Funeral services for Mattie Hazel Birmingham of Gordo, were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 18 at Antioch Baptist Church.
She died Dec. 16 at Salem Nursing Home at the age of 78.
Burial was in the church cemetery with Norwood Chapel of Fayette directing.

Elizabeth Pate Hagler
Graveside services for Elizabeth Pate Hagler of Reform, were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 9 [2002] at Arbor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Royal E. Hagler. She died Jan. 2 at the age of 83 at Pickens County Medical Center.
Survivors include her son Allen Hagler, Gordo.
Fred Benjamin Carroll
Graveside services for Fred Benjamin Carroll of Jackson, Miss., were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 17 [2001] at Cedar Lawn Cemetery with Breeland Funeral Home directing.
He was a native of Clanton. He lived in Jackson, Miss. since 1952 until he moved to Clinton Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, Miss. in January 2001. He was a 1948 gradate of Aliceville High School. He become a Mason in 1953 in Aliceville. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his son Floyd Carroll. He died Sept. 13 at the age of 71 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Survivors include his sons Fred Lloyd (Rebecca) Carroll, Vicksburg, Miss., and James Boyd (Claudia) Carroll, Schotten, Germany; brothers Howard N. (Carolyn) Carroll, Preston, and Herbert W. (Betty) Carroll, Plantersville, Miss.; sister Dorothy F. (Chester) McConnell, Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; nieces Janet Carroll, Suzanne Whitney and Nina Carroll; nephews Randy Carroll and Danny Carroll; great-niece Claire Whitney; and aunts Iva Lee Ford, Jessie Mae Dykes and Esther Childers.
Otera Bonner Hester
Funeral services for Otera Bonner Hester of Reform, were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 13 [2001] at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chester Free officiating.
She was a member of Coalfire Baptist Church, a retired employee of the Wolverine Cap Factory and a lifelong resident of Pickens County. She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Webster Hester. She died Sept. 10 [2001] at the age of 91 at Salem Nursing and Rehab Center.
Survivors include her daughter Virginia Dale Hester Hall, Reform; sons Samuel Elton (Joyce) Hester, Reform, and Elmer Veigh "Pete" Hester, Albuquerque, NM; sister Lenoit McCool, Reform; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Calvin Hall, Danny Hall, David McGarity, John McGarity, Ron Herrington and Eric Hester.
Burial was in Arbor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
Cleo Manning
Funeral services for Cleo Manning of Ethelsville, were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 11 [2001] at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Myers and Rev. James Posey officiating.
He was a member of Reform Church of God, retired from production at Seminole Manufacturing Co. in Columbus, Miss. and a lifelong resident of Pickens County. He died Sept. 8 [2001] at the age of 76 at Pickens County Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife Linnie Mae Manning, McShan.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Pate, Leavern Pate, Scott Pate, Jason Bradshaw, Brent Bradshaw and Wayne Bradshaw.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Sanders, Gilbert Perrigin, Harold Heritage, Tootsie Jacobs and friends of the community.

Doris C. Melton
Private services for Doris C. Melton of Long Beach, Miss., were held recently, with burial following at Long Beach Cemetery and Riemann Funeral Home of Gulfport directing.
She was a native of Reform and was a 1951 graduate of Carrollton High School. She had lived in Long Beach since 1978. She was a librarian at the Long Beach City Library for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Coward and Mary Lee Coward. She died Sept. 6 [2001] in Gulfport at the age of 68.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Melton, Long Beach, and Gary Melton, Ladson, SC; daughter Susan Breazeale, Long Beach; four sisters, Virginia Perrigin, Reform, Vertrice Johnson, Climax Springs, Mo., Betty Oglesby, McShan, Edna Wright, Birmingham; and three grandchildren.
The family prefers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507.
Hubert Roy Mullenix
Funeral services for Hubert Roy Mullenix of Gordo, were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hershel Owen and Rev. Robert Pate officiating.
He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Gordo, a retired foreman with the Tuscaloosa County Road Department, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by an infant son James Roy Mullenix; and a brother John W. Mullenix. He died Sept. 15 [2001] at Northport Hospital-DCH at the age of 83.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Effie Mae Driver Mullenix, Gordo; one daughter Lucretia M. (James Roy) Jones, Buhl; one son Roy H. (Peggy) Mullenix, Gordo; four sisters, Ola Belle Smith and Catherine Shirley, both of Gordo, Mary E. Robinson, Mobile, and Emma J. (Tootsie) Ayers, Holt; four brothers, Floyd Mullenix, Echola, Clifton Mullenix and Searcy Mullenix, both of Gordo, and Fred Mullenix, Coker; grandchildren Tina M. Presley, Tammy M. (Bryan) Howell, Steve (Angie) Jones, Scott (Kelley) Jones, and Angela J. (Tony) Robertson; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Randall Mullenix, Kenneth Shirley, Gary Mullenix, Freddie Smith, Mike Shirley, Carl Mullenix, Harold Mullenix and Dennis Shirley.

Blanche F. Owings
Funeral services for Blanche F. Owings of Carrollton, were held at 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at Carrollton Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Trull officiating.
She was the oldest living member of Carrollton Baptist Church, where she attended for 79 years. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband William Francis Owings. She died Sept. 9 [2001] at the age of 94 at Sansing Country Home.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Robbie O. Sevier, Dottie O. Blackwell, Sally Davie and Catherine Erickson, all of Birmingham, Walter W. Curry and Winston Ferguson, both of Carrollton, Martha Langdon, Reform, William Walter Ferguson, San Juan, Cal. and Mitt Kilpatrick, Tupelo, Miss.
Pallbearers were Joe Lewis, Clayton Cox, Jr., Billy Acker, Bruce Howard, Buddy McDaniel, W. O. Kirk, Jr., Clay Sansing and Marvin Kilpatrick.

Clifton Elmore, Sr.
Funeral services for (Lewis) Clifton Elmore, Sr. of Gordo, were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Gordo First Baptist Church with Rev. Farrell Cork and Rev. Pat Powell officiating.
He was a retired employee of Southern Natural Gas, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his brother Benjamin Elmore and an infant son Joseph Elmore. He died Nov. 15 [2001] at his residence at the age of 80.
Survivors include his wife Doris Floyd Elmore, Gordo; one daughter Teresa Wilson, Gordo; two sons, Lewis (Marilyn) Elmore and Charles (Robin) Elmore, all of Gordo; two sisters, Lucille Blakeney, Gordo, and Annie Elmore, Northport; two brothers, Marvin Elmore, Gordo, and Grady Elmore, Northport; four grandchildren, Jill Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Laurel Elmore, Carly Elmore, all of Gordo; and one great-grandchild Megan Sullivan, Gordo.
Nephews served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were co-workers of Southern Natural Gas of Reform, Dr. William Hill, Dr. John Brandon and Hospice of West Alabama.
Burial was in the Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home directing.

Albert Harris
Funeral services for Albert Harris of Lewiston, were held at 11 a.m. Nov. 10 at Sarepta Primitive Baptist Church in Lewiston, with Elder Andrew Chamber officiating.
He was a native of Lewiston. He was a member and deacon of New Sarepta Primitive Baptist Church and a member of Morrow Grove Lodge No. 800. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Harris and Essie P. Thompson; four brothers, Edmond Harris, James O. Harris, Nathan Harris and Jack Harris; and two sons, Virgil Rice and Druid Rice. He died Nov. 5 [2001] at the age of 83.
Survivors include his wife Minerva A. Harris; five sons, Albert, Jr. (Sara) Harris, Tampa, Fla., Elbert (Rita) Harris, Brewster (Angela), both of Tuscaloosa, Charlie (Fannie) Harris, Atlanta, Ga., Eddie (Dorothy) Harris, Hal (Towanna) Harris, and Edmon Harris, all of Aliceville; eight daughters, Charlie B. Ware, New York, Pauline (Johnny) Hughes, Eutaw, Wauline Harris, Chicago, Ill., Annie J. Hudson, Albany, Ga., Grace (Ira) White, Mary Wilder, Opelia (Earnest) Summerville, and Wanda Harris, all of Aliceville, Alma (Lester) Wright, Virginia; one raised as his daughter, Tina Harris, Aliceville; two brothers, Charlie Harris and Herbert Harris, Buffalo, NY; three sisters, Mary Wilder, Eutaw, Louisa Bailey and Bertha Cornist, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; 50 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
