Lillian Smith

Funeral for Lillian Smith, 93, of Decatur will be today at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Boling and the Rev. Asa Boozer officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Miss Smith died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Nov. 23, 1908, in Decatur to Sydney A. Smith and Bessie Young Smith. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and worked 70 years ago as a saleswoman for Sam, Frank and Moore on Bank Street.

Miss Smith also worked many years delivering newspapers for The DECATUR DAILY.

Survivors include her cousin, Jeannette Smith Hunter of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Brown, Paul Hargrove and Flip Timberlake.

Daisy Lee Taylor

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Daisy Lee Taylor, 88, of Eva will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Stan Graves officiating.

Burial will be in Lawrence Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Taylor died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Marshall Medical Center North. She was born May 19, 1913, in Etowah County, to Thomas Carter Hopper and Earzola Hopper.

She worked as a cook and waitress. Mr. Taylor was the widow of William Issac Taylor and the mother of the late William Lewis Taylor.

Survivors include three sons, Donnie Taylor, J.D. Taylor and Robert Taylor, all of Fort Worth, Texas; six daughters, Linda Greer and Brenda Jester, both of Somerville, Betty Kanady of Cullman, Seeyilla Chatam of Eva, Mary Jane Elrod of Fort Worth, and Christine House of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 36 grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Venus Andrews

HALEYVILLE -- Funeral for Venus Andrews, 91, of Addison, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Wood officiating and Nichols Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 4:30 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Andrews died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Hendrix Health Care in Double Springs.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.

Nettie Elizabeth Huggins

ONEONTA -- Funeral for Nettie Elizabeth Huggins, 86, of Oneonta was to be today at 11 a.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Barnett and the Rev. David Julen officiating.

Burial was to be in Lebanon Cemetery.

Mrs. Huggins died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002. She was a community caregiver and a lifelong member of Union Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Huggins was the widow of Guy Huggins and the mother of the late Harold Wayne Huggins.

Survivors include two sons, Ellis Huggins of Decatur and John Allen Huggins of Bainbridge, Ga.; three daughters, Juanita Buckner of Auburn, Frances Barnett of Hoover and Nancy Gentry of Oneonta; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Virgil 'Tince' Laverne Jones

Funeral for Virgil "Tince" Laverne Jones, 88, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. E. L. Hardin and the Rev. Tom Elder officiating.

Burial will be in Basham Chapel Cemetery in Morgan County. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jones died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Dec. 10, 1913, in Morgan County to Patty Mae McCulloch Lane and Charles Walter Lane. She was a homemaker and a member of Basham Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Harold Lane of Hartselle; and one sister, Annie Puckett of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Terry Lane, Leoid Jones, Pat Lane, Phil Lane, Clyde George and Clay George.

Linda Kay Lee

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Linda Kay Lee, 58, of Decatur was to be today at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Father Joseph Culotta officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park and Memorial Gardens in Canton, Ohio.

Mrs. Lee died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born July 1, 1943, in Ohio to Evan G. Kopf and Eleanor I. Reifsnyder Kopf. She worked as a sales representative with Delta Airlines. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Lee; two daughters, Jennifer Petron of Monroe, Conn., and Kris Staudt of Hartselle; her mother of Coral Springs, Fla.; and one sister, Judy Brogden of Coral Springs.

Arthur Monroe Letson

Funeral for Arthur Monroe Letson, 80, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Moulton Baptist Church with Darryl Wood officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be at Moulton City Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Letson died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Lawrence County to Lewis and Nellie Letson.

He was a Marine Corps World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific, New Zealand, Guadalcanal, Bogainville, Pel- eliu and Palau Island. After the war, he became a methods engineer for Chemstrand, now Solutia. He later retired from Allied Signal.

He was also a member of Moulton Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ellen Letson; one son, Ray Letson; one daughter, Faye Letson McWhorter; one brother, Curtis Letson; one sister, Annie Letson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The U.S. Marine Corps will provide pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Moulton Baptist Church Building Fund.

Iristine Watts McCaig

Funeral for Iristine Watts McCaig, 81, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. G. Douglas Ripley officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCaig died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Walker County. She was a senior companion and a member of Decatur Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Russell of Decatur and Troy Russell of Athens; three daughters, Deborah McMurtrie, Charlotte Russell and Linda Morris, all of Decatur; one stepson, Jessie Russell of Niles, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Daisy Osborn of Decatur and Deveniard White of Memphis; two brothers, Troy Watts of Decatur and Cordis Watts of Birmingham; three sisters, Christine Allred, Thelda Kenerley and Shirley Kenerley, all of Birmingham; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Chris Russell, Jeremy Russell, Ronald Morris, Donald Morris, Joey Russell, Jason Cottingham and Scott Cottingham.

Ernest Lee Vest

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ernest Lee Vest, 67, of Hartselle will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Wright officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Vest died today, Jan. 14, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 1, 1934, in Morgan County. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Paulette Vest; three sons, Ernest Eugene Vest, Kenneth Dwayne Vest and David Vest, all of Decatur; one stepson, Mark Haywood of Hartselle; one daughter, Brenda Louise Vest of Decatur; two stepdaughters, Tracy Annette Slate and Patsy Robin Haywood, both of Hartselle; three brothers, Howard Ray Vest of Decatur, Charles E. Vest of Hartselle and Ronnie G. Vest of San Francisco; five sisters, Lorene Harvell and Ruth Dyar, both of Decatur, Marie Kelley of Athens, Linda Cothern of Hulaco and Ruth Garner of Massey; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mal Patterson, Bobby Halbrooks, Sammy Larimore, Chris Cobbs, Scott Cobbs and Rex Ward.

Vera Dye Allen
CULLMAN -- Funeral for Vera Dye Allen, 75, of Fairview will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mount Pisgah Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Edison and the Rev. Charles Jones officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Cullman Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Allen died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 26, 1926, in Cullman County to Grady J. Dye and Mary Grimes Dye. She was a member of Mount Pisgah UCP Church and was an active volunteer for the church. She was the sister of the late L.J. Dye and Farrell Dye and Wanda Adams. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. William H. Allen; two daughters, Juanita Healy and Paula Brock, both of Fairview; three brothers, Truman Dye of Gardendale, Norman Dye of Cullman and J.B. Dye of Decatur; one sister, Jamie Goeller of Cullman; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Teresa Ann Haff

Funeral for Teresa Ann Haff, 42, of Decatur will be Friday at noon at Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal with the Rev. Harrison McLeod officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Haff died at home Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002. She was born June 16, 1959, in Birmingham to George H. Cash and Nancy Earle Wynn Cash. She was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal. Over the years Mrs. Haff cared for several children who adopted her as a second mother. She worked for many different Christian organizations and the Cub Scouts.

Survivors include her husband, David Haff, and her mother, Nancy Cash of Decatur.

Barbara Bailey Hamilton

FLORENCE -- Graveside service for Barbara Bailey Hamilton, 64, of Florence will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Green view Memorial Park with the Rev. Gene Reynolds and the Rev. David Lee officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at Green view Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hamilton died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1937, in Madison County to Walter James Bailey and Bessie Lee Bailey. She was a homemaker and a member of St. James United Methodist Church. She was the sister of the late Jimmy Bailey.

Survivors include her husband, William "Brub" Hamilton; four sons, Bill Hamilton of Tuscumbia, Barry Hamilton and Brett Hamilton, both of Athens, and Bruce Hamilton of Florence; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Crutcher, Jerry Dowd, Jackie Ferguson, Gerald "Tuffy" Hudson, Jim Prater and Bob Stephenson.

Mattie B. Lipham Holloway

WEDOWEE -- Funeral for Mattie B. Lipham Holloway, 83, of Newell will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamar Reaves and the Rev. Roy Wysner officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before services.

Mrs. Holloway died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Wedowee Hospital. She was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Randolph County to Webster W. Reaves and Thena White Reaves. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church. She was the grandmother of the late Charles Michael Lipham Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Esul Holloway; one son, Charles Lipham of Decatur; one brother, T.R. Reaves of Gadsden; two sisters, Mamie Pitts of Enterprise and Mavis Collier of Anniston; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Pitts, Terry Weese, David Reaves, Jason Reaves, Kent Gurley and Coy Newton.
