GADSDEN -- Funeral for Helen Gieger Jones, 84, of Russellville will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Harbison officiating.
Burial will be Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 5:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jones died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Russellville Hospital. She was born April 9, 1917. She was a former member of East Gadsden Baptist Church and was a member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church in Decatur. She was a hostess at Bea's Tea Room in Gadsden for several years and was cafeteria manager at Guntersville Elementary School. She served as a volunteer hostess at First Baptist Church in Birmingham and First Baptist Church in Guntersville. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Guntersville.
She was wife of the late Lonnie F. Jones and sister of the late Dr. Hollis Gieger.
Survivors include two sons, William Jones of Moulton and Franklin E. Jones of Hoover; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Family members will be pallbearers and doctors and the staff members of Terrace Manor Nursing Home will be honorary pallbearers.

Freddie Joe 'Chico' Martinez Jr.
Funeral for Freddie Joe "Chico" Martinez Jr., 52, of Tanner will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. George Sawyer officiating.
Burial will be in Burningtree Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Martinez died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at NHC Healthcare Center in Moulton. He was born Sept. 24, 1949, in New Mexico. He was a supervisor at Delphi where he had worked 18 years. Before then, he worked at Monsanto for 17 years. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Martinez; two daughters, Melia Mead of Memphis, Tenn., and Jade Martinez of Tanner; one stepdaughter, Cassandra Ritterbush of Elkmont; one son, Jamie Martinez of Cullman; one stepson, Nicholas Hill of Decatur; mother, Nancy Mathis of Trinity; two sisters, Freda Borowicz and Belinda Appleton, both of Trinity; grandfather, Alvin Gertis Williams of Cullman; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Paul McCrary, Thomas Britnell, Danny McCaig, Stanley Coan, Bill Welch and Don Putty.
Alexie Glibert Ragsdale
Funeral for Alexie Gilbert Ragsdale, 97, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Holt officiating.
Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ragsdale died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born March 25, 1904 in Jefferson County to Jeffie Nolen Gilbert and Luna Page Gilbert. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
She was wife of the late Claude Ragsdale Sr. and mother of the late Jeff Ragsdale, Roland Ragsdale, Claude Ragsdale Jr. and Alma Grace Thomas.
Survivors include three sons, Lindbergh M. Ragsdale of Decatur, John G. Ragsdale of Hartselle and Van Ragsdale of Moulton; three daughters, Sylvia Pridmore of Moulton, Auriel Lee Terry and Sybil Neathammer, both of Decatur; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Jerry Wayne Riddle
ARAB -- Funeral for Jerry Wayne Riddle, 58, of Arab will be today at 2 p.m. at Gober Funeral Home with the Rev. James O. Wallace officiating.
Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery.
Mr. Riddle died Friday, March 22, 2002, at his home. He was born May 19, 1943.
He was a truck driver and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Riddle; one daughter, Mellisa Barnett of Decatur; two stepsons, Scott Keller and David Keller, both of Arab; one half-brother, Larry Riddle of Morgan City; one half-sister, Carolyn Riddle of Morgan City; and five grandchildren.
Helen Betterton Roan
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Helen Betterton Roan, 81, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Scotty Hogan officiating.
Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Roan died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born March 10, 1921, in Jefferson County to William Erby Betterton and Sallie Roberts Betterton. She worked at Decatur General for 25 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She attended Calvary Assembly of God Church and was a member of American Association of Retired Persons.
She was wife of the late Ralph William Roan.
Survivors include three sons, William Roan and Harlon Roan, both of Decatur, and Wendell Roan of Somerville; one brother, Fred Betterton of Huntsville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joey Roan, Del Lynn Roan, Jerry Betterton, Wayne Betterton, Billy Jack Graves and Lance Martin.
Marjorie Coupar Absher
HANCEVILLE -- Marjorie Coupar Absher, 70, of West Point died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at her home.
No services are planned. Hanceville Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Absher was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Flint, Mich., to James Coupar and Lily Raven Coupar. She was a therapist at North Central Alabama Mental Health Center for 17 years and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cullman. She was the mother of the late David Harp and sister of the late Lillian Shepheard. Survivors include her husband, Don Aaron Absher; one son, Craig Harp of West Point; three daughters, Lynda Medlock of West Point, Laurie Hasenbein of Hanceville and Lisa Sparks of West Point; one stepson, Donald Richard Absher of Bartlett, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Foster Bailey

Larry Giles

Mr. Giles died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at his home. He was born July 12, 1949, in Georgia, to Joseph Richard Giles and Patsy Morris Giles. He was a welder inspector and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include two sons, Tony Giles and Jody Giles, both of Winter Haven, Fla.; two daughters, Lori Terry and Codee Giles, both of Moulton; two brothers, Gene Giles of Winter Haven and Tommy Giles of Barto, Fla.; one sister, Joanne Vickers of Winter Haven; and two grandchildren.

John Howard Kieff Jr.
ATHENS -- Funeral for John Howard Kieff Jr., 77, of Athens will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Milton Burks and Randell Robertson officiating.
Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Kieff died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Limestone County to John Kieff and Anna Pugh Kieff. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. He was retired from Huntsville Utilities and was a member of University Baptist Church in Huntsville. He was the brother of the late Huston Kieff and Hazel Heathcoat.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Robertson Kieff; one son, Howard Harold Kieff of Polk City, Fla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Reba Self

Mrs. Self died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center. She was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Danville to Emmett Cooper and Essie Hall Cooper. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann Brooks of Monroe, Ga., and Janna Lee Jennings of Sharpsburg, Ga.; one brother, James Cooper of Decatur; three sisters, Betty Hollifield of Florida and Jean King and Thelma Mattox, both of Alabama; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Timothy Donovan Stevenson
AMORY, Miss. -- Graveside service for Timothy Donovan Stevenson, 3, of South Boston, Va., will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Lynn Joyner officiating and Pickel Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Powell Funeral Home in South Boston and from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Pickel Funeral Home.
The child died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at his home. He was born Jan. 28, 1999, in Jacksonville, N.C., to Timothy Edward Stevenson and Janna Joyner Stevenson. He was grandson of the late Linda Young Joyner. His grandfather, the Rev. Joe Lynn Joyner, was pastor of Westmeade Baptist Church in Decatur from 1986 to 1997.
Survivors include his mother, formerly of Decatur and of South Boston; his father of Monterey, Calif.; his stepfather, Harvey G. Spencer Jr. of South Boston; his grandfather of Cordova, S.C.; his grandmother, Ruby Kiper of Junction, Ill.; and his grandfather, Paul Stevenson of Clarkson, Kentucky.
Jeanette Stinson
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jeanette Stinson, 74, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Victorious Life Church in Eva with the Rev. Andrew Ball and the Rev. Jerry Irwin officiating.
Burial will be in Cook Cemetery in Falkville. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
Mrs. Stinson died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Morgan County to Buford Hubbard and Hattie Tucker Hubbard. She was a homemaker, a member of Victorious Life Church and grandmother of the late Kendra Miller.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Stinson; four sons, John Stinson and Steve Stinson, both of Hartselle, Jeff Stinson of Falkville and Michael Stinson of Cullman; one daughter, Patricia Long of Falkville; one sister, Wynelle Bolin of Falkville; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Foster P. Bailey Sr.
Funeral for Foster P. Bailey Sr., 82, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Champion and the Rev. Michael Gentry officiating.
Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service.
Mr. Bailey died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Decatur to Wilbur M. Bailey and Pattie Pointer Bailey. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church and the Decatur Kiwanis Club. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired as program manager at Redstone Arsenal. He was the widower of Maggie Hulme Bailey.
Survivors include two sons, Foster P. Bailey Jr. and William Clifford Bailey, both of Decatur; one daughter, Mary Louise Woody of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will include Bill Chaffin, Jimmy Lee, David Pennington, Rusty Asble, Neal Patterson, Steve Sandlin, Bill Fite and Glynn Tubbs.

Melvin Crawford

Mr. Crawford died today, March 26, 2002, at his home. He was born March 26, 1928, in Limestone County to Wilson Crawford and Bertha Durham Crawford. He was retired from Sexton Can Co. and was the widower of Beatrice Crawford.
Survivors include one son, Bruce Crawford of Hartselle: one daughter, Doris Heath of Hartselle; one brother, Bobby Crawford of Selma; six sisters, Florence Campbell, Viva Baldwin, Gladys Griffin, Catherine Horton, Betty Wilson and Margaret Bowling, all of Selma; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
