Mary Lee Fisher

MEMPHIS -- Funeral for Mary Lee Fisher, 86, of Memphis, and formerly of Decatur, will be today at noon at Germantown Parkway Chapel.

Burial will be in Memory Hill Garden.

Mrs. Fisher died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Applingwood Health Care. She was born July 14, 1915, in Decatur to Eugene Columbus Long and Sarah Adrian Huckaba Long. She was a member of Macon Road Presbyterian Church and the Moose Club. She was the widow of Ottis G. Fisher.

Survivors include one son, Richard Fisher of Cordova, Tenn., two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

J.W. 'Shorty' Hill

Funeral for J.W. "Shorty" Hill, 81, of Trinity will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Caudle officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hill died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Decatur. He was born Nov. 28, 1920, in Evansville, Ind. A member of Trinity Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge 43 of Leighton, he was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, an electrician and retired from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 558 of Sheffield.

Survivors include his wife, Ivine Hill; three sons, Wendell Morgan of Brownsboro, and John Morgan and Arthur Sorrell, both of Trinity; two daughters, Camille Underwood of Leighton and Dee Smith of Cullman; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Dunn, Bubba Underwood, Joey Letson, Josh Sorrell, Chris Underwood and Ronald Dunn.

Roy Lee Osborne Jr.

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Roy Lee Osborne Jr., 73, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Blackman and the Rev. Douglas Wells officiating.

Burial will be in Forrest Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Osborne died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born June 21, 1928, in Morgan County to Roy Lee Osborne Sr. and Sarah Mahaley Roberts Osborne.

He was a member of Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of American Legion Post 52. He was a master gardener in Concord, N.C. A design engineer for IBM and a member of the Osborne Brothers Quartet, he was father of the late Carol Osborne McIntyre and brother of the late L.C. Osborne and Billy Charles Osborne.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Edith Curtis Osborne; one son, Donald Wayne Osborne of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; four daughters, Barbara Long and Connie McCutcheon, both of Hartselle, and Becky Romine and Nancy Wells, both of Decatur; three brothers, Edward Leon Osborne of Birmingham, Gurney Ray Osborne Sr. of Decatur and Bobby Gerald Osborne of Memphis; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

James Harvey Charles
ARAB -- Funeral for James Harvey Charles, 67, of Joppa will be today at 2 p.m. at Arab Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Bud Wilkinson, the Rev. Willis Hill and the Rev. Roger Latham officiating.

Burial will be in Ryan Cemetery.

Mr. Charles died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Marshall County to Samuel Carl Charles and Vivian Camp Charles. He was a retired craft maintenance worker for Eaton Corp. and a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was a founding member of Tri-County Volunteer Fire Department at Hulaco and was instrumental in starting the Joppa, Hulaco, Ryan Water Authority.

Survivors include his wife, Madelyn G. Charles; one son, Alan Charles of Hulaco; one brother, T.D. Dyane Charles of Arab; two sisters, Johnnie Latham Thomas and Cherry Sue Bowen, both of Hulaco; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tony Latham, Dennis Latham, Harry Bowen, Kenny Hawkins, Mark Hawkins and Mark Easterwood.

Bertie Lee Halbrooks

MOULTON -- Funeral for Bertie Lee Halbrooks, 99, of Warrior will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Old Liberty Congregational Church with the Rev. Hollis Rutherford and the Rev. James Anderton officiating.

Burial will be in Old Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Elliott Funeral Home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Halbrooks died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at her residence. She was born Dec. 16, 1902, in Lawrence County to Willis Oliver and Laura Leamon Oliver. The widow of Travis Halbrooks, she was a homemaker and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Mullens and Nadine Barnett, both of Warrior; one brother, Spencer Oliver of Sheffield; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roger Roden, Ronnie Roden, Ira Barnett, Ronald Barnett, Harold Barnett and Clinton Yarbrough.

Ada Powell Hathcoat

FLORENCE -- Graveside service for Ada Powell Hathcoat, 85, of Florence will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Henderson officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Green view Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hathcoat died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at her residence. She was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Morgan County to John David Powell and Nancy Smith Powell. The retired Goodyear Tire and Rubber employee was the widow of Floyd E. Flowers and Edward L. Hathcoat. She was mother of the late James W. Flowers.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue Flowers Lynn and Judy Flowers Stalcup, both of Florence; one brother, Claude Powell of Cullman; three sisters, Lavina Mae Hulse of Decatur, and Frances Odell Hurst and Valera Lindsey, both of Doniphan, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Heath Willingham, Mike Flowers, Steve Flowers, Ken Tabor, Russ Landers and Eric Tanner.

Jerome Darrell Henderson

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jerome Darrell Henderson, 38, of Valhermoso Springs will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewitt Crow and the Rev. Ralph Snowden officiating.

Burial will be in Center Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Henderson died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Valhermoso Springs. He was born March 8, 1963, in Jackson County to Hammond Ray Henderson and Margery Fellers Henderson. The 1981 Brewer High School graduate was a welder for 22 years and a volunteer firefighter. BE & K Construction Co. employed him.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Henderson; his mother of Valhermoso Springs; one son, Chase Edward Henderson of Valhermoso Springs; two daughters, Candis Nichole Henderson and Jessica Denia Henderson, both of Valhermoso Springs; one brother, Greg Henderson of Tupelo, Miss.; and one sister, Rose Chunn of Valhermoso Springs.

Pallbearers will be Jason Meares, John Meares, John McSpadden, Roger McSpadden, Jimmy Scott and Bobby Scott.

Amy M. Horton

RUSSELLVILLE -- Funeral for Amy M. Horton, 81, of Moulton will be today at 2 p.m. at Eastside Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Steward and the Rev. Mike McCullough officiating.

Burial will be in Ferguson Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Horton died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in Moulton. She was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Lawrence County to Richard Berryman and Mary Sparks Berryman. She was a member of Eastside Missionary Baptist Church in Russellville and the widow of Horace P. Horton. She was mother of the late Pelham R. Horton, Johnny Horton and Jamie Horton, and sister of the late Edgar Berryman, Henry Berryman, Charles Berryman and Clarence Berryman.

Survivors include three sons, Vernon Horton of Moulton, Junior Horton of Town Creek and Jerry Horton of Leighton; six daughters, Flouise Kiser, Jean Randolph and Elizabeth Sutton, all of Town Creek, Linda Fortner and Melissa Mayfield, both of Russellville, and Sandra Kay Alexander of Phil Campbell; 25 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Sherman David Johnson

HARTSELLE -- Sherman David Johnson, 72, of Decatur died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital.

He was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Etowah County to Sherman Horton Johnson and Flora Walls Johnson. He was a Baptist who served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include four daughters, Phyllis Johnson West and Deborah Johnson South, both of Decatur, Theresa Johnson Baker of Ringgold, Ga., and Jacqueline Johnson South of Decatur; one brother, Robert "Ginger" Johnson of Gadsden; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Meals on Wheels.

Ruth M. Taylor

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Funeral for Ruth M. Taylor, 75, of Baton Rouge and formerly of Hartselle, was Saturday at Rabenhorst East Chapel Church with the Rev. Carol Winn officiating.

Burial was in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Mrs. Taylor died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at her residence. She was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Hartselle to Lewis E. Sandlin and Lillian Roberts Sandlin.

The retired beautician was the widow of Albert Bernard Taylor and Millard Morris, and mother of the late Charles Morris, Gary Morris and Lynn Dupuy. She was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Richard Taylor of Baton Rouge; one stepdaughter, Toni Shoemaker of Birmingham; one sister, Lois Wallace of Hartselle; one brother, Eugene Sandlin of Rogersville; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Nephews were pallbearers.

Levana 'Granny' Townsend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Funeral for Levana "Granny" Townsend, 94, of Louisville and formerly of Athens, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Awkard officiating.

Burial will be in Green Meadows Memorial Cemetery with J.C. Williams Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Townsend died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Jewish Hospital.

Survivors include one son, Tommie Townsend; and three daughters, Mary Goatley, Mattie Cannon and Rachel Byrd.

Jimmie Ray Allen
Funeral for Jimmie Ray Allen, 50, of Decatur was Sunday at Apostolic Church of God with Jonathan Pulliam officiating.

Burial was in Sterrs Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Allen died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Feb. 10, 1952, in Morgan County to Ernestine Allen. He was a graduate of Austin High School and Calhoun Community College. He served in the U.S. military. He was a member of the Apostolic Church of God where he was Sunday school superintendent and assistant superintendent of the Southeastern District Church Council. He was employed at General Electric Co.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Kennedy Allen; two sons, Jeffrey Langford of Detroit and Nickolas Kennedy of Decatur; one daughter, Angelia S. Allen of Decatur; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charles Wiggins Sr., Rex Jarmon, Anthony Batts, Calvin Rice, Larry Kennedy, David Taylor, Tommy Sykes and Perry Freeman.

James Wesley 'Jim' Chappell Jr.

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James Wesley "Jim" Chappell Jr., 61, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Clem and the Rev. Rebecca Lapiro Harvey officiating.

Burial will be in Cook Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Chappell died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at his home. He was born June 25, 1940, in Morgan County to James Wesley Chappell Sr. and Beulah Mae Taylor Chappell. He was a member of Beulahland Church and owned and operated Chappell Distributing.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Viola Chappell; two sons, J.P. Chappell and Jeff Chappell, both of Falkville; one daughter, Renetta Hall of Falkville; one brother, Jerry Chappell of Falkville; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Hall, Dustin Hall, David Chappell, Chris Chappell, Trey Brooks and Bob Brooks.
