Letishia Vanessa Lavender Barfield
Graveside services for Letishia Vanessa (Van) Lavender Barfield of Chesterfield, Va. were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 26 at Magnolia Memorial Garden Cemetery with Rev. George E. Cain officiating and Lavender Funeral Service directing.
She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Va. where she was director of the dance team. She was a majorette for the Aliceville High School Marching Band and a Pipette for Tuskegee University's Marching Crimson Piper Band. She was an accountant with the Department of Juvenile Justice in Virginia. She created the Barfield & Company Dance Studios, and she was a member of Wright Beauty 616 Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She died Jan. 20, 2006 at the age of 37.
Survivors include her husband Johnnie Barfield; daughters Sierra and Erica Barfield; father Warren Lavender; and sister Belinda Lavender (Terry) Windham.
Pallbearers were Glasko Evans, Gregory Danye, Earnest Lambert, Gerald Stewart, Everett Cannon and Joseph Giles.

Elizabeth Brooks
Funeral services for Elizabeth Brooks of Carrollton were held Jan. 24 at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. L. W. Bonner officiating.
She was born in the Pine Hill community in Pickens County and was a seamstress. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was president of the PTA at Pickens County Training School, and she was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, president of the Pine Grove Baptist Church Usher Board and president of the Deacon Wives in Lebanon District. She was preceded in death by her husband Archie Emmett Brooks; sons Archie Jr. and James Edward Brooks; sisters Sara Evans, Lucille Stringfellow and Annie String-fellow; and brothers Tom, James and William Stringfellow Jr. She died Jan. 18, 2006 at the age of 99 at Aliceville Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include her children Doris (Willie) Barnes, Buff-alo, NY, Oliver (Edith), Ridgeville, Ala., Bennie (Geneva) and Jacqueline (Gregory) Duff, both of Carrollton, Estelle (J. W.) Richardson, Eutaw, Carolean Blackmon, Crown Point, Ind., Donald (Vivian), Montgomery, and Cynthia (Richard) Hawkins, Anderson, SC; sisters Annie Mae Lane, Omaha, Neb., Josephine McIlwain, Reform, and Allie V. (James) Moore, Birmingham; 44 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Raymond Driver
Funeral services for Raymond Driver of Aliceville were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 28 at Dogwood Chapel with Rev. Larry Potts officiating.
He was born in Tuscaloosa. He was a member of the Baptist faith and a retired employee of Aliceville Cotton Mill. He was preceded in death by his sister Mildred Blakney; brothers Henry Driver, J. B. Driver and Charles Driver; and brother-in-law W. L. Ashcraft. He died Jan. 25, 2006 at the age of 77 at Northport Medical Center.
Survivors include his sisters Eunice Ashcraft and Irene (A.J.) Heritage, both of Aliceville; sisters-in-law Annie Dora Driver, Daphne, Ala. and Dorrie B. Driver, Aliceville; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
Allen Dodson Lowe
Funeral services for Allen Dodson Lowe of Reform were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brannon Pinion officiating.
He was born in Reform. He was a retired employee at Southern Natural Gas and a life-long resident of Pickens County. He was preceded in death by his wife Florine Bishop Lowe. He died Jan. 28, 2006 at the age of 91 at his residence.
Survivors include his daughters Nell (David) Acker, Re-form, and Elaine (Jim) Nabors, Kennedy; son Harold (Sylvia) Lowe, Reform; brother Cliff (Elsie) Lowe, Carrollton; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were former employees of Southern Natural Gas, Murray McMillian, Oscar Gates, Jerry Langdon, Pete Elmore and Henry Elmore.

Berry Manning Sr.

He was born in Pickensville. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his daughter Katie Lee Prude. He died Jan. 24, 2006 at the age of 83 at Pickens County Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Louvonia; children Shirley Windom, Willie J. (Janice) Windom, Willie B. (Ann-ie) Manning, Lannie (Otis) Manning and Shirley (George) Drummond, all of Omaha, Neb., Willie Mae Lee, Atlanta, Ga., Clara Manning, Berry Manning Jr. and Bernice (LaDon) Manning, all of Carrollton, and Helen Dumas, Hartford, Conn.; grandchildren Jewell, Tony, Peter, Johnnie, Charletta, Jimmy, Sherell, Shalette, Shavette, Lasandra, Alicia, Tracy, Jermille, Emily, Sharon, Byron, Marcus and LaDon; 27 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Johnnie Mae Rogers, Maggie Coleman and Annie Lee Hudson; brother-in-law Jimmy (Millie) McGraw; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Carrollton. He was a retired employee of Aliceville Cotton Mill, attended Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church and was a life-long resident of Pickens County. He was preceded in death by his parents Tony and Maude Acker Stimac, brother John Wayne Stimac, sister Lelia Stimac, brother-in-law Dan McDaniel and uncle Joe Stimac. He died Jan. 27, 2006 at the age of 68 at Aliceville Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Rosie Stimac, Carrollton; daughters Kim (Danny) Price , Carrollton and Maxine (Thomas) Davis, Florida; son David (Bonnie) Stimac, Tuscaloosa; sisters Mary McDaniel and Melinda (Buddy) McDaniel, both of Carrollton and Pauline Ammons, Aliceville; brother Anthony (Betty) Stimac, Reform; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special friends Joe, Cindy and Forest Lewis.

James G. “Jim” Stokes

He was born in Reform. He graduated from Auburn Uni-versity where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was founder of the Reform Zoning Board and Pickens Academy. He was a member of the Reform Volunteer Fire Department, served on the board of directors of First National Bank of Central Alabama and was former owner of Depend-able Chevrolet. He was president of the Stokes Agency, a real estate agent and an active member of Reform First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his brother E. A. "Sonny" Stokes Jr. He died Jan. 22, 2006 at the age of 75 at Hospice of West Alabama.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Dabbs Stokes, Reform; son James Glenn (Jane) Stokes Jr., Reform; grandson James Glenn Stokes III, Reform; sister-in-law Katie S. Stokes, Reform; nephew Earl Alexander Stokes III; niece Pat Stokes Anderson; and cousin David (Martha) Stokes.

Charles Wayne Ashmore
Funeral services for Charles Wayne Ashmore of Reform were held at 11 a.m. April 7 at Reform First United Methodist Church with Rev. John L. Hassell Jr. officiating.
He was born in the Liberty community. He was a member of Reform First United Methodist Church where he was a former member of the Administrative Board and Board of Trustees. He was a former member and Mayor pro tem of the Reform Town Council and former Assistant Chief of the Reform Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the West Alabama Bank & Trust Board of Directors and Associated Grocers of the South where he had served on the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board. He was a graduate of Pickens County High School. He received his bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from Alabama PolyTechnical Institute (Auburn University). He succeeded his father in owning and operating Reform Mercantile Company Inc. (Ashmore's Associated Foods) for 45 years. He was preceded in death by his father William Arland Ashmore and his infant son. He died April 4, 2006 at the age of 68 at his residence.

He was born in Lebanon, Ky. He was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Columbus, Miss. and Amer-ican Legion Post #0081 in Litchfield, Ky. He was a retired machinist for Phillip Morris and a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife Jero-line Bledsoe Buckman; son William Gentleman; and sister Helen Cissell. He died April 1, 2006 at the age of 71 at Hospice of West Alabama.

Lizzie Lucile Goree

She was born in Bankston, Ala. She was a member of Garden Baptist Church and a retired employee of Westing-house. She was preceded in death by her parents Aaron M. and Cena Wyers Stough, and brothers Elbert Stough and Bruce Stough. She died April 5, 2006 at the age of 67 at DCH Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband Melvin Goree, Aliceville; daughter Deborah (Michael) Bell, Carrollton; son Ronnie Goree, Forsyth, Ga.; sister Elene Stough, Minneapolis, NC; Ray Stough, Reform; and grandsons Christopher Bell and Josh Bell.

Rev. Sidney Arthur Lanier
Funeral services for Rev. Sidney Arthur Lanier of Ethelsville were held at 10 a.m. April 10 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Farley and Rev. Sidney E. Lanier officiating.
He was born in Manifest, La. He served 27 years in the US Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. Upon his retirement in 1985, he began serving as minister at Liberty Baptist Church in Autauga County, Central Baptist Church in Elmore County and Mineral Springs Baptist Church and Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, both in Pickens County. He served in the Pickens Baptist Association as moderator, on several committees and as chief cook. He was dedicated to missions, mission trips and the Gideons. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Arthur Lanier and Gracie Mae Jackson Lanier. He died April 4, 2006 at the age of 67 at DCH Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife Ethel Lanier, Ethelsville; daughter Debbie (Allen) Rodgers, Birmingham; son Buddy (Caren) Lanier, Louisville, Ky.; sister Fannie Mae Ratcliff, Jonesville, La.; and grandchildren Cristen A.
