Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Curtis C. Lowe
Funeral services for Curtis C. Lowe of Gordo were held at 2 p.m. July 17 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Homan officiating.

He was a native of Reform. He was a lifelong member of Fellowship Baptist Church, and he served during World War II. He was preceded in death by his sister Leona L. Lindsey. He died July 14 at the age of 81 at DCH Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife Corrine Lolley Lowe, Gordo; daughter Malia L. (Tim) Cunningham, Gordo; sons Michael C. Lowe, Gordo, and Timothy J. (Carie) Lowe, Tuscaloosa; sister Mildred L. Hollingsworth, Gordo; brothers Cecil (Ruth) Lowe, Jackson, Miss., Gilbert (Virginia) Lowe, Columbus, Miss. and Maurice (Lorraine) Lowe, Northport; grandchildren Warren S. Lowe and Miranda C. Lowe, both of Gordo and Heather D. Lowe, Cottondale; great-grandchildren Kimberly E. Jones, Buhl, and Cole B. Roberts, Gordo; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Warren S. Lowe, David Lolley, Shawn Lolley, Davey Lolley, Larry Leavins, Donnie Helms, Tim Cunningham and James Tilley.

Honorary pallbearers were members of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Burial was in Fellowship Baptist Church with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

James Basil Manning
Funeral services for James Basil "Jim" Manning of Hernando, Miss. were held at 10 a.m. July 20 at the chapel of Dowdle Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Shelton officiating.

He was a native of Ethelsville. He attended the old Liberty School. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the 100th Infantry Division and the European Theater. He retired after working for Alberto Culver Co. of Melrose Park, Ill. for 15 years as the District Sales Manager, and then he was an Independent Agent Sales Rep. for 25 years. He is preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. He died July 17 at the age of 78 at his residence.

Survivors include his daughters Nancy Moak, Augusta, Ga., Sandra Charlton, Brandon, Miss., Sharon Herrington, Braxton, Miss., Susan Brewer, Hernando, Miss., Rebecca Davis, Southhaven, Miss. and Sherry Burchett, Columbus, Miss.; sons David Manning, Southhaven, Miss., and Michael Manning, Hernando, Miss.; 27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ted Loftis, Rick Manning, Michael Manning, Charles Shelton, Richard Doughty, Harry Rodgers and Leroy Davis.

Honorary pallbearers were John Bailey, John Hudson, Bob Moak, Steve Charlton, Robert Moak, Chris Edgeworth, Barrett Edgeworth, Jimmy Manning, Mike Manning Jr., Robert Davis, Israel Brewer, Jesse Burchett and Justin Burchett.

Burial was in Andrews Chapel with Dowdle Funeral Home of Millport directing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries, 450 Towne Center, Ridgeland, MS 39157.

Walton Lewis Martin Jr.
Funeral services for Walton Lewis “Walt” Martin Jr. of Anniston were held at 10 a.m. July 11 at Harvest Church of God with Rev. Jerry Irwin and Rev. Don Maddox officiating.

He was born in Seymour, Ind. and was raised in Pickens County. He was a 1962 graduate of Pickens County High School. He attended Samford University, Livingston University and was a graduate of the University of Mississippi where he received a degree in pharmacy. He formerly worked with Wikle Drug and was presently employed with CVS Pharmacy. He was a member of Harvest Church of God where he served as an usher. He was preceded in death by his parents Walton and Loretta Martin and son Michael Moore. He died July 7 at the age of 58 in Anniston.

Survivors include his wife Wynell Martin, Anniston; daughter Wendy Martin (Mark) Rose, Tuscumbia; son Michael Lewis (Ramona) Martin, Lawton, Okla.; sister Doris Oden, Gordo; grandchildren Matthew Rose, Gabe Rose, Abby Rose, Steven Martin, Melissa Martin, Skyla Moore and Michael Bradley Moore.

Pallbearers were Jim Pruitt, Aaron Taylor, Barney Newsome, J. E. Ingram, Rocky Russell and Clayton Hanvey.
Burial was in West Alabama Memorial Gardens with Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Harvest Church of God Building Fund, 520 Golden Springs Road, Anniston, AL 36207.

Patty Nell Turner
Funeral services for Patty Nell Turner of Reform were held at 11 a.m. July 20 at Arbor Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Causey, Rev. Mike Owen and Rev. Barry Holland officiating.

She was a native of Pickens County. She was a member of Arbor Springs Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 32 years and leader of "Merry Hearts" senior citizens. She was a retired employee of Lamar Manufacturing with 15 years of service. She died July 17 at the age of 66 at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband Roosevelt Turner, Reform; sons Greg (Susie) Turner, Carrollton, Terry (Nancy) Turner, Gordo, and Chris Turner, Atlanta, Ga.; sisters Pauline Latham and Ruth Bell, Reform; brothers Buddy and Billy Bolling, Reform; and grandchildren Bryant Turner, Adeline Turner, Lindsey Turner and Amelia Turner.

Pallbearers were Doug Bolling, Harold Bolling, Paul Bolling, Nick Bolling, Jimmy Bell and Randy Bell. Honorary pallbearers were Arbor Springs Baptist Church "Merry Hearts" senior citizens.

Burial was in Arbor Springs Baptist Church with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Corine Elizabeth McJenkins Acker
Funeral services for Corine Elizabeth McJenkins Acker of Carrollton were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 1 at Glen Echo Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Mullenix officiating.

She was a member of Glen Echo Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh B. Acker; daughter and son-in-law, Thelma and Daniel Hill. She died July 30 at the age of 90 at Pickens County Medical Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Brinda (Joe) Jones, Carrollton; sons, Ellis (Nell) Acker, Carrollton and Glenn (Cheryl) Acker, Tuscaloosa; sisters, Pauline Harcrow and Gladys Noland, both of Carrollton and Eunice Goodman, Northport; 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Joe Acker, Robert Acker, David Acker, Howard Hill, Mike McDaniel, Scott Driver and James Acker.

Honorary pallbearers were the men of Glen Echo Freewill Baptist Church.

Burial was in Glen Echo Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Benjamin Scott Brasher
Graveside services for infant Benjamin Scott Brasher were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 5 at Mt. Moriah Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Roy Plymon officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

He died Aug. 3 at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his parents Tim and Karen Brasher, Gordo; grandparents Searcy and Cherry Mullenix, Gordo, and Elex and Ann Brasher, Gordo; great-grandparents, J. D. and Flora Shelby, Northport and Curtis and Doris Banks, Tuscaloosa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Freewill Baptist Children's Home, Eldridge, AL, c/o Mt. Moriah Freewill Baptist Church, 43 Heritage Rd., Ethelsville, AL 35461.

Buddy Johnson
Funeral services for James Henry “Buddy” Johnson of Aliceville were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 1 at West End Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Griffin and Bro. Jack House officiating.

He was a member of West End Baptist Church and a plant mechanic for Aliceville Cotton Mill. He was preceded in death by his father John Henry Johnson. He died July 29 at the age of 53 at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife Sandra Gale Johnson, Aliceville; daughters Lee Lowe and Donna Johnson, both of Montgomery, Rikkie Johnson, Carrollton, and Leah Johnson, Virginia; stepdaughter, Pam (Jerry) Morgan, Bailey, Miss.; son John Johnson, Carrollton; stepsons Rod Prisock, Safford, Ariz. and Thomas Prisock, Pearl, Miss.; two grandchildren; mother Etta Oree Johnson, Aliceville; sisters, Midget (Wayne) Jones, Enterprise, Miss., and Beth (Joe) Stewart, Aliceville; brothers, Tommy (Judy) Johnson and Ricky (Sarah) Johnson, both of Aliceville.

Pallbearers were Roy Finch, Zane Evans, James Binion, Al Stewart, Robert Earl Carroll and Wayne Hester.

Honorary pallbearers were John David Cochrane, Keith Johnson, James Crowell, Dr. Givhan, staff of the Trauma ICU and ER at DCH Regional Medical Center and the ER Staff of Pickens County Medical Center.

Burial was in Magnolia Memorial Gardens with Stabler-Robbins Funeral Home of Aliceville directing.

Johnny B. Jones
Funeral services for Johnny B. Jones of Gordo were held at 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at First Baptist Church of Gordo with Rev. Cephus Dailey officiating.

He died July 28 at the age of 70 at DCH Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife Annie L. Jones, Gordo; sons Johnny (Annie) Thomas, Gerald (Monica) Jones, Marcus (Carlotta) Jones, all of Tuscaloosa, and Johnny (Lucinda) B. Jones, Columbus, Mo.; daughters Annie Mullens, Jamaica, NY, Barbara (Larry) Guyton, Reform; Deborah Jones, Gordo, and Adrienne Jones, Birmingham; father-in-law L. G. Blalock; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers Richard (Patsy) Jones and Sam Jones, both of Gordo and David Jones, Tuscaloosa.

Burial was in Sand Hill Cemetery with Rollins' Mortuary directing.

W. M. Steele
Graveside services for William Martin "W. M." Steele of Pleasant Ridge were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 5 at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Tom Kay Sr. and Rev. Tom Kay Jr. officiating and Stabler-Robbins Funeral Home of Aliceville directing.

He attended the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn. and graduated in 1926 from Alabama Military Institute in Anniston. He attended the University of Alabama and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) where he majored in agriculture. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was elected to the Green e County Commission in 1960 and later filled an unexpired term in the Alabama Senate. He was preceded in death by his son William M. Steele Jr.; sisters Christine S. Eatman and Crooks S. Shriver; and brother James Laney Steele. He died Aug. 2 at the age of 91.

Survivors include his wife Lilliam Steele, Pleasant Ridge; daughter Patta A. Steele, Pleasant Ridge; grandsons William M. Steele III, Pleasant Ridge, and Robert Brantly Steele, Tuscaloosa; granddaughter Dr. April L. Steele, Lavonia, Ga.; great-grandsons, Will Steele, Zack Steele and Carey Steele, all of Tuscaloosa; nephew Johnny Gray, Eutaw; and niece Scarlett S. Parker, Aliceville.

Pallbearers were Gerald Tucker, Jim Park, Roscoe Harvell, Victor Poole, Dr. William E. Hill Jr., Dennis Herndon, Fletcher deGraffenreid, Paul Campbell, Sue S. Vance, John Brandon, Jerry Brandon, James Gay, Lendon McQueen, George Abrams and Chip Beeker.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palmer Home for Children in Columbus, Miss., or Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund.

Luther A. Turnipseed
Funeral services for Luther Aaron Turnipseed of Aliceville were held at 11 a.m. July 31 at Aliceville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dewayne McDuff and Rev. Leon Railey officiating.

He was a member of Aliceville First United Methodist Church. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was the owner-operator of Standard Service Station for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna Brooks Turnipseed. He died July 29 at the age of 83 at Sansing County Home.

Survivors include his daughter Barbara A. Cunningham, Ocean Springs, Miss.; sister Frances Carroll, Hurtsboro; brothers Douglas Turnipseed, Aliceville, and Lt. Col. J. D. Turnipseed, Bowling Green , Ky.; grandchildren Candace Cunningham, Ocean Springs, Miss., Cheryl Crane, Birmingham, and Teresa Smith, Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Parker and Mabry Crane, Birmingham, and Shaler Smith, Atlanta.

Pallbearers were David Turnipseed, David Turnipseed Jr., Jim Turnipseed, Richard Knox, Charlie Holliman and Edward Alston. Honorary pallbearers were Will Peebles, James Somerville, Euell Herring and Somerville Park.

Burial was in Franconia Cemetery with Stabler-Robbins Funeral Home of Aliceville directing.

Leslie Adams-Turner
Funeral services for Leslie Adams-Turner were held Jan. 21 with Elder R. C. Brown officiating and Lavender Funeral Service directing.

She was born in Ethelsville. She was a member of Shelter of Love Church of God. She died recently at the age of 37.

Survivors include her husband Samuel Turner; parents Morris and Mollie Adams; brother Morris Adams Jr., Cottondale; sisters Shervette (Terry) West, Octavia (Ravon) Taylor and Monica Adams (Leonard) McKnight, all of Eth-elsville, and Gwendolyn (Robert) Taylor, Aliceville; stepchildren Ronnie (Sharon) Foster , Samuel Alexander Turner and Christopher Cockrell, all of St. Louis, Mo., Cheryl Adams, Washington, DC, and Quintin (Pam) Turner and Sandra (Edric) Barnes, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were her family and friends.
