ATHENS -- Funeral for Mable B. Garrett Cox, 76, of Athens will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Johnny Jenkingsofficiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. Mrs. Cox died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
She was born July 3, 1923, in Limestone County. She was a lifelong resident of Limestone County and a member of First Baptist Church in Athens. She was a member of the Civitans Club, Teachers Association and PBW Association. She taught school in Limestone County for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Cox; one son, Thomas Norman Kirk of Athens; two sisters, Ruth Shelton of Athens and Sally Hess of Decatur; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Darron Calvert, Sam Hess, Joel Glaze, James Landtroop, Phillip Barker and Jeff Glaze.
Houston Elmo Hastings

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Houston Elmo Hastings, 72, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Huntsville with the Rev. Jack Redfearn officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Hastings died today, Nov. 9, 1999, at his residence. He was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Pecan Gap, Texas, to Shelby L. and Dessia T. Houston Hastings.
He later moved to Huntsville, where he graduated from Lincoln High School. He received an electrical engineering degree from Auburn University and was employed for several years with Huntsville Utilities. He retired in 1987 as power systems director of the city of Piqua, Ohio. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for American Municipal Power of Ohio, representing Western Ohio Service Group.
Until his illness, he served on the Hartselle Utilities Board. He was a member of the American Public Power Associations Advisory Board, representing the South Central states. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a deacon and member of West Hartselle Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Smith Hastings; four sons, Carey Hastings of Morristown, Tenn., City Councilman Phil Hastings of Decatur, Steven Hastings of Dallas, and Mark Hastings of Huntsville; one daughter, Wendy Wion of Piqua, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of West Hartselle Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Mr. Highsmith died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Nov. 13, 1938, in Nashville. He was a self-employed sales representative.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Patterson; two daughters, Tina Sisco of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Lisa Walker of Athens; two stepdaughters, Cindy Tolbert of Ardmore and Tina Hogan of Elkmont; his mother, Lois Clem of Athens; his stepfather, Thomas Clem of Athens; one brother, Thomas Dean Clem of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two sisters, Linda Haney and Judy Goode, both of Athens; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hosford died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in Denver. She was born Sept. 1, 1935 in Otis, Colo., to Maurice and Anna Weir. She was a clerk for the Washington County Social Services and city of Denver.
She is survived by four sons, David Hosford of Angier, N.C., George Hosford of Aurora, Colo., Howard Hosford of Elkmont, and Jerry Hosford of Cameron, N.C.; two sisters, Betty Lewis of Manchester, Iowa, and Esther Weir of Aurora; and 11 grandchildren.

He was born Nov. 6, 1915, in Moulton to Quill and Rufina Jackson. He retired from Stockham Valve Co. in Birmingham and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Jackson; three sons, Larry Allen Jackson of Moulton, Kenneth Young Jackson and David Andrew Jackson, both of Birmingham; one brother; four sisters; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Shriver Class at Belmont United Methodist Church, and a Worthy Matron and past member of the Rock City Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Clarence F. Johnson Sr.
She is survived by two sons, Clarence F. Johnson Jr. of Athens and David H. Johnson of Frisco, Colo.; one daughter, Barbara Ann Robb of Mid West City, Okla.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was born Feb. 7, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas, to H.B. and Helen Richards. A member of Austinville Church of Christ, he was a pipe welder and a member of Steamfitters Union Local 760. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the brother of the late Travis Mitchell Richards and David Richards.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Richards; three sons, Micah Richards of Hartselle and Adam Richards and Lucas Richards, both of Decatur; one stepson, Aaron Clarke of Decatur; one stepdaughter, Jaimee Clarke of Decatur; his parents of Hardey, Ark.; two sisters, Susan Langley of Corinth, Miss., and Lori Richards of Hardy; and one grandchild.
