C. Clinton 'Clint' Roberson

Graveside service for C. Clinton "Clint" Roberson, 84, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Buddy Champion and the Rev. W.K. Stephenson officiating.

The family will receive friends at Roselawn Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 until the time of the service.

Mr. Roberson died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Lawrence County to Virgil Roberson and Inez McRight Roberson. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was retired from ConAgra and was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Roberson; two sons, Mike Roberson of Decatur and Larry Roberson of Crossville; one brother, Frank Roberson of Columbus, Ga.; three sisters, Laura Summers and Clara Harris, both of Decatur and Lila Nickens of Hartselle; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be members of the Adult 6 Department Men's Sunday School class.

Ruby Lee Stewart

TRINITY -- Funeral for Ruby Lee Stewart, 75, of Hillsboro will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitch Smith and the Rev. Wendell Bennett officiating.

Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stewart died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born April 7, 1926, in Lawrence County to M.G. Welborn and Trannie Morgan Welborn. She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Mrs. Stewart was the widow of James Stewart.

Survivors include three sons, Winford Stewart and Benny Stewart, both of Hillsboro and Bobby Stewart of Danville; two daughters, Mary Ann Stewart of Decatur and Patty Coan of Prospect, Tenn.; one sister, Jean Hall of Danville; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Waymon Taylor

Funeral for Waymon Taylor, 66, of Danville will be Saturday at noon at Oakville Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Yarbrough officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. His body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Taylor died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at South Morgan Health Care Center. He was born April 23, 1935, in Lawrence County to James Andrew Taylor and Emma Louise Williams Taylor. He was retired after 43 years from the Lawrence County Board of Education as a mechanic and a bus driver.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the Oakville Missionary Baptist church, where he was chairman of the deacon board and Sunday School superintendent. He was church custodian and keeper of the Lindsey Cemetery. He also was a member of Oakville Masonic Lodge No. 69, where he was past Worshipful Master. He was a past worthy patron of the Orba Chapter 148 Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Taylor was Oakville's first black poll watcher.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Taylor; four daughters, Stella Irving of Athens, Betty Griffin of Hartselle, Cheri McCaskey of Hillsboro and Kenyatta Burton of Decatur; eight brothers, Hosey Taylor, Rayford Taylor and Wymond Taylor, all of Oakville, Johnny Taylor of Moulton, Paul Taylor, Cardell Taylor and Fred Taylor, all of Decatur and Leroy Taylor of Cleveland, Ohio; nine sisters, Josephine Brackin and Flora Mae Griffin both of Oakville, Hazel Pointer of Moulton, Joyce Bolden and Emma Sue Jackson, both of Hillsboro, Shirley Griffin of Danville, Gladys Williams and Lola Mosley, both of Decatur and Beverly Brackin of Hartselle; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Members of the Oakville Masonic Lodge No. 69 will be pallbearers.

Ervin B.G. 'Curley' Whitaker Jr.

PULASKI, Tenn. -- A memorial service for Ervin B.G. "Curley" Whitaker Jr., 74 of Columbia, Tenn. will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Whitaker died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia. He was born March 3, 1927, in Huntsville to Ervin B.G. Whitaker Sr. and Tommie Alma Mefford Whitaker. He was the father of the late Sandra Dianne Whitaker Niles. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an electrician and retired from NASA.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Beddingfield Whitaker of Good Spring, Tenn.; three daughters, Susan Whitaker Johnston of Somerville, Sharon Whitaker Keebler of Madison and Sarah Ann Whitaker Caudle of Eva; one brother, Jackson D. Whitaker of Virginia; five sisters, Catherine Whitaker of Cleveland, Ohio, Labertha Fahsholtz of Huntsville, Barbara Hindmarsh of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jeanene Doeffinger of Hawaii and Patricia Pittman of Toney; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Alberta Jean Arch
Memorial service for Alberta Jean Arch, 68, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Champion officiating.

Mrs. Arch died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio. She was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Duryea, Pa., to Frank Semanski and Catherine Schultz Semanski. She retired as an elementary school teacher.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony Arch of San Jose, Calif., and Daniel Arch of Wadsworth, Ohio; and one brother, Frank Semanski Jr. of Taylor, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

Amelia Bradford

Funeral for Amelia Bradford, 75, of Trinity, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Neal Culberson officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bradford died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Lawrence County, to Claude Jackson Lamon and Velma Sheats Lamon. She was retired as a teacher from Priceville and West Morgan elementary schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Joy Class and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Bradford was the sister of the late Robert Dennis "Dee" Lamon, Minor Earl Lamon, Albert Frank Lamon and Guy Sheats Lamon.

Survivors include her husband, Rice Keith Bradford; two sons, Dennis Keith "Bobby" Bradford and William Charles "Bill" Bradford, both of Trinity; one daughter, Anita Diane Bradford of Muscle Shoals; two brothers, Fred Pellom Lamon of Rogersville and James "Doc" Lamon of Huntsville; two sisters, Claudine "Crick" Bradley of Fairhope and Verna White of Moulton; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Deverl Lamon, Shane White, Phillip Bradley, G.S. Parker, Rodney Hale and Edward Leonard.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Eugene Clifton Collins

Funeral for Eugene Clifton Collins, 87, of Atlanta will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with William J. Long officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chapel.

Mr. Collins died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Portsbridge Hospice in Atlanta. He was born July 16, 1914, in Hillsboro. He was a member of North Atlanta Church of Christ and a former member of New Antioch Church of Christ in Hillsboro.

Survivors include one son, Wayne Collins of Atlanta; one brother, George Collins of Trinity; two sisters, Lucille Slaten Terry and Bea Cross, both of Leighton; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny Darnell, Randy Moultrie, Greg McDaniel, Wayne Moran, Alan Graham and Bailey Darnell.

Gene Edward Ralph

ARAB -- Funeral for Gene Edward Ralph, 30, of New Hope, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hebron Church of Christ with Brad Howard officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Arab-Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Ralph died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, in an automobile accident in the Morgan County community of Apple Grove. He was born Aug. 18, 1971, in Fort Rucker, to Donald Ralph and Shirley Carr Ralph, and was the owner of Fairview Grocery in Fairview.

Survivors include his wife of five years, Becky Ralph; two stepdaughters, Maegan Kirby and Brooke Kirby, both of New Hope; his parents of Joppa; and one sister, Gena Ralph of Joppa.

Viva Lee Thompson

ATHENS -- Funeral for Viva Lee Thompson, 72, of Athens, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Jessie Littrell officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thompson died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Limestone County to Delmer and Effie Moore. She was a homemaker and a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest G. Thompson; two sons, Buck Thompson and Larry Thompson, both of Athens; two daughters, Glenda Clem and Donna Hardaway, both of Athens; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Fisher, Bob Bullington, Donald Hathcoat, Jeff Thompson, Kenny Thompson and Billy Reed Christopher.

Memorials may be made to dementia and Alzheimer's foundations.

Gregory Alan Bates
ATHENS -- Funeral for Gregory Alan Bates, 38, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Ron Owens officiating.

Burial will be in Higgins Cemetery.

Mr. Bates died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Jan. 12, 1963, in Calhoun County to Hershel Bates and Reba Bates. He was a carpenter and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his mother of Athens; one brother, Kerry Bates of Dallas, Texas; and one sister, Lana Atchley of Columbus, Ga.

Ernest Cobb

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ernest Cobb, 72, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bell Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Bell Springs Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cobb died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 18, 1929, in Morgan County to Omar L. Cobb and Mae Estella Sullins Cobb. He attended Bell Springs Baptist Church and was a Korean War veteran. He was a truck driver for Gordon Transport and a member of the Teamsters union for 28 years.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Martha Rachel Powell Cobb; his mother of Hartselle; one son, Glenn Ernest Cobb of Vinemont; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Cobb McGhee of Hartselle; and one granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Mike Campbell, Mark Powell, Dennis Shadix, Alton Sullins, Leroy Sullins and Spencer Sullins.

Robert 'Bob' Compton

Robert "Bob" Compton, 69, of Del Rio, Texas, formerly of Morgan County, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at his home.

Burial will be in Compton Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 15, 2001, in Morgan County to Frederic Holland Compton and Maude Pearle Whittle Compton. He was an electronic engineer with CAE-Link. He was a United States Air Force veteran who served in Germany from 1950 through 1954. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion.

He was the widower of Kazuko Eshita Compton, father of the late Phillip Compton and brother of the late Donald Euclid Compton, Mary Evilo Compton Crandall and Margaret Ann Compton McPeters.

Survivors include one son, Robert W. Compton of Sidney, N.Y.; one daughter, Rani Compton Daley of Los Angeles; one brother, Holland L. Compton of Hartselle; two sisters, Freda Compton Adams of Imperial Beach, Calif., and Telete Compton Swander of Hartselle; and four grandchildren.

Fred M. Norris

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Fred M. Norris, 78, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Nuss officiating.

Burial will be in Herring Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Norris died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Hillside Hospital in Pulaski, Tenn. He was born May 19, 1923, in Georgia to Walter Lee Norris and Ruth Scarbrough Norris. He was a farmer and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Korean War veteran who served in Panama.

Survivors include one daughter, Cornelia Pugh of Elkmont; one sister, Henrietta Watson of Cochran, Ga.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ray Miller, Richie McCafferty, Jerry Nuss, Mike Eaton, Jesse Lovell and Joel Pugh.

Dora Corene Spry

ATHENS -- Funeral for Dora Corene Spry, 88, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Grady Reyer and the Rev. Brent Hawkins officiating.

Burial will be in Sandlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Spry died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Athens Limestone Hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1913, in Limestone County to Otto Knowles and Maggie Knowles. She was the widow of Robert E. Spry. She attended Carey Baptist Church and retired as a lunchroom cook from Hays Mill Elementary School.

Survivors include one son, Freddy Mack Spry of Athens; and two grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Izora White

MOULTON -- Funeral for Izora White, 95, of Moulton will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Calhoun officiating.

Burial will be in Owens Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. White died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at her home. She was born April 7, 1906, in Lawrence County to Will Hodge and Emar Hodge. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, J.T. White of Town Creek, Buddy White of Illinois and Junior Culver of Moulton; one daughter, Betty Brewer of Moulton; one sister, Dolly Flannagin of Decatur; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dale Brewer, Jamie Brewer, Randall White, Randy White, Tommy White, Dale Culver and Johnny Aaron.
