Mrs. Champion died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 20, 1928, in Morgan County to Frank Oden and Mattie Taylor Oden. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Holy Church of Christ. She was the mother of the late Roger Sparks.
Survivors include her husband, James Champion; two sons, Larry Wayne Sparks of Cullman and James Owne Abner of Georgia; one daughter, Judy Gail Tanksley of Falkville; two stepsons, Roger Dale Champion of Somerville and Joe Lynn Champion of Cullman; three stepdaughters, Patricia Hands and Betty Russell, both of Somerville, and Joyce Schaffer of Arab; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Champion, David Champion, Jasper Champion, Jeff Champoin, W.C. Champion and Jerry Smith.
Pelham Ray Horton
MOULTON -- Funeral for Pelham Ray Horton, 67, of Town Creek was to be today at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Calvin Jones and Harold Letson officiating.
Burial was to be in Ferguson Cemetery.
Mr. Horton died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 3, 1934, in Town Creek, to Horace Horton and Irene Horton. He was a textile worker and a member of Fairhaven Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Horton; two sons, Emile Horton and Aaron Horton, both of Moulton; one daughter, Cecelia Bradford of Town Creek; his stepmother, Amy Horton of Moulton; three brothers, Vernon Horton of Moulton, Junior Horton of Town Creek and Jerry Horton of Lexington; six sisters, Elouise Kiser, Jean Randolph and Elizabeth Sutton, all of Town Creek, Linda Fortner and Melissa Mayfield, both of Russellville, and Kay Alexander of Phil Campbell; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Steve Kiser, Josh Horton, Phil Sutton Michael Smith, Lamar Smith, Jerry Smith, Michial Horton and Johnny Horton.
Julia Jane Walker Milburn
NASHVILLE -- Memorial service for Julia Jane Walker Milburn, 51, of Nashville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at West End United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Laney officiating.
Mrs. Wilburn died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at her home. She was born Aug. 23, 1950, in Birmingham to Dr. William A. Walker and Nelda Hollis Walker. She graduated from Decatur High School and attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing at Vanderbilt University. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and Sigma Theta Tau honorary fraternity. She was a member of West End United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William Franklin Milburn; one son, Aaron Walker Davis of Nashville; two daughters, Emily Louise Davis of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Ellen Elizabeth Davis of Nashville; one stepson, William Thomas Milburn of Nashville; one stepdaughter, Amy Marie Milburn of Franklin, Tenn.; two brothers, William A. Walker Jr. of La Mesa, N.M., and Dr. John Hollis Walker of Huntsville; one sister, Jean Walker Tucker of Mobile; her parents of Decatur; and her grandmother, Mrs. Autie F. Walker of Decatur.

Ruby Alline Thornton
ATHENS -- Funeral for Ruby Alline Thornton, 83, of Athens will be Friday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Zeke Hazelden officiating.
Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thornton died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born July 7, 1918, in Limestone County to William Warren Thornton and Mary Orlean Holland Thornton. She was a member of Tanner First United Methodist Church and Page Circle. She was a lifelong resident of Limestone County, who retired after working in the cafeteria at Athens State University. She was the mother of the late Brenda Thornton, the sister of the late Edward Thornton, James Thornton, Bobby Thornton and Faye Penley. She had been married to the late Cecil R. Thornton.
Survivors include two daughters, Cecilia Jackson of Athens and Mary Lynn Usery of Elkmont; one sister, Naomi Davis of Athens; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Usery, Joe Jackson, Kip Jackson, Michael Wilbanks, Nate Mitchell and Mark Davis.
John Wayne Warren
HARTSELLE -- Memorial service for John Wayne Warren, 58, of Hartselle will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Hill officiating.The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Warren died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at his home. He was born Jan. 23, 1943, in Alabama to John Burton Warren and Margie Bell Souder Warren. He worked as a finger jointer at Sonoco Baker Industries. He attended the Church of Christ and was a Vietnam War veteran, having served six years in the U.S. Air Force. He was the brother of the late Nancy Woodruff.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Warren; two sons, John Evan Warren and Robert Burton Warren, both of Hartselle; one sister, Kathy Lindsey of Hartselle; and five grandchildren.
Nellie Calhoun
MOULTON -- Funeral for Nellie Calhoun, 92, of Moulton will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Calhoun officiating.

Mrs. Calhoun died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Jan. 30, 1909, in Lawrence County to Willis Borden and Rosie Loutishie Roberts Borden. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Roland Calhoun of Courtland and Arlin Calhoun of Moulton; three daughters, Laura Mae Dishong, Fay Bray and Susie Bray, all of Moulton; two sisters, Syble Borden of Bear Creek and Murlene Borden of Moulton; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 41 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Drinkard died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at her home. She was born Feb. 28, 1939, in Iowa to Hale P. Davis and Clarice M. Hyatt Davis. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, Marion T. Drinkard; one son, Thomas Alvin Drinkard of Eva; two daughters, Georgene Thornton of Vinemont and Bette Woodall of Eva; two brothers, Edward Davis of Sioux City, Iowa, and George Davis of Birmingham; one sister, Bette McClarty of Whitting, Iowa; and nine grandchildren.

Mrs. Evans died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 7, 1911, in Morgan County to Robert Morrow and Elzora Gurley Morrow. She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Arvin Evans of Decatur; one daughter, Dorothy Sharp of Somerville; one sister, Mable Moore of Hartselle; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hargrove died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Aug. 24, 1950, in Lawrence County, to James Ricketts and Vera Dotson Ricketts. She was manager of a grocery store and was past youth director at Old Moulton Road Holy Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Raleigh Lucas Hargrove; two sons, James New and Shane Hargrove, both of Decatur; two daughters, Linda Renea Hill of Hartselle and Christy Hargrove of Courtland; her parents, of Decatur; three brothers, Danny Ricketts of Hartselle, Dean Ricketts of Decatur and Joe Ricketts of Moulton; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Palmer died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at his home. He was born Aug. 6, 1948, in Morgan County to Reese Palmer and Estelle Wray Palmer. He was a self-employed mechanic.
Survivors include one son, Herbert Palmer of Alexandria, Va.; one daughter, Kimberly Collins of Raleigh, N.C.; his mother of Hartselle; three brothers, Bobby Palmer and Pervis Palmer, both of Hartselle, and Earl Palmer of Decatur; one sister, Wanda Palmer Daniel of Trinity; and one grandson.

T.J. 'Timmy' Riley Jr.
CADDO -- Memorial service for T. J. "Timmy" Riley Jr., 21, of Caddo, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Riley died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, in Clinton. He was born July 15, 1980, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Timothy A. Riley Sr. and Faith "Tootie" Riley. He was an assistant brickmason and worked for L & L Pools.
Survivors include his father of Clinton; his mother of Terre Haute; his sister, Kryst'l Riley-Bayne of Trinity; his grandfather, Herman "Bud" Riley of Clinton; and his grandmothers, Camilla Jean Smith of Decatur and Marilyn Sirigusa of Clinton.
William Garland Stewart
SCOTTSBORO -- Funeral for William Garland Stewart, 75, of Scottsboro was Wednesday at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Johnny Mack Young and Charles Cobb officiating.
Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Stewart died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at his home. He was born March 4, 1926, in Woodville to Claude Stewart and Frances Cecil Winkles Stewart.
He was a member of Broad Street Church of Christ and retired as an environmental officer with the Jackson County Health Department. He was a member of the 1944 state community baseball championship team and the 1944 Jackson County High School basketball championship team. He worked with local and state youth sports for more than 50 years, serving as state and district director of Dixie Boys baseball and assistant state director of Dixie Majors baseball. He was baseball, basketball and volleyball supervisor for the Scottsboro Recreation Department for 15 years. He was the widower of Louise Rudder Stewart to whom he was married 46 years.
Survivors include two sons, William G. "Mickey" Stewart of Huntsville and James Gary Stewart of Scottsboro; one daughter, Linda Wallace of Decatur; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

MOULTON -- Funeral for Laura Elizabeth Streater, 88, of Town Creek will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Town Creek with the Rev. Bill Hart officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
Mrs. Streater died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Helen Keller Hospital. She was born June 16, 1913, in Lawrence County to Otheo Scruggs and Susie Scruggs. She was the widow of Chad Streater. She was city clerk in Town Creek for 29 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Gwendolyn Jones of Town Creek; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Doug Russell, Bubba Godsey, Guy Wesley King, Dan Simmons, King Streater and K.E. Streater.
