Betty Lou Smith
Funeral for Betty Lou Smith, 65, of Hartselle was Friday, August 3, at 1:00 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Teague officiating.
Burial was in Bell Springs Cemetery near Falkville.
Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, September 1, 1999, at Falkville Healthcare Center. She was a native of Morgan County and a member of Ryan Baptist Church. She was a former restaurant manager at Decatur Inn and had attended Barnettís Chapel Pentecostal Church for several years.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Rick) M. Bennefield of Hartselle; one daughter, Linda Diane Bennefield Gow of Jackson, Miss.; one brother, the Rev. Herbert Smith of Eva; and one grandson.
Pallbearers were Doyle Osborne, Paul Teague, Gary Wright, Roy Shirah, Billy Brock, Larry Don Smith and David Smith.
Charles Edward Hill
Charles Edward Hill, 67, of Okeechobee, Fla., died Monday, August 30, 1999, at Columbia Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee. Buxton Funeral Home handled funeral arrangements.
Mr. Hill was a native of Morgan County and had been a resident of Okeechobee for 34 years. He was a member of the Okeechobee Airboat Association and the father of the late James Ray Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn E. Hill of Okeechobee; one daughter, Vicki Slaton of Okeechobee; one half-brother, Billy Alexander of Orange City, Fla.; one half-sister, Shirley Eddy of Hartselle; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Delmer Oliver Bagwell
Funeral for Delmer Oliver Bagwell, 84, of Decatur was Sunday, September 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating.
Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Bagwell died Friday, September 3, 1999, at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. He was a native of Morgan County and a retired educator after 40 years. He began his teaching career at Gum Pond Elementary School. He was a coach at Union Hill High School from 1940 to 1950. His 1950 team won Morgan County's first boys state basketball championship. He served as principal at Union Hill and Cotaco schools from 1951 to1965, and also was coordinator for federal programs in Morgan County Schools. After retirement, he worked with the Teachers Federal Credit Union. He was a member of the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame and an active member of Southside Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and a choir member on various occasions. He was the father of the late Steve Bagwell of Decatur.
He is survived by his wife, Edeleth Bagwell of Decatur; one son, Joe Bagwell of Nashville, Tenn.; four brothers, Lewis Bagwell of Birmingham, J.C. Bagwell of Fort Myers, Fla., and Leno Bagwell and Rex Bagwell, both of Arab; two sisters, Lottie Bagwell of Hot Springs, Ark., and Eloise Bagwell Cagle of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were George Nancarrow, J.D. Light, Bill Chapman, Oliver Meredith, Willard Hadley and Theo Hadley.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Southside Baptist Church and members of his former basketball teams.
Elijah Juan Fowler
A memorial service for Elijah Juan Fowler, infant, of Hartselle was Thursday, September 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Chatman officiating.
Burial was in Campground Cemetery.
The infant died Monday, August 30, 1999, at Children's Hospital in Birmingham. He was born August 20, 1999, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital in Decatur.
He is survived by his parents, Nathaniel and Diane Fowler of Hartselle; two brothers, Isaiah Leonard Fowler and William Garrett Fowler, both of Hartselle; his grandparents, William and Virgie Fowler of Massey and William and Sara Jackson of Somerville; and his great grandmother, Virginia Stroud of Buffalo, N.Y.
Elizabeth J. Moyers
A graveside service for Elizabeth J. Moyers, 60, of Decatur was Friday, September 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Amos Hood officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Moyer died Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at her residence. She was native of Lawrence County.
She is survived by one son, Tony Moyers of Decatur; one daughter, Heather Aldridge of Hartselle; two stepsons, Steve Tidwell of Pompana Beach, Fla., and David Tidwell of Harvest; one stepdaughter, Cindy Cooper of Harvest; her mother, Annie Millwood of Trinity; six brothers, Ray Millwood and Wayne Millwood, both of Moulton, Winford Millwood of Cullman, John Millwood of Michigan, and Steve Millwood and Wendell Millwood, both of Trinity; two sisters, Teresa Haggard of Hartselle and Margaret Morgan of Moulton; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Thomas, Fred Thompson, Jason Haggard, Mike Motes, Kent Beasley and Billy Pike.
Hubert (Hugh) LeeRoy Bearden
Funeral for Hubert (Hugh) LeeRoy Bearden, 81, of Priceville was Saturday, September 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Smothers officiating.
Burial was in Shoal Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Bearden died Thursday, September 2, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. He was a native of Mississippi, district manager of Brett-Pargas Co., co-owner of Decatur Realty and owner of Priceville Realty. He played an important role in the incorporation of the Town of Priceville and served on the planning council for five years. He was one of Priceville's original volunteer firemen firefighters.
He was a member of the Morgan County Board of Realtors and served six years on the State and Local Taxation and Legislative Board of Realtors. He was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church and and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a Mason, a member of American Legion Post 15 and a member of Priceville Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jeane Wren Bearden of Priceville; two daughters, Sandra B. Drinkard of Foley and Janice B. Knowles of Gladesville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Al Hughes of Decatur and Forrest E. Hughes of Bellevue, Neb.; one brother, Earl D. Bearden of Summit, Miss.; one sister, Alma B. Yarbrough of Chickasaw; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were original members of Priceville Volunteer Firemen.
Jeffrey Eugene Whitlock
Funeral for Jeffrey Eugene Whitlock, 42, of Danville was Sunday, September 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with David Phillips officiating.
Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Whitlock died Friday, September 3, 1999, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. He was a native of Madison County and was disabled and employed as a cook.
He is survived by his brother, Joey B. Whitlock of Trinity.
Pallbearers were Randy Stricklin, Buddy Stricklin, Howell Wayne Carr, Mac Hill, Tommy Mackey and Kim Mackey.
Kenneth L. Higginbotham
Funeral for Kenneth L. Higginbotham, 66, of Hartselle was Wednesday, September 8, at 3:00 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Sherril Hill and David Lett officiating.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Higginbotham died Monday, September 6, 1999, at his residence. He was a native of Limestone County and a former employee of Brach's Candy Co. in Chicago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Margret Nethery Higginbotham of Hartselle; two sons, Kenneth Lee Higginbotham of Hartselle and Daniel Raye Higginbotham of Falkville; one stepson, James Murrell Frazier of Hartselle; one daughter, Betty Juanita Niebres of Shelby Hollow, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Debbie Richard of Birmingham; four brothers, Doyce J. Higginbotham and Billy R. Higginbotham, both of Hartselle, William E. Higginbotham of Orlando, Fla., and Donald W. Higginbotham of Gibsontown, Fla.; two sisters, Bobbie N. Lee of Hartselle and Carol Counts of Florence; five grandchildren; and one step-grandson.
