Martha Ann 'Mattie' Boyd
Funeral for Martha Ann "Mattie" Boyd, 96, of Decatur will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Pat Brock officiating.
Burial will be in Cullman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Ms. Boyd died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at her residence. She was born Dec. 10, 1905, in Marshall County to Thomas Jefferson Boyd and Josephine Louise Gann Boyd.
She was sister of the late Lillian Self, Mabel Barnett, Erskine Boyd, Ernest Boyd and Isaac Boyd.
Ms. Boyd was a member of West Cullman Baptist Church and a former employee of the Goodyear mill.
Survivors include one brother, Carl Boyd of Decatur; and three sisters, Opal Norton, Pearl Smith and Idelma Abbott, all of Decatur.
George Henry Eason
CULLMAN -- Funeral for George Henry Eason, 73, of Cullman was to be today at 2 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Parker officiating. Burial was to be in Emeus Cemetery.
Mr. Eason died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Georgia to David Eason and Maudie Duke Eason. He retired as a mechanic for L&N Railroad and King Edward Cigar Co.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Faye Eason; one son, Kevin Eason of Cullman; two daughters, Elgiree Jones of Decatur and Shirley Ann Griffin of Hanceville; four sisters, Marietta Thompson, Hazel Eason, Jean Whitaker and Linda Bice, all of Cullman; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Myrtle S. Fisher
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Myrtle S. Fisher, 91, of Hartselle will be Thursday at noon at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Culotta officiating.
Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
Mrs. Fisher died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born July 21, 1910, in Louisiana to Joseph Sexton and Myrtle Ruby Sedqwick Sexton. She was retired from the Times Picayune newspaper in New Orleans and was the mother of the late Austin Provost Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Myrtle Ann Presley of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Terry Johnson, John Pellerin, Aaron Provost, Ashton Provost, Austin Provost III and Darryl Terry.
James Robert Hamilton
ATHENS -- Funeral for James Robert Hamilton, 57, of Athens will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with James Long officiating.
Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Hamilton died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at his home. He was born Jan. 29, 1944, in Limestone County. He was a retired police officer for the city of Athens and a Methodist.
Survivors include two sons, Mika Hamilton and Craig Hamilton, both of Athens; one daughter, Katrina Hamilton Brown of Athens; two brothers, Mark Hamilton and Jerry Hamilton, both of Athens; two sisters, Shelby Hamilton Nixon of Athens and Ann Hamilton Thomas of Huntsville; three grandsons and three granddaughters.
Pallbearers will be Marty Hamilton, Stephan Hamilton, Brett Posey, Chad Posey, Phillip Hamilton, Bracy Hamilton, Jason Hamilton and Johnny Mares Jr.
Jeremy Lee Johnston
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jeremy Lee Johnston, 27, of Eva was to be today at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnston died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Oct. 3, 1974, in Florida to Robert Rich and Teddie Jean Johnston Hall. He was a brick mason for Jones Masonry Company. He attended Falkville High School in 1990-1991 and was a member of the Standing Damage Band.
Survivors include his wife, Crystal Helms Johnston of Eva; one son, Gage Lee Johnston of Eva; one daughter, Jali Dawn Johnston of Eva; his father of Ocklawaha, Fla.; his mother of Inverness, Fla.; his stepfather, Bob Hall of Florida; two sisters, Nicole Lee Rich of Hartselle and Candi Marie Bennefield of Somerville.
Floyd Junior Ray
ATHENS -- Funeral for Floyd Junior Ray, 77, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Madison Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Tracey Smith, the Rev. Mike West- moreland and the Rev. Ray Pettit officiating.
Burial was to be in Rose- lawn Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Ray died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Limestone County to Floyd Alvin Ray and Elsie Brown Ray. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church for more than 40 years, where he served as deacon, church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was a member and current chaplain of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4765. He was also a member and chaplain of American Legion Post 49.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Ray; one son, Ronnie Ray of Stockbridge, Ga.; one daughter, Carolyn Smith of McDonough, Ga.; two brothers, Leonard Ray and Milton Ray, both of Athens; four sisters, Thelma Roberts of Decatur, Kathleen Tuck of Ardmore, Tenn., and Betty Mae Tuck and Hazel Teague, both of Athens; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tim Smith, Buster Ray, Billy Ray, David Brown, Terry Phillips and Bubba Murphey.
Michael Lloyd Stephenson
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Michael Lloyd Stephenson, 55, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Legg and the Rev. Ronnie Bullard officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Stephenson died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at his home. He was born April 25, 1946, in Morgan County to Lloyd George Stephenson and Maxine Grizzard Stephenson. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He graduated from Morgan County High School in 1964. Joe Wheeler Electric Membership Cooperative employed him for 30 years as a staking engineer. He graduated from the Lineman Training School. He was a 32nd Degree mason and a member of the Nunn-Oden Lodge No. 398. He was a Shriner and a member of Cahaba Temple in Huntsville. He was a member of the International Brotherhood or Electrical Workers for 30 years.
Survivors include two sons, Matthew Walter Stephenson and Timothy Lloyd Stephenson, both of Hartselle; one daughter, Robin Elizabeth Cutts of Birmingham; one brother, Rick Stephenson of Hartselle; and one sister, Melissa Stephenson Long of Falkville.
Pallbearers will be Preston Hall Jr., Dwain Keel, Fred Langston, Gene Larimore, Tommy Newman and Mickey Wallace.
Barry Donald Turney Sr.
CENTER STAR -- Funeral for Barry Donald Turney Sr., 66, of Killen, formerly of Eva, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Elkins Funeral Home with Al Geise officiating.
Burial will be in Green view Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Turney died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. He was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Auburntown, Tenn., to Samuel Turney and Myrtle Stephens Turney. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1957 from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. He worked several years in Huntsville at NSI before transferring to California. He retired in 1997 as senior vice president of ManTech and moved to Killen the following year. He was a member of the Mechanical Engineers Club and the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Johnson Turney; two sons, Don Turney of Toney and Greg Turney of Huntsville; one daughter, Julie Anna Smith of Madison; his parents of Nashville; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike Reeser, Andy Reeser, Richard Roberts, Leemon George, Allen Wilson and Dave Gruber.
Milford Houston Walker
HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for the Rev. Milford Houston Walker, 87, of Huntsville, formerly of Decatur, was Friday at Valhalla Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Harris, the Rev. Rick Cantrell and the Rev. Barry Henderson officiating.
Burial was in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mr. Walker died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at his home. He was born April 7, 1914, in Cullman. He graduated from Holly Pond High School and attended Saint Bernard College. He served as pastor of various Alabama churches for 55 years, including Wheeler Baptist Church in Lawrence County and Moulton Heights Baptist Church in Decatur. He was a member of Community Baptist Church. He was the widower of Christine Poff Walker and the father of the late Anita Johnson Rowell.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Vivian Johnson Walker; two sons, John Milford Walker of Gadsden and Phillip A. Johnson of Minor Hill, Tenn.; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Green of Gadsden; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Carl Franklin Arantz Jr.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Military graveside service for Col. Carl Franklin Arantz Jr., 76, of Milledgeville, Ga., formerly of Decatur, will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., with Metropolitan Funeral Service of Alexandria, Va., directing.
Moores Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Col. Arantz died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville. He was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Decatur to Carl Franklin Arantz Sr. and Elizabeth Furst Arantz. He retired from the United States Air Force.
Survivors include one daughter, Terri Capelle of Columbia, Md.; one sister, Elizabeth Eltz of Birmingham; and two grandchildren.
Stanley Lamar Boldin
A wake will be held Saturday from 4 to 8 for Stanley Lamar Boldin, 39, of Decatur at 2305 Maner St. S.W..
Mr. Boldin died Nov. 19, 2001, in Galveston, Texas. He was born Jan. 15, 1962, in Chicago to Bill Boldin and Doris Boldin. He was a carpenter and the brother of the late Starling Ferguson and the late Janet L. Harville.
Survivors include one daughter, Autumn Louise Boldin of California; three brothers, Marvin Ferguson of Decatur, Harvey Ferguson of Tennessee and Harlond Ferguson of Wisconsin; two sisters, Hilda Mason of Decatur and Ivory Phillips of Tennessee.
Joe G. Cook
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Joe G. Cook, 75, of Birmingham will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Rod Morgan officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 until 7 at the funeral home.
Mr. Cook died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at his home. He was born March 11, 1926, in Morgan County to Daniel Bradford Cook and Effie Blanche Francis Cook. He retired as captain of the Birmingham Fire and Rescue and as an employee of Beatrice Foods after 30 years of service. He graduated from Morgan County High School and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran who served in the Pacific.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Smith Cook; two sons, Joe. R. "Rusty" Cook and Scott Cook, both of Birmingham; one sister, Marsha Luter of Hartselle; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Edward Jervis Davies
Funeral for Edward Jervis Davies, 83, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Rollins officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 at the church.
Mr. Davies died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in Decatur. He was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Cincinnati to Edward Davies and Bonnie Jervis Davies. He graduated from Auburn University, where he was in the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and served in London on Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower's staff.
A salesman for Brock and Spight, he was a lifetime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, deacon, trustee and superintendent of Sunday school.
Survivors include one aunt, Mrs. R.H. Jervis of Decatur.
Pallbearers will be Ken Wood, Gil Crane, Rex Rankin, Doug Rogers, J.O. Colvard, Paul Blackwell, Lee Grubbs and Julian Bibb. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bill Eyster Bible Study Group.
