Nevel McKinzey
Graveside services for Nevel Isbell McKinzey of Aliceville, were held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8 [2002] at Magnolia Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Parker officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
A memorial service followed at 11 a.m. at Aliceville First United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Aliceville First United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and served on various church committees.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.R. McKinzey, Jr.
She died Jan. 5 [2002] at the age of 87 at her residence.
Survivors include her sons, James A. "Jim" (Shirley) McKinzey, Tampa, Fla. and W.R. "Billy" (Johnie) McKinzey, Jr. and Don P. (Marie) McKinzey, both of Aliceville; sisters, Margaret I. Shipp, Boaz, Jo Bevis, Dothan, and Billie H. Welch, Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother, Tom P. Isbell, Huntsville; six grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.
Pallbearers were nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aliceville First United Methodist Church, Hospice of West Alabama or the American Cancer Society.

Johnny W. Prude
Funeral services for Johnny W. Prude of Carrollton, were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 10 [2002] at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Kennedy Kirkland officiating.
He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Lee Prude and his parents. He died Jan. 4 [2002] at the age of 55 at Pickens County Medical Center.
Survivors include his devoted companion, Lydia Wilder; daughters, Johnnie (Robert) Byrd, Jr. and Leola Wilder, both of Gordo; son, Jimmy Prude, Carrollton; sister, Evelyn Joyce Benton, Buffalo, NY; uncle, I.V. (Annie) Prude, Carrollton; grandchildren, Jimeshia and Jasmine Clark, Aliceville; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were friends and relatives.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Noland Lumber Company.
Burial was in Community Cemetery with Lavender Funeral Service directing.

Castella Sherrod
Funeral services for Castella Evyonne Sherrod of Ethelsville were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 8 [2002] at St. John Baptist Church with Rev. David Simpson officiating.
She was a member of St. John Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for the church and the St. John Missionary Society.
She often provided the summary for the women's Sunday school class, and she was a member of the Ester Prayer Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Sherrod; children, Joseph and Alvenia; and brothers, Theodore and Otis.
She died Jan. 3 [2002] at the age of 68.
Survivors include her daughters, Rita Faye Sherrod, Wichita, Kan., Jacqueline Ree Taylor and Mary Ann Sherrod, both of Pickensville; sons, Ezelle Sherrod, Edward Sherrod and Robert Laderick Taylor, all of Pickensville and James (Pat) Farmer, Cleveland, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Annie Steen Halcomb, Detroit, Mich., Thressa (Aaron) Harton and Fannie Mae (Daniel) Harton, both of Wichita, Kan. and Luvenue (William) Sherrod, Pickensville; brothers Lee Richardson and Joe (Olivia) Richardson, both of Detroit, Mich., and Arthur (Sylvia) Richardson, Ethelsville; sisters-in-law Mary Alma Richardson, Almarie Richardson and Georgia Mae Richardson; brothers-in-law Clarence (Sally) Sherrod Jr., Aliceville, Franklin Sherrod and Willie Sherrod, both of Pickensville; special friends, Betty Sherrod, Fannie B. Dixon and Billie Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Cedric Gardner, Dean Sherrod, Robert Taylor, Henry Taggart, Michael Sherrod and Willie Sherrod.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of St. John Baptist Church.
Burial was in St. John Baptist Church Cemetery with Lavender Funeral Service directing.

Myria Spencer
Funeral services for Myria Spencer of Reform, were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 20 at Popular Springs AME Church in Reform.
She died Dec. 14 [2001] at Pickens County Medical Center at the age of 81.
Burial was in Popular Springs Cemetery with Reform Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Dot Watson
Funeral services for Dorothy (Dot) Watson of Kennedy, were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 13 [2002] at the Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Elmore officiating.
She was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Palmetto community.
She died Jan. 11 [2002] at her residence at the age of 80.
Survivors include her husband, John Watson, Kennedy; one daughter, Dorothy Faye (Don) Gardner, Haleyville; one son, John Kenneth Holliman, Kennedy; one sister, Elsie Ruth (Samuel D.) Spencer, Kennedy; Wanda (Randy) Hicks, Haleyville, Millie (Mike) Elkins, Laurel, Miss., Melinda (Melvin) Stillman, McCombs, Miss., Ronnie Holliman, Montgomery, John David Holiman, Atlanta, Ga., Frank Bonner and Jeff (Karen) Bonner, both of Haleyville, and Kenny (Ginger) Holliman, Kennedy; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Grandsons and grandsons-in-law served as pallbearers.
Burial was in Unity Grove Methodist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Sam H. Brown
Funeral services for Sam H. Brown of Gordo, were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 25 at Gordo First Baptist Church with Rev. Marc Howard, Rev. Eddie Rogers and Rev. Ed Vaughn officiating.
He was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church and a retired police officer for the Gordo Police Department.
He was preceded in death by his son Larry Wayne Boyd; four brothers; and one sister.
He died Feb. 22 [2002] at the age of 89 at Salem Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Cordie Elmore Brown, Gordo; sons Joe (Carol) Brown, Gordo, and Rev. James S. Boyd, Tuscaloosa; grandsons Sammy L. Brown and Jamie (Naomi) Lance Brown; and great-granddaughters Shayla Brown and Cierra Brown.
Pallbearers were Kevin Kelly, Larry Sanders, Roy Mullenix, Jason Mullenix, Olen Clay, Rayford Fife, Sean Tierce and Robbie Richardson.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John Brandon, Dr. Mark Ricketts, employees of DCH 4th Floor South, employees of Salem Rehab and Nursing Home, Debbie Driver and Debbie Farley, members of Capstone Quartet, members of Men's Adult Sunday School Class at Gordo First Baptist Church, faculty and staff of Lakeside Center, employees of Brown's Custom Carpentry and Woodworks, Narramore Construction Co., patrons of Gordo Barber Shop and friends and neighbors of the Gordo area.
Burial was in Pleasant Grove "Bump" Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Wilda Vail Dawkins
Funeral services for Wilda Vail Dawkins of Columbus, Miss., were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at Springhill Baptist Church with Bro. Chester Shaw officiating.
She was a native of Lamar County.
She worked at American Bosch for a number of years before retiring.
She was a homemaker and a member of Springhill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Eddy Dawkins; brothers Lewis Hill Vail, Morris Vail, Wilford Vail and James Vail.
She died Feb. 20 [2002] at the age of 82.
Survivors include her daughter Joyce (Newt) Young, Millport; son Billy (Edward (Eva) Dawkins Sr., Elberta, Ala.; brothers Billy Grafton (Virginia) Vail, Starkville, Miss. and Bobby (Dean) Vail, Millport; grandchildren Vickie (Greg) Langley, Robbin (Keith) Richards and Billy Edward (Sherry) Dawkins Jr., all of Columbus, Miss., Floyd Patterson and Cody Patterson, Millport, and Bonita (Ted) Dempsey, San Diego, Cal.; and great-grandchildren Amanda (Michael) Britt, Mikki Dawkins, Dalton Richards and Brandy Richards.
Pallbearers were Jerry Blakeney, Mike Vail, Timmy Vail, Kenneth Vail, David Shaw, Hurley Sims, Ray Hancock and Earl Shaw.
Honorary pallbearer was Dr. Jerry Turner.
Burial was in Springhill Cemetery with Dowdle Funeral Home of Millport directing.

Myrtle Key Falls
Funeral services for Myrtle Key Falls of Tuscaloosa, were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert M. Causey officiating.
She was a member of the Arbor Springs Baptist Church in Samantha, and a retired store manager for J. C. Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Olen Falls; son William Avery Falls; grandsons William Ross McDaniel and Richard Lynn McDaniel; and sons-in-law Jim Fullerton and James Kizziah.
She died Feb. 20 [2002] at the age of 83 at Salem Nursing Home.
Survivors include her daughters Bonnie (Wilford) Kyles and Faye (Ray) McDaniel, both of Reform, Maye (Jack) Kizziah, Kaye (Nathan) Walker and Sheila (Dane) Dickey, all of Tuscaloosa.; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers were Salem Nursing Home staff, Dr. Lee Richardson and staff and Pickens County Medical Center staff.
Burial was in Arbor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Samantha with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Gracie Alma Harless
Funeral services for Gracie Alma Harless of Gordo, were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at Hargrove United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Blankenship officiating.
She was the oldest living member of Hargrove United Methodist Church, a homemaker and a life-long resident of Pickens County.
She was preceded in death by her husband Emmett V. Harless; daughter Edith Hall; infant son William Harrison Harless; and grandsons Derriel Boatman and infant Baby Boy Hall.
She died Feb. 21 [2002] at the age of 100 at Heritage Health Care Center.
Survivors include her daughters Ann Boatman, Oxford, Sue (Stillman) Fair, Gordo, and Nell (Al) Amador, Guntersville; son Emmett (Betty) Harless, Tuscaloosa; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Burial was in the Hargrove First United Methodist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Horace Hurst
Funeral services for Horace Hurst were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at Galilee Baptist Church in Panola, with Rev. Jimmie Ellis Jr. officiating.
He was a native of Scooba, Miss. He was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church of Scooba and was affiliated with the Masonic lodge as a third-degree master mason.
He was preceded in death by an infant child; daughter Annie Hurst-Davis; five brothers; and two sisters.
He died Feb. 15 [2002] at the age of 90 at Pickens County Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Annie Mae Coleman Hurst, Panola; sons Jessie Parham, Jimmy L. Hurst and Roy D. Hurst, all of Geiger, and Bobby Hurst, Aliceville; daughters Maggie L. Hurst, Margaret Hurst, Addie Hurst-Laitenen, Sarah Hurst, Pennie Hurst, Cherry A. Hurst-Conner, Carol Hurst-Wells and Kim Hurst; 30 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were sons, grandsons, nephews and community friends.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Pickens County Medical Center.
Burial was in Galilee Cemetery with Lavender Funeral Service directing.
