Funeral for John Anthony Rice, 49, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen's Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Rice officiating.
Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.
Mr. Rice died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Cooper Green Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Oct. 18, 1952, in Decatur. He was a member of St. Stephen's Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Darius Dobbins of Houston, Texas, Tavares Reed, Dominique Bass and Corey Williams, all of Decatur; four daughters, Erica Reed, Marot Reed, Minon Reed, all of Decatur, and Starry Jones of Virginia Beach, Va.; his mother, Lucille Rice of Decatur; two brothers, Sam Rice of Decatur and Willie Rice of Clarksville, Tenn.; his grandmother, Mary Sizemore of Decatur; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bishop Miller, Sherman Morris Jr., Anthony Ballentine, Greg Scruggs, John Ellison and Raphael Gray.
Willie James Roberts
TANNER -- Funeral for Willie James Roberts, 51, of Athens will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at People's Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Simmons officiating.
Burial will be in Hatchett Cemetery in Tanner.
Mr. Roberts died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Athens Limestone Hospital. He was born April 3, 1950, in Limestone County to Horace Scott and Ida Mae Scott.
Survivors include his parents of Athens; one brother, Edward Scott of Athens; three sisters, Anna Shoulders, Joyce Malone and Mary Gill, all of Athens; and his grandmother, Lois Roberts of Athens.
Hilda Womack Smith
HUNTSVILLE -- Graveside service for Hilda Womack Smith, 80, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville with Dr. Mel Strain officiating and Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Smith died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Huntsville. She lived in Decatur and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Huntsville.
Survivors include one son, Fulton H. Stokes of Jackson, Miss.; and one daughter, Helen Smith McCune of Athens and several grandchildren.
Philip Wafray Wilson
HALEYVILLE -- Funeral for Philip Wafray Wilson, 57, of Addison will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Wood, the Rev. Junior Rogers and the Rev. Randy Sellers officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Nichols Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Wilson died March 2, 2002, at his home. He was born Nov. 23, 1944, in Alabama.
Survivors include his wife, Delanie "Dee Dee" Wilson; one son, Mark Philip Wilson of Addison; one daughter, Cynthia Nuss of Addison; one stepson, John Sharp of Hillsboro; one stepdaughter, Leasa Quiles of Hampton, Ga.; one sister, Marie Cleghorn of Arley; and seven step grandchildren.
Harold Milton Winchester
MOULTON -- Funeral for Harold Milton Winchester, 77, of Hillsboro will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Gillespie officiating.
Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Winchester died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Russellville Hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Lawrence County to George Winchester and Clara Winchester. He was a retired welder from Monsanto and Champion International and brother of the late Rex W. Winchester.
Survivors include four brothers, Michael Winchester of Decatur, Thomas Winchester and Marion Edward Winchester, both of Trinity, and Mark Winchester of Flawton, Mich.; three sisters, Phillis Ockerman of Kalamazoo, Mich., Teresa Letson of Mattawan, Mich., and Nancy Winchester of Lawrence, Mich.; one stepson, James Randell Haynes of Kalamazoo; one brother, Ernest Winchester of Adamsville; one sister, Virginia Winchester Jones of Birmingham; and 24 grandchildren.
Linda Jo Hughes Cornelious

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Ms. Cornelious died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at her home. She was born April 14, 1944, in Morgan County to J.N. Hughes and Marjorie Compton Hughes. She was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Samuel H. Kitchens II of Danville; two daughters, Tammy J. Griffin of Decatur and Ann Marie Gatlin of Oden Ridge; and eight grandchildren.
Johnie Lee Garlen
ATHENS -- Funeral for Johnie Lee Garlen, 65, of Athens was to be today at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Kirk Bobo officiating.
Burial was to be in O'Neal Cemetery.
Mr. Garlen died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Limestone County to Bill Garlen and Annie Moran Garlan. He was a member of O'Neal Church of Christ. He was former owner and operator of Garlen's Body Shop in Athens.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline T. Garlen; one son, John Edward Garlen of Elkmont; one daughter, Kathleen R. Barran; one brother, Bobby Garlen of Athens; one sister, Annie Jo Peek of Athens; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Dewey Moran, Wayne Moran, Scott Garlen, Eugene Garlen, Eddie Garlen and Mike Ashline.
Jackie Marion 'Happy Jack' Greer
CULLMAN -- Jackie Marion "Happy Jack" Greer, 58, of Falkville died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at his home.
The family will receive family tonight from 6 until 7 and friends and family from 7 until 9.
Mr. Greer was born Aug. 25, 1943, to Ralph Greer and Ruth Hasenbein. He was an artist.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Patrick Greer of Cullman and Stark Anthony Greer of Chattanooga; one daughter, Bonnie Suzette McMinn of Vinemont; his mother of Cullman; one brother, Randy Hasenbein of Vinemont; and four grandsons.

Richard Allen Hagood Sr.
ATHENS -- Funeral for Richard Allen Hagood Sr., 73, of Athens was to be today at 3 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with Don Osborne officiating.
Burial was to be in Athens City Cemetery.
Mr. Hagood died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at his home. He was born April 30, 1928, in Limestone County. He was a retired machinest and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired race car driver and a member of Westview Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Gayle Romine Hagood; two sons, Richard Allen Hagood Jr. of Athens and David W. Hagood of Elkmont; two daughters, Catherine Lin Smith of Athens and Cynthia Leigh Pressnell of Anderson; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Horace Johnson, John Dodd, Phillip Pressnell, Vic Smith, Jimmy Carter, Hubert Chittam and Terry Pugh.

Ms. Murphy died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at her home. She was born June 3, 1944, in Montgomery to Evans Scarborough and Dorothy Warren Scarborough. She was the sister of the late George Lee.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Murphy of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Davis Woodruff of Decatur; and one grandchild.

Claude Thomas Robinson Jr.
ATHENS -- Graveside service for Claude Thomas Robinson Jr., 71, of Athens was to be held today at 3 p.m. at Bottoms Cemetery with Harold Turner officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Robinson died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
He was born June 15, 1930, in Limestone County to Claude Thomas Robinson Sr. and Ethel Mae Griffin Robinson. He was a retired truck driver and painter.
Survivors include one son, Joe Robinson of Athens; two brothers, Bill Robinson of Wetumpka and Jack Robinson of Gulf Shores; four sisters, Violet Edgemon, Birdie Bates, Hazel Smith and Betty Turner, all of Athens; and four grandchildren.
Jewell Ashwander Springfield
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jewell Ashwander Springfield, 93, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Weldon officiating.
Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Springfield died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Hartselle Medical Center.
She was born July 25, 1908, in Arkansas to Adolph Ashwander and Ethel Dalton Ashwander. The member of Falkville First United Methodist Church retired from F.E. Burleson Elementary School in 1976. She was an elementary teacher in Falkville and Hartselle for 27 years. She was a member of the Alabama Retired Teacher's Association, the Alabama Education Association and a member of United Methodist Women. She was the widow of Curtis Dwight "C.D." Springfield and mother of the late Murray A. "Skippy" Springfield.
Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Arndt of Somerville, Celia Graham and Linda Adams, both of Hartselle, and Peggy Boozer of Mount Airy, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Newman, David Graham, Jonathan Graham, Michael Arndt, Matthew Arndt and Tim Lawrence.

Opal Harris Stephenson

Mrs. Stephenson died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital.
She was born May 26, 1920, in Lawrence County to Virgil Harris and Annie Green field Hampton Harris. She was a member of Florette Church of Christ. She was a teacher in Morgan County several years and retired from Lurleen B. Wallace Developmental Center as a mental health worker. She was the widow of Prentiss Oswald "P.O." Stephenson and sister of the late John Almon Harris, Irby Harris, Leldon Harris, Otis Harris, Melvin Harris, Curtis Harris and Oma Taylor.
Survivors include five sons, Stanton Stephenson, Sherman Stephenson, Rayford Stephenson and Jerry Stephenson, all of Hartselle, and Preston Stephenson of Oden Ridge; two daughters, Barbara Stephenson and Debra Stephenson, both of Hartselle; two sisters, Mae Childers of Oden Ridge and Dixie Clarke of Athens; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Landers, Jeff Landers, Mike Nau, Tyler Nau, John Long and Darrell Terry.
