MOULTON -- Funeral for Fannie Mable Peoples Ramey, 83, of Moulton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Terry Howard officiating.

Burial will be at Landersville Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ramey died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at her home. She was born April 17, 1918, in Lawrence County to Ewing Bean and Maggie Sullivan Bean. She was a member of Owens Chapel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Ray Bean of Michigan, and Windell Peoples and Vernon Gene Peoples, both of Moulton; one stepson, Michael Ramey of Moulton; two daughters, Linda Faye Flaherty of Danville and Shirley Whitfield of Moulton; one stepdaughter, Juanita Peoples of Moulton; one brother, Sammy Lee Bean of Mount Hope; four sisters, Bernice Cagle and Melby Lipscomb, both of Michigan, Marie Dutton of Moulton and Christine Waldrop of Danville.

Pallbearers will be Jonathon Terry, Ray Duncan, Tim Curry, Billy Nix, Johnny Nix, Sammy Bean Jr., and Sammy Bean III.

Evelyn Reese
82, homemaker

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Evelyn Reese, 82, of Cullman will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Hermetz officiating.

Burial will be in Cullman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Reese died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Cullman Health Care. She was born Jan. 12, 1919, in Ripley, Miss., to Scott Wesley Hudson and Emma Hankey Hudson. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons, James Raphael Reese of LaGrange, Ill., Scott Randall Reese of Hanceville and Robert Reid Reese of Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, Billy Vaughn Hudson and Carter Hudson, both of Birmingham; two sisters, Artie Mae Fitzgerald of Falkville and Dalphine Ellington of Birmingham; and three grandchildren.

Willie Etta Copeland Whitaker
88, homemaker

HANCEVILLE -- Funeral for Willie Etta Copeland Whitaker, 88, of Hanceville, was to be today at 11 a.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Nuss and the Rev. Bobby Crawford officiating.

Burial was to be in Center Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitaker died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Cullman Medical Center. She was born May 27, 1913, in Cullman County to William Lee and Sara Etta Whatley Copeland. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin W. Whitaker of Hartselle and Byron "Bob" Whitaker of Center Hill; one daughter, Paula Jane Gorham of Decatur; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Abner Jasper Hall Jr.
75, retired auditor
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Abner Jasper Hall Jr., 75, of Hartselle will be Friday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Hartselle with the Rev. W.G. Henry, the Rev. W.L. Cole and the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens with Peck Funeral Home directing. There will be a military graveside service. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Hall died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Monroe County, Ark., to Abner Jasper Hall Sr. and Mabel Annette Pierce Hall. He was a member and the former financial secretary of First United Methodist Church in Hartselle, where he was also a member of the Wesleyan Sunday school class. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He was a Disabled American Veteran. He was a member of the Hartselle Lions Club. He retired as an auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Ruth Hall; two sons, Charles Russell Hall of Cincinnati and Richard Alan Hall of Decatur; one daughter, Nancy Lee Payne of Hartselle; one brother, Ralph E. Hall of Key West, Fla.; one sister, Mabel Graham of Pasadena, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Beuker, Steve Davis, Alan Hall, James Henderson, Jason Hooker, James Jackson and Steve Jay Livingston.

The men of Weselyan Sunday school class will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the First United Methodist Church of Hartselle building fund.

Etha Mae Champion Nappier
93, homemaker

ARAB -- Funeral for Etha Mae Champion Nappier, 93, of Union Hill was to be today at 3 p.m. at New Canaan Baptist Church in Union Hill with the Rev. Eldridge Criscoe and the Rev. Ben Styles officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Gober Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Nappier died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Windsor House Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 21, 1907, in Marion County to W. Herbert Champion and Irene Champion. She lived in Union Hill as an adult. She was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church and the widow of William Nappier. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Wallace T. Nappier and William Nappier, both of Union Hill; two brothers, Millard Champion and Ray Champion, both of Somerville; one sister, Vivian Smith of Somerville; five grandchildren; eight great-grand-children; two great-great-grand-children; and two step-great-grand-children.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Allen, Adam Lowe, Dale Nappier, Donald Champion, Jackie Owens and Lynn Goree.

Luther Standridge
93, retired barber

Funeral for Luther Standridge, 93, of Decatur will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Standridge officiating.

Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Standridge died today, Aug. 16, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1907, in Lawrence County to George A. Standridge and Mary Davis Standridge. A barber for 73 years, he retired from Clemons Barber Shop, later known as the Basement Barber Shop, in 1998. He was a member of Caddo Congregational Christian Church. He was the husband of the late Audra Gibson and the father of the late Neal Standridge.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Randy Standridge of Trinity, Jerry Standridge of Leighton, Susan Sloan of Madison and Terri Slizewski of Decatur; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia Verdon

MONROE, Ohio -- Funeral for Virginia Verdon, 88, of Monroe was to be today at 1 p.m. at Earle Little Funeral Home with the Rev. John B. Edson officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Verdon died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. She was born Sept. 3, 1912, in Flint to Robert Buford and Minnie Buford. She moved from Alabama to Monroe in the 1930s. She was the widow of Roy W. Verdon and a homemaker.

Survivors include two stepsons, Kenneth Verdon of LaSalle, Ohio, and William Verdon of New Orleans; three brothers, Robert Buford of Flint, Fred Buford of Gadsden, and John Buford of Luna Pier, Ohio; and five step-grandchildren.

Opal Waters Morris
74, homemaker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Opal Waters Morris, 74, of Decatur, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Greg Standridge and Mitch Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Morris died Wednesday, Aug. 15, at her home. She was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Lawrence County to Ernest and Edna Waters. She was a homemaker and a member of Caddo Congregational Church. She was the widow of Luther Morris and the sister of Hollis Waters and Kenneth Waters.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Ray Morris of Birmingham and Gerald Dean Morris of Decatur; two daughters, Betty Morris Terry of Decatur and Charlotte Morris Landham of Killen; two brothers, E. Marlon Waters and Bobby Joe Waters, both of Decatur; three sisters, Sue Waters Boyer of Hartselle, Margie Waters Coffey of Moulton and Ruby Waters McIlwain of Decatur; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rodney D. Terry, Craig Terry, Lisa Tucker, Mike Tucker, Jason Brian Morris, Heather Leann Morris and Brandon Todd.

Great-grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.

Willard R. Posey
62, operating engineer

FLORENCE -- Funeral for Willard R. Posey, 62, of Florence was Monday at Spry Funeral Home in Florence with the Rev. Phillip Skipworth officiating.

Burial was in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Posey died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, in Florence. His parents were the late Clyde Posey and Elsie Mae Posey. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 320 and Highland Baptist Church of Florence. He was retired from Reynolds Metals Co. He had relatives in the Morgan County area.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Faye Posey; two daughters, LaShonda Schichtle and LaDonya Posey, both of Florence; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were Charles Matthews, Alan Matthews, Hillard Matthews, Michael Matthews, Gene Henson, and Jerry Sherrell.

Mr. Posey's physicians were honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Luther Standridge
93, retired barber

Burial will be in a local cemetery with G.C. Williams Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Blackburn died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. She was born Feb. 26, 1908, in Madison County. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, James Blackburn Jr. of Athens, who operates Jim's Shoe Shop on Sixth Avenue in Decatur; and four daughters, Evelyn Jones, Odessa Jones, Teresa Pride and Marie Ware, all of Louisville.

Margaret Marie Bowling
67, homemaker

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Margaret Marie Bowling, 67, of Courtland will be Monday at 1 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Courtland Cemetery with Thompson & Son Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Bowling died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born April 21, 1934, in Courtland to Joseph and Amanda Billings. She was a homemaker and a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Courtland, where she was a member of the Mother Board. She was the sister of the late Edna Tuggle.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Willie Bowling; two daughters, Jacqueline Houser and Marcella Jones, both of Courtland; three brothers, Percy Billings of Titusville, Fla., George Ashford of Cleveland and Clinton Davenport of Decatur; four sisters, Henri Beck and Daisy Marble, both of Chattanooga, and Lequata Billings and Bernice Harris, both of Courtland; and three grandchildren.
