Mary Katherine Woodall Evans

Funeral for Mary Katherine Woodall Evans, 84, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Canterbury and the Rev. John Clotfelter officiating, and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Evans died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at her home. She was born July 11, 1917, in Morgan County to Ruel Calvin Woodall and Mary Sue Miller Woodall. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Goodfellowship Class and Seekers Bible Club. She was married 58 years to the late Samuel James Evans.

Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Evans McCord of Decatur and Beverly Evans Moss of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Cheney Evans Moss, Jason Edward Moss, Wally Evans, Stan Evans, Donald Aday and James Webster. Honorary pallbearers will include the Goodfellowship Class of Central United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church Building Fund or Hospice of the Valley.

Ronald Wayne Franks

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Ronald Wayne Franks, 46, of Plaquemine, La., and formerly of Decatur, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Slack officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 to 9 at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Franks died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Plaquemine Caring Center. He was born Dec. 29, 1955, in Morgan County to Willis Alfred Franks and Flo Fairbanks. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his mother of Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, Roy Franks of Decatur and Bobby Franks of Hartselle; and two sisters, Virginia Ledbetter of Decatur and Mary Jo Winter of Cherry Log, Ga.

Bessie J. Jennings

Bessie J. Jennings, 80, of Decatur and formerly of Wintersville, Ohio, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Cedar Springs Retirement Home.

She was born July 26, 1921, in Pine Grove, W.Va., to James F. Howell and Millie A. Winland Howell Hickman. She was the widow of Randall E. Jennings.

She was a member since 1945 of the United Brethren In Christ church in Steubenville, Ohio. Mrs. Jennings moved to Decatur three years ago. She was the sister of the late James G. Howell, Hazel White, Rosemary Demattio and Hilda Evans, and stepdaughter of the late Charles Hickman.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Walter of Somerville; one brother, Dale E. Hickman of Ohio; three granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 216 Johnson St. S.E., Decatur, AL 35601 or the Alzheimer's Association.

Mary Sue Walker

Funeral for Mary Sue Walker, 63, of Moulton will be Wednesday at noon at Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church in Moulton with the Rev. H.N. Snodgrass officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the service, and the family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.

Miss Walker died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at her home in Moulton. She was born May 10, 1938, in Lawrence County to Earl Walker and Drucilla McGahee Walker.

Miss Walker was a special education teacher's aide for 12 years in the Lawrence County school system at Moulton Elementary School. She was a member of Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and served on the Kitchen Committee.

Survivors include one son, Dale Walker of Moulton; two daughters, Minita Kay Walker of Moulton and Sheila Walker of Madison; and two brothers, Earnest "Fats" Walker of Moulton and Alexander Walker of Aliquippa, Penn.

Pallbearers will be Randell Stevenson, Lee Taylor, Kenneth Brackins, Posey Gholston, Joe Jackson and Calvin Lee.

Lois Montgomery Williams

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Lois Montgomery Williams, 77, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Frankie Sheats officiating.

Burial will be in Powell's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Mayfield Nursing Home. She was born March 24, 1924, in Morgan County to Will Montgomery and Roberta Montgomery. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Ray Williams of Falkville and Milford Steven Williams of Hartselle; three daughters, Joyce Ann Reed of Decatur, Wilma Thomas of Danville and Helen Roberts of Somerville; three sisters, Annie Smith of Tuscumbia, Glenda Miller of Mississippi and Linda Ferguson of Hartselle; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny Williams, Tim Fall, Rathel Lindley, Kenny Foster , James Ballinger and Roger Law.

Myrtle S. Fisher
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Myrtle S. Fisher, 91, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Culotta officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fisher died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born July 21, 1910, in Louisiana to Joseph Sexton and Myrtle Ruby Sedqwick Sexton. She was retired from the Times Picayune newspaper in New Orleans and was the mother of the late Austin Provost Jr.

Survivors include one daughter, Myrtle Ann Presley of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Terry Johnson, John Pellerin, Aaron Provost, Ashton Provost, Austin Provost III and Darryl Terry.

Donnie Joe Goodwin

TRINITY -- Funeral for Donnie Joe Goodwin, 49, of Hillsboro will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Harold Hall and Carroll Hall officiating.

Burial will be in Chalybeate Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Goodwin died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at his home. He was born Dec. 3, 1952, in Franklin County, to Joseph Hubert Goodwin and Mary Elizabeth Chaney Goodwin. He was self-employed as an auto mechanic and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Goodwin was the brother of the late Patricia Ann Henderson.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Goodwin; two sons, Jamie DeWayne Goodwin and Jason Goodwin, both of Hillsboro; his mother, of Hillsboro; one brother, Bobby Joe Goodwin of Athens; three sisters, Anita Vaughn Southard of Athens, Shelia Mae Windham of Town Creek and Faye Elizabeth Hamilton of Hillsboro.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Reed, Jason Goodwin, Jamie Goodwin, Lucas Hamilton, Brian Reed, Bradley Reed, James Reed and Jerry Hamilton.

Bessie J. Jennings

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio -- Funeral for Bessie J. Jennings, 80, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Fort Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville. The family was to receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jennings died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, in Decatur. She was born, July 26, 1921, in Pine Grove, W.Va., to James F. Howell and Millie A. Winland Howell Hickman. She was a member of United Brethren in Christ Church in Steubenville, Ohio, since 1945. She moved to Decatur three years ago.

Clelon D. 'CD' Johnson

CENTREVILLE -- Graveside service for Clelon D. "CD" Johnson, 78, of Pondville will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Pondville Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Collins officiating and Rocko's Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. He was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Steens, Miss., to Belton Johnson and Maudie Wallace Johnson. He retired as a machine operator for Worthington Climatrol in Decatur. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include one son, Barry Johnson of Hatton; one brother, Seburn Johnson of Columbus, Miss.; one sister, Mavis Ayres of Hueytown; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Thomas Alfred 'PeeWee' Pepper

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Thomas Alfred "PeeWee" Pepper, 62, of Athens, was to be today at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Phillip Owens officiating.

Mr. Pepper died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2001, at his home. He was born March 4, 1939, in Limestone County to William Franklin Pepper and Vernie Hamley Pepper.

Survivors include two brothers, Jerry Pepper and Dewey Pepper, both of Athens; and one sister, Judy Maybell Johnson of Athens.

William Wayne 'Pappy' Roberts

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for William Wayne "Pappy" Roberts, 67, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Gable and the Rev. Tom Campbell officiating.

Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery at Battleground. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Roberts died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at his home. He was born June 11, 1934, in Lawrence County to Julius Nathan Roberts and Clossie Lena Borden Roberts. He retired from General Electric where he worked in preventative maintenance. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda M. Roberts; one son, Mitchell W. Roberts of Massey; three daughters, Linda Millwood and Theresa Grissim, both of Vinemont, and Sharon Garner of Falkville; his mother of Falkville; one brother, Norman Roberts of Neel; four sisters, Jeanette Martin of Hartselle; Dorothy Menshall of Delton, Mich., Patricia Ray of Neel and Donna Bailey of Somerville; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Zac Grissim, Justin Grissim, Russell Roberts, Patrick Bailey, Stacey Ray and Tony Martin.

Michael Lloyd Stephenson

HARTSELLE -- Michael Lloyd Stephenson, 55, of Hartselle died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at his home.

The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 until 9 at Peck Funeral Home. The funeral home will announce further arrangements.

James Wesley Torbett

Graveside service for James Wesley Torbett, 55, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Mike King officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 at the funeral home.

Mr. Torbett died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Decatur. He was born Aug. 23, 1946, in California. He was retired from Owens Corning Co. He was the son of the late James F. Torbett and the brother of the late Nancy L. Garner.

Survivors include his mother, Virgie Torbett of Decatur.

Carl Franklin Arantz Jr.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Military graveside service for Col. Carl Franklin Arantz Jr., 76, of Milledgeville, Ga., formerly of Decatur, will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., with Metropolitan Funeral Service of Alexandria, Va., directing.

Moores Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Col. Franklin died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville. He was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Decatur to Carl Franklin Arantz Sr. and Elizabeth Furst Arantz. He retired from the United States Air Force.

Survivors include one daughter, Terri Capelle of Columbia, Md.; one sister, Elizabeth Eltz of Birmingham; and two grandchildren.
