Graves of Cullman and Lana Jones of Decatur; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children Burn Foundation through the Zamora Temple in Birmingham.

Guy Bradford Smith
77, retiree

MOULTON -- Funeral for Guy Bradford Smith, 77, of Moulton, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Charles Claborn and Clyde Goodlett officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born June 24, 1924, in Lawrence County to Charlie Smith and Charlcie Letson Smith. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. He worked at numerous places, including Wal-Mart and was retired.

Survivors include one daughter, Dottie Hanning of Tuson, Ariz.; three sisters, Lela Terry, Carrie Lang and Ora Dean Hill, all of Moulton; one brother, Almon Smith of Florence; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Hazel Merrell Smith
86, seamstress

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Hazel Merrell Smith, 86, of Ardmore, Tenn., will be today at 2 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home in Ardmore, Ala., with the Rev. William Suddarth and the Rev. Kevin Shearer officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation. She was born June 28, 1915, in Lincoln Co., Tenn., to Harvey and Essie Merrell. She was a member of Cash Point Baptist Church for 75 years. She was a seamstress and retired from Servin Fashions in Bethel.

She was the wife of the late Sim Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Bettye McElroy of Nashville and Anna Massey of Brentwood, Tenn.; two sons Harmon Smith of Franklin, Tenn. and Ray Smith of Decatur; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve McElroy, Kevin Smith, Dustin Jackson, Wayne Boldin, Jimmy Jenkins and Larry Mitchell.

Martha Annie Abernathy
74, homemaker
ATHENS -- Funeral for Martha Annie Abernathy, 74, of Athens will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Chester Jones and Randy Carter officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Abernathy died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at her home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Limestone County to Wiley Claunch and Nannie Claunch.

She was a homemaker and a member of Sweet Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ellis Abernathy; one son, David Abernathy of Athens; one brother, Clifton Claunch of Elkmont; one sister, Ruth Hunt of Elkmont; and two grandchildren.

Margaret Ricks Rouse Dotson
60, certified nurse's assistant

Funeral for Margaret Ricks Rouse Dotson, 60, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Martin officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dotson died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at her daughter's home in Decatur. She was born Dec. 7, 1940, in Morgan County to Eual S. Ricks and Lenora French Ricks. She was retired from South Morgan Health Care and attended Moulton Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Montie E. Ricks of Decatur; two stepsons, Charles Rouse of Lacon and James Rouse of Hartselle; one daughter, Renee Adams of Decatur; one sister, Peggy Reed of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

Ryan Allen Shaw
10, student

Funeral for Ryan Allen Shaw, 10, of Tanner will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. James Chitwood officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Ryan died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1990, in Decatur to Brent Allen Shaw and Shantina Jeffreys Shaw. He was an elementary school student.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Cody Shaw and Clay Shaw, both of Tanner; his grandparents, Norman and Jerri Jeffreys of Decatur, Wynn and Dolores Hamilton of Prospect, Tenn., and Walter and Betty Shaw of Mooresville; and his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Shaw of Decatur and Hazel Jeffreys of Town Creek.

Pallbearers will be Greg Hester, Chad Henderson, Ed Bendall and Brian LeCroix.

Memorials may be made to Somerville Road Elementary School Special Education Department.

Kace Haggenmaker
79, retired General Motors machinist
ARDMORE -- Funeral for Kace Haggenmaker, 79, of Athens, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with Brett Hawkins officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Haggenmaker died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Nashville. He was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Limestone County to Walter and Fannie Haggenmaker. He was a retired machinist for General Motors. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II and received a Purple Heart. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was the widower of Dorothy Freeman Haggenmaker and the brother of the late Acie Haggenmaker and Myrtle Barkley.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Haggenmaker; two sons, Harold Haggenmaker of Decatur and Paul Haggenmaker of Elkmont; two daughters, Barbara Fain and Donna Rodgers, both of Elkmont; three stepsons, Joseph Sanderford of Athens, and Nicky Sanderford and Shannon Sanderford, both of New Orleans; one stepdaughter, Mary Earlywyne of Picayune, Miss.; one brother, Edgar Haggenmaker of Athens; four sisters, Maggie Webster of Huntsville, Ruby Bagsby of Elkmont, and Belle Street and Evalea Jones, both of Columbia, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Ella Mae Fowler Hyatt
75, retired food coordinator

PONTIAC, Mich. -- Funeral for Ella Mae Fowler Hyatt, 75, of Pontiac, Mich., was Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Oakland Avenue Chapel of the Huntoon Funeral Home in Pontiac with the Rev. Kenneth Bracken officiating.

Burial was in Perry Mount Park Cemetery in Pontiac.

Mrs. Hyatt died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Bloomfield Hills Nursing Home. She was born May 18, 1926, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., to Artis M. Fowler and Susie Shaddix Fowler. She was retired from Cranbrook Boys School in Birmingham, Mich., where she worked in the school cafeteria. She was a member of Etha Baptist Church in Cullman. She was the mother of the late Mary Elizabeth Hyatt, the grandmother of the late Bobby Gentry and the sister of the late Alton Fowler, Olin Fowler, Leatha Smallwood and Velma Winters.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Hyatt; one daughter, Carolyn Joyce England of Pontiac; three sisters, Clois Murphree of Decatur and Nadine Mason and Janice Kemp, both of Hartselle; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

J. C. Powers
81, retired Athens Produce salesperson

ATHENS -- Funeral for J.C. Powers, 81, of Athens, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Bud White and Bobby Turner officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Powers died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born June 1, 1920, in Limestone County to George and Juddie Covington Powers. He worked as a salesperson at Athens Produce for 40 years. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Powers; one son, Jimmy Powers of Athens; one daughter, Kay Powers of Athens; one brother, Raybon Powers of Athens; one sister, Imogene Holt of Birmingham; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lance Fisk, Benjie Powers, Malcolm Gordon, Buddy Smith, Ray Garrett and Bobby Turpen.

Faye Thomas
76, homemaker

Funeral for Faye Thomas, 76, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Champion officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.

Mrs. Thomas died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Parkway Place Assisted Living in Houston, Texas. She was born May 14, 1925, in Georgia to Alton Brock and Rilla Payne Brock. She was the widow of D.E. Thomas and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Thomas of Decatur; one daughter, Judy Cox of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mildred Causey of Cullman; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Brown, Steve Smith, Jeffrey Brown, Pat Hennessy, Joe Bolan and Michael Bolan.

Harrison 'Shine' McGahee
71, barbershop custodian
Funeral for Harrison "Shine" McGahee, 71, of Moulton will be Thursday at noon at Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. H.N. Snodgrass officiating.

Burial will be at Moulton Memory Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church for one hour before the service.

Mr. McGahee died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1930, in Lawrence County to Lowe McGahee and Lutitia Stratton McGahee. He was a member of Freeman Tabernacle Church. He was a barbershop custodian.

Survivors include cousins Mercy D. Burns and Leatrice Sharpley, his caretakers, and Johnny Pearl Pride, all of Moulton, Almetia Davis of Decatur, Odean Mullins, Ozell Statton and Carrie Stratton, all of Chicago, Ollie Mae Brown of Oxford, Ohio, and Hazel Ragland of Flint, Mich.; and his uncle, Fernando Jackson of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be Oliver Owens, Patrick Sharpley, Posey Gholston, Gary Hubbard, Harold Warren and Edward Sharpley.

James Earl Morris
74, retired General Electric employee

ATHENS -- Graveside service for James Earl Morris, 74, of Athens, was to be today at 2:30 p.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Dwight Ridinger officiating.

Mr. Morris died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Limestone County to Luke Pryor Morris and Zehner Edgemon Morris. He was a retired employee of General Electric in Decatur and a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Jason Morris of Athens; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Athens-Limestone County.
