Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Tarpley died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center-Princeton in Birmingham. She was born Nov. 30, 1922, in Trinity to Anderson P. Terry and Annie Fuller Terry. She was supervisor of the Bookkeeping Department at Morgan County National Bank, and she was a member of Grant Street Church of Christ for more than 60 years. She was the widow of William J. Tarpley Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Jane Tarpley Hester of Birmingham; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Frank Tarpley, Andy Harrison, Greg Johnston, Stuart Suggs, Tim Dills and Pat Fite.
Honorary pallbearers will be elders of Grant Street Church of Christ and elders of Morris Church of Christ.

Mrs. Brackin died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at her home. She was born April 29, 1915, in Lawrence County to Claude LeMay and Edna Penick LeMay. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of Richard Brackin, the mother of the late William "Billy" Brackin and Richard Don Brackin and the grandmother of the late Timothy Rose and the late Grady Michael Rose.
Survivors include one daughter, Margie Jeane Rose of Town Creek; two brothers, J.T. LeMay of Moulton and Charles LeMay of Green briar, Ark.; two sisters, Elizabeth Campbell and Blanche LeMay, both of Town Creek; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brock died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born June 20, 1920, in Hayden to Stephen Emory Caudill and Dora Armstrong Caudill. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, and she worked for 24 years as an insurance clerk for doctors at Parkway Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Pat Brock; one son, Stephen R. Allen of Decatur; one daughter, Patsy Peebles of Decatur; three stepsons, John Brock of Weirton, W. Va., Barry Brock of Decatur and Phil Brock of Portland, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Shoaf of Sun River, Ore.; two brothers, Jimmy Caudill of San Antonio and Stephen Emory "Red" Caudill of Decatur; two sisters, Lucille Dumas of Florence and Mary Mitchell of Hartselle; four grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John Kelly 'J.K.' Howard

Funeral for John Kelly "J.K." Howard, 88, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Wright officiating.
A graveside service will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 8 at Ridout's-Brown Service Funeral Home.
Mr. Howard died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at DCH Hospital in Tuscaloosa. He was born June 18, 1913, in Coosa County and grew up in Goodwater. He graduated from Auburn University in 1937 with a degree in agricultural science. He retired after 37 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the state of Alabama. He was a World War II veteran serving from 1942-45 in the 146th Engineer Combat Battalion as company commander, and survived being in the initial wave on Omaha Beach during D-Day with subsequent campaigns in France and Germany. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star during his military service, and was honorably discharged as a U.S. Army captain. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, and spent his retirement doing woodworking and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Eugenia "Jean" Howard of Birmingham; one son, Eddie Howard of Birmingham; one daughter, Mary Ann Griffith of Grand Junction, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Scott died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at her home. She was born Sept. 21, 1947, in Alabama to Clyde Coker and Lena Kathryn Pritchett Coker. She worked as an eye technician at Cullman Eye Care Center. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Lloyd Scott; two sons, Tim Scott and Todd Scott, both of Cullman; her mother of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

James Adam Duncan
79, theater equipment dealer
James Adam "Jim" Duncan, known for managing Decatur movie theaters for years, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in Savannah, Ga., after suffering a brain aneurysm during a business trip to Vidalia, Ga. He was 79.
Funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Williams and the Rev. John Clotfelter officiating. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home.
During the 1960s and 1970s, most moviegoers in the area knew Duncan as manager of Decatur's four theatres: Bowline Drive-In Theatre, Gateway Rocking Chair Theatre, Princess Theatre and Thunderbird Drive-In Theatre.
Mr. Duncan was born Sept. 22, 1921, to John Dallas Duncan and Mary Burleson Duncan in Spruce Pine, N.C. He showed his first movie at about the age of 12. A few years after graduating from Mitchell County High School, he managed or owned many theaters in the western North Carolina-eastern Tennessee region. He worked for Crescent Amusement Co., the same company that owned the Princess Theatre in Decatur.
Duncan served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater as a company clerk. After Germany surrendered, the Army gave him a jeep, a projector and a generator, and sent him to show movies to soldiers in France and Germany.
He came to Decatur in 1960 to manage the Bowline Drive-In for United Amusement Co., which also owned theaters in Florence, Albertville, Guntersville and Boaz. Duncan left for a short time in 1971 to open and operate a Shoney's Restaurant in Cleveland, Tenn., but returned in 1973 to his old job. In 1978, he opened Cinema Equipment and Concession Supply Inc. in downtown Decatur and serviced theaters from New York to Honduras, as well as local ball leagues.
He was president of the Decatur Kiwanis Club during its 50th anniversary, and served many years on the boards of the Salvation Army and Central United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday school and was treasurer of Good Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Ollis Duncan; a son, James Robert Duncan of Decatur; a daughter, Cathy Duncan Wahl of Decatur; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Alan Duncan, Michael Robert Wahl Jr., Shane Williams, Shannon Williams, Willie Raybon, Leonard Raybon and Ralph Freehauf.
Good Fellowship Sunday School Class members will be honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include one daughter, Ellon Bradford of Town Creek; four sisters, Irene Mardis and Paulene Norwood, both of Town Creek, Lois Thrasher of Killen and Dean Thigpen of Colbert Heights; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
