Graveside service for Avery Tapscott, 73, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Ken Chambers and Mark Posey officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Tapscott died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Flint to Roy and Adell Tapscott. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of Austinville Church of Christ and a truck driver for Gordon Transport for 37 years before retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Tapscott; two sons, Roy Tapscott and A. Steven Tapscott, both of Decatur; two daughters, Susan Compton of Somerville and Tracey Jones of Athens; two sisters, Mary Meyers of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Taby Brockler of Rochester, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Austinville Church of Christ Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Fairburn, Ga. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Walton died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 2, 1920, in Chelsea to H.E. and Madie Helms Walton. He lived most of his life in Atlanta, where he retired from Eastern Airlines after 31 years as an airplane mechanic. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Somerville.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Holmes Walton; three daughters, Charlene Winslett of Tyrone, Ga., Patricia Weems of Oden Ridge and Montez Gilstrap of Hartselle; one sister, Ann Hobler of Chelsea; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Danny Henderson, Shea Henderson, Dewayne Blackmon, Walton Gilstrap, David Mooneyham and Perry Sharp.
William Alfred White Jr.

Mr. White died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at his home. He was born Dec. 11, 1940, in Decatur. A Danville High School graduate, he worked at Kroger for 18 years, 17 years as a manager, and was a deacon in the Baptist Church. He also owned and operated Al's Country General Store in Center Star from 1977 to 1992. He was a charter member of the Center Star Volunteer Fire Department, a commercial driver for Joiner Transit and a bus driver for Lauderdale County Schools. He was a member of Gideon's International and Killen Masonic Lodge No. 788.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa "Sam" White; two sons, John White of Florence and William Andrew White of Center Star; one daughter, Nancy Alisun White of Center Star; his father, William Alfred White of Hartselle; one sister, Nancy White Hagood of Decatur; two half brothers, Darrell White of Hartselle and Rodd Martin Farrell of Huntsville; one half sister, Kaytreen White Collins of Vinemont; and one grandson.
Pallbearers will be Wade Dinsmore, Ernest Swinea, James Joiner, Marlin White, Robert White, Coy White, DeWaine Gee and Eckard Walker.

Mrs. Winchester died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Decatur. She was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Franklin County to Alvin and Adrian Violet Wear Golden. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount View Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Willard F. Winchester and Anthony Dale Winchester, both of Caddo; two brothers, Woodrow Golden of Cullman and William Golden of Tyler, Texas; one sister, Lucille Flippen of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

John Wright
78, retired seaman
PROVO, Utah -- John Wright, 78, of Orem, Utah, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Valley View Hospital in Provo.
His ashes will be scattered at sea by his children and grandchildren. Walker Mortuary of Provo is handling arrangements.
Mr. Wright was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Morgan County to William Arthur Wright and Elma Juliet Holmes Wright.
He spent 47 years in the Merchant Marines, achieving the rank of second assistant engineer, and also was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He last duty station was the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq war aboard the USMS Mississinewa.
He was the widower of Doris Starke Wright and brother of the late William Price Wright, Thomas H. Wright, Oliver Wendell Holmes Wright and Helen Carlisle.
He is survived by two daughters, Glynis Wright of Orem and Taryn Wright Bradford of Salt Lake City; one brother, Edward Almon Wright of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Wright Roberts and Hope Wright Compton, both of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Alexander died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was born July 19, 1927, in Cullman County to Burl and Beulah Canady Alexander. He was employed as a crane operator at R. R. Dawson Construction and was retired from the U. S. Air Force.
Mr. Alexander is survived by his wife, Janice Haynes Alexander; one son, Kevin Alexander of Eva; three daughters, Karen Blair of Huntsville, Kathy McWhorter of LaGrange, Ga., and Kay Walker of Douglasville, Ga.; two stepsons, Tommy Smallwood and Michael Pike, both of Jasper; two stepdaughters, Nancy Smallwood and Lilly Pike, both of Jasper; one brother, Hershel Alexander of Birmingham; one sister, Sara Russell of California; and seven grandchildren.

She worked as an administrative assistant at SAIC in Huntsville and CAS Inc. in Huntsville. She also worked for the city of Athens and First Alabama Bank. She was the sister of the late Sue Burris.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald W. She is survived by her husband, William R. "Bill" Sanders of Birmingham; one daughter, Geraldine Turner Miner of Eva; two stepdaughters, Joyce Sanders of Birmingham and Billy Masters of Summerfield, Fla.; one sister, Pearl Puryear Cobb of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, James Long of Somerville and Mickey Long of Brownsboro; four daughters, Margie Cox and Shelby Pellem, both of Huntsville, Martha Johnson of Decatur and Ivaree Farley of Lacey's Spring; two brothers, Clyde Breeding of Wetumpka and Jay Breeding of Tanner; one sister, Vivian Osborne of Decatur; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
