Helen Patterson Anthony
ABILENE, Texas -- Graveside service for Helen Patterson Anthony, 87, of Abilene, formerly of Decatur, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Darrell Patterson officiating.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Anthony died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at an Abilene hospital. She was born Aug. 29, 1914, in Blossburg, to Otto Fischer and Lela Lawrence Fischer. She was a 1930 graduate of Riverside High School in Decatur and received her bachelor's degree from Florence State Teachers College in 1934. She received a master's degree in education from McMurry College in Abilene in 1955.
She was married to the late Lorenzo Dow Patterson III of Decatur in 1938. She moved to Abilene in 1950, after living in New Orleans. She taught school in Abilene for 24 years, retiring in 1974. She taught for five years at Gordon Bibb Elementary School while in Decatur. The Abilene Independent School District named her Teacher of the Year for upper elementary grades in the 1962-63 school year.
Mrs. Anthony was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she attended the Homebuilders class. She was an emeritus member of the Abilene Woman's Club and a member of the Seago Circle of United Methodist Women, AARP and local, state and national retired teachers associations. She was a former member of Sorosis Club and the Zeta Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Her husband died in 1965 and she remarried in 1970. She also was the sister of the late Otto Fischer Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Malcolm Anthony; one son, Lorenzo Dow Patterson IV of San Antonio; one stepson, Jack M. Anthony of Dallas; one stepdaughter, Jane Campbell of Tempe, Ariz.; one sister, Mary Fuller of Decatur; two grandsons; four step granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.

Rowie Edwin 'Sonny' Bridges Sr.
CULLMAN -- Memorial service for Rowie Edwin "Sonny" Bridges Sr., 71, of Eva will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Mr. Bridges died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 27, 1931, to Rowie A. Bridges and Lola Moye Bridges, and was a retired insurance adjuster.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Lorell Grimmett Bridges; one son, Edwin Bridges Jr. of Huntsville; one brother, Gerald Bridges of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Joan Knight and Betty Jane Clements, both of Dublin, Ga., and Paige Pryor of Huntsville; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert O. 'Bob' Morse
ATHENS -- Graveside service for Robert O. "Bob" Morse, 90, of Lester will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Salem Cemetery with A. Ray Blankenship officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. Morse died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born March 2, 1912, in Peoria County, Ill. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and from Civil Service at Redstone Arsenal. He was the widower of Leora Corder Morse and the stepfather of T.A. "Bud" Corder.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Grivas of Wildwood, Ga., Joan Rainwater of Alexandria, Va., and Karen Sue Smith of Centerville, Va.; one step-daughter, Rachel D. Clem of Athens; one sister, Leona Mitzelfelt of Clovis, N.M.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bart Beasley, Tommy Beasley, Marcus Christopher, Tim Christopher, Scott Grivas and Steve Rainwater.

Breyonn Weakley
Graveside service for the infant Breyonn Weakley of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Nick White officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
The infant died Monday, March 11, 2002, the day of his birth, at Decatur General Hospital.
Survivors include his parents, Lashonda Smith and William Weakley, both of Decatur; maternal grandparents, James Smith and Ada Smith, both of Decatur; and paternal grandparents, William Weakley Sr. of Butler and Molly Weakley of Decatur.
John D. 'J.D.' Winton
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for John D. "J.D." Winton, 79, of Somerville will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Estus Hardin and the Rev. Wayne Penn officiating.
Burial will be in Center Springs Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Winton died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his home. He was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Morgan County to Purley G. Winton and Magnolia Lynn Winton. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and brother of the late Calvin V. Winton.
Survivors include one brother, Iris Winton of Somerville; and one sister, Jura Mae Dobbs of Somerville.
Pallbearers will be Robert Freeman, Vaughn Winton, Gary Dobbs, Michael Dobbs, Jerry Dobbs and Steve Dobbs.
Florence Hargrove
ATHENS -- Graveside service for Florence Hargrove, 91, of Athens will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetey with Bob White officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hargrove died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Jan. 29, 1911, in Limestone County to Rome Sandridge and Betty Williford Sandridge. She was a lifelong resident of Limestone County and a Baptist. She was the widow of Ernest Hargrove and the mother of the late Joe Wayne Hargrove.
Survivor includes one sister, Lucille Campbell of Atlanta.
Pallbearers will be Paul Stewart, Henry Carter, Odie Lee Presnell, Steve Stewart, Harold McKee and John Wade Perry.
Hoover 'Hover' Johnson
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Hoover "Hover" Johnson, 84, of Falkville will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Powell's Chapel Church with the Rev. Bill Partridge and the Rev. Nathan Green officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church Friday from 9 a.m. until the service.
Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Morgan County, to William Parks Johnson and Daisy Magaline Mewbourn Johnson. He was retired from Decatur Iron and Steel as a master welder and was a member of Miracle Church of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Pauline Johnson; two sons, Bill Johnson and Wade Johnson, both of Birmingham; two daughters, Nancy Carol Johnson Green and Margene Johnson McGee, both of Falkville; one brother, Grady Johnson of Trafford; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Audie Morgan Manley

Mrs. Manley died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Cullman County, to Albert Henry Posey and Alice Walker Posey. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, William Manley; three sons, David Morgan of Decatur and Derric Morgan and Dale Morgan, both of Lacey Springs; one daughter, Brenda Motes of Somerville; four brothers, Harold Posey of Somerville, Floyd Posey and Robert Posey, both of Decatur and Dee Posey of Trinity; three sisters, Christine Hartselle of Decatur, Ora Dean Holbert of Trinity and Beula Brown of Priceville; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ms. Bailey died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at her home. She was born Nov. 3, 1934, in Lawrence County to Rufus Riley Bailey and Ada Malinda Lawrimore Bailey. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Lang died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital.
She was born Aug. 14, 1966, in Morgan County to John Summers and Susan Dugger Summers. She attended Decatur High School.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn Wayne Lang of Decatur; two sons, Mitchell Lee Lang and Weston Bryant, both of Decatur; her mother, of Decatur; her father and stepmother, Bonnie Summers, both of Trinity; and one sister, Janet Summers of Decatur.

Clemmie Callahan Pierce
BOLIVAR, Tenn. -- Funeral for Clemmie Callahan Pierce, 89, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shackleford Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Callahan officiating.
Burial will be in West Memorial Cemetery near Saulsbury, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pierce died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at her home. She was born March 26, 1912, in Tennessee to Robert M. Callahan and Mary E. Callahan. She lived in Saulsbury, Tenn., and Corinth, Miss., before moving to Alabama in 1992. She was a homemaker and a member of West Memorial Baptist Church since 1924.
Survivors include one son, James C. Pierce of Decatur; one daughter, Eva Jean Collins of Hartselle; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Susie Bell Prewitt
MOBILE -- Funeral for Susie Bell Prewitt, 79, of Decatur, formerly of Mobile, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home two hours before services.
Mrs. Prewitt died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at her home. She was born May 25, 1922, in Opelika to Eugene Augustus Bell and Nancy Ennis Bell. She was a longtime civil service employee in aircraft support at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile and retired from the Pensacola Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. She was the widow of Joseph Sherwood Prewitt.
Survivors include one son, Martin E. Prewitt of Mobile; one daughter, Patricia Prewitt Dove of Decatur; and six grandchildren.
