ATHENS -- Funeral for Mary Laurene Whitehead, 83, of Anderson will be today at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Marty Mosley officiating.
Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery with Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Ms. Whitehead died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Aug. 26, 1918, in Anderson to W.H. Echols and Manerva Echols. She was a beautician.
Survivors include one son, Allen Moore of Anderson; two daughters, Joan Laxson of Elkmont and Janet Partrick of Athens; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Petey Grisham, Keith Laxson, Heath Laxson, Jason Laxson, Roger Mosley, James Stark and Joe Winnette.
Eunice Corene Akin
CULLMAN -- Funeral for Eunice Corene Akin, 77, of Falkville was to be today at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Blankenship and the Rev. Jimmy Legg officiating.
Burial was to be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Mrs. Akin died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born July 8, 1924, in Georgia to William Henry Waldrop and Meddie Yarbrough Waldrop. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Elmer Akin and the sister of the late Harvey Waldrop, Dewey Waldrop and Henry Waldrop.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Sherman Smith of Fairview and Carolyn Coy Rascoe of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Garlan Dallas Carroll
HILLSDALE, PA. -- Funeral for Garlan Dallas Carroll, 57, of Vinemont will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Fairview Church of God in Falkville with Dr. Milan Dekich and Tony Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the church.
A graveside chapel military service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at McDowell Cemetery in Barnesboro, Pa., with Milan Dekich officiating and Rairigh Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 until 3 p.m. at McDowell Cemetery Chapel.
Mr. Carroll died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Cullman Regional Center. He was born Nov. 22, 1944, in Cullman County to Gordon Carroll and Ruth Cornelius Carroll. He attended Fairview Church of God in Falkville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10774 in Falkville, and a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter AL11. He was the brother of the late Lattie Grace Carroll Powell and the late Grover Carroll.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Nancy Jean Anness Carroll; one son, Mark Hayes of Indian Head, Md.; two daughters, Heidi Carroll of Indian Head and Laura Ball of Montgomery; two step-daughters, Tracie Rippeon, of Fairfield, Pa., and Tina Anness of Camp Hill, Pa.; two sisters, Sophia Steele and Betty Leathers, both of Falkville; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Nolen died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Falkville Health Care Center. She was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Lawrence County to Thomas Lonzo Harris and Nettie Lucy Hood Harris. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Louise Naylor and Ruby Sandlin.
Survivors include one son, Johnny Nolen of Hartselle; three stepsons, Junior Nolen of Paw Paw, Mich., Charles Nolen of Hartselle and Hershel Nolen of Moulton; two daughters, Glenda Roberson and Sherry Jones, both of Hartselle; two stepdaughters, Velma Drane and Estelle Naylor, both of Moulton; three brothers, Robert Harris of Moulton and Bernard Harris and Buster Harris, both of Decatur; three sisters, Lorene McCaghren and Dolly Beck, both of Moulton, and Cora Love of Hartselle; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ricks died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at his home. He was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Georgia. He was a retired truck driver for ConAgra.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Ricks; six sons, David Ricks, Joel Moncrieff and Larry Ricks, all of Danville, and Cecil Lewter, Dennis Lewter and Howell Lewter, all of Hartselle; five daughters, Ruth Felong and Barbara Monzel, both of Danville, Karon Murphy of Hartselle, and Janet Weaver and Vickey Leeth; 25 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Wanda Faye Evans Thompson

Mrs. Thompson died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 16, 1943, in Morgan County to Marvin Evans and Mina Faye Slaton Evans. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church for 40 years.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, James Harold Thompson; three daughters, Tammy Thompson Fitzgerald and Darla Thompson Keenum, both of Danville and Crystal Thompson Mason of Decatur; three brothers, Jacky Evans and Jerry Evans, both of Hartselle, and the Rev. Sammy Evans of Decatur; and six grandchildren.
Nephews and Donald Morris and Wilburn Morgan will be pallbearers.
John Robert Timm

Mr. Timm died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born May 10, 1949, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Charles Mortimer Timm and Ruth Myrtle Gurney Timm. He served in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Donna J. Timm; one son, Daryl John Timm of Atlanta; three daughters, Heather Sherbourne of San Antonio, Texas, and Molly Looney and Paula Lott, both of Hartselle; one half-brother, Jerry Hamilton of Sneads, Fla.; four sisters, June White of Eatonton, Ga., Karen Wright of Ellsworth, Mich., Diane Sloan of Kalamazoo and Ruthann Cook of Three Rivers, Mich.; and 11 grandchildren.
Fred Vickers Sr.

Mr. Vickers died Jan. 20, 2002, at his residence. He was born Jan. 31, 1913, in Anniston to Fred Houston Vickers and Cora Bell Wrinkle Vickers. He was retired from Good- year Co. after 35 years of service and was a member of Austinville First Baptist Church for 62 years. He was the widower of Nora Mae Roberts Vickers.
Survivors include one son, Eugene Vickers Jr. of Decatur; one daughter, Louise Vickers Byrd of Decatur; one brother, Charles Vickers of Madison; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Grady Henderson Bailey

Mr. Bailey died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 17, 1913, in Cullman County to William Oran Bailey and Josie Lee Johnson Bailey. He was a homebuilder and a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church. He was the brother of the late Tip Bailey, Eual Bailey, Dual Bailey, Lily Keeton, Eunice Butler and Willodean Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Johnson Bailey; three daughters, Beverly Denny of Cullman and Connie Ridgeway and Jennie Adams, both of Decatur; four brothers, Jady Bailey, Claude Bailey, Carlton Bailey and Sanford Bailey, all of Cullman; one stepbrother, Price Robertson of Cullman; one sister, Edna Johns of Cullman; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

William C. 'Bill' Davis

Mr. Davis died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center of Decatur. He was born July 3, 1920, in Giles County, Tenn., to Joe Davis and Dezie Pilkinton Davis. A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he was a retired welder and an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Davis; one son, Don Davis of Atlanta; one daughter, Paula Brazier of Decatur; one sister, Addie W. Downs of Nashville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Dutton died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Hohenwald. She was born Jan. 30, 1939, in Lawrence County, to C.G. Reding and Berteen Reding. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Park Baptist Church of Decatur.
Survivors include her husband, Maurice Dutton; three sons, Marlon Dutton of Courtland, Roderick Dutton of Hartselle and Eddie Dutton of Decatur; one daughter, Lisa Peery of Hohenwald; one brother, Anthony Reding of Athens; one sister, Beverly Hames of Caddo; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Eugene Willard 'Gene' George

Mr. George died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born July 28, 1937, in Billings, Mont., to Carl George and Hallie George. He came to Huntsville in the 1950s and worked on a variety of U.S. Army and NASA projects. A U.S. Army veteran, he was an employee of Teledyne Brown Engineering, Chrysler and PEI Electronics Inc. He was a photography instructor at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was a member of the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill Huntsville (NAMIH), Highlands United Methodist Church in Huntsville and several antique automobile clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Linda George; his mother of Athens; two sons, Lance George of Huntsville and Vance George of Athens; two sisters, Carol Bernhardt of Billings, Mont., and Janie Duncan of Monrovia, Calif.; and one granddaughter.
