Ardelia Lawson
Funeral services for Ardelia (Richey) Lawson of Carrollton were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. David Johnson officiating.

She was a native of the Bigbee community. She was educated in the Pickens County School System. She was a member of the Larks Beauty No. 420 OES. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, and served in the Senior Choir and Mission Society. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lawson, daughters Marion and Minnie Richey Duncan, and brothers, Rosevelt Richey and Lofton Duncan Sr.; and one sister Callie (Duncan) Davis. She died recently at the age of 88.

Survivors include her son John Robert Lawson, Carrollton; her sister’s six children, Simon Davis Jr. Russellville, Willie Floyd Davis, Bronx, NY, James Davis and Ruby Barnes, both of New York NY, Robert Davis, Los Angeles, Cal., and Betty Davis, Carrollton; one grandson Robert T. Lawson, St. Charles, La.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Spruill Cemetery with Lavender Funeral Service directing.

Hazel Blythe McCafferty
Graveside services for Hazel Blythe McCafferty of Reform were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 23 at Graham Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Brannon Pinion officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

She was a retired employee of Westinghouse and a lifelong resident of Pickens County. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne McCafferty and daughter Gloria (Doe) Cooper. She died Feb. 18 at Pickens County Medical Center at the age of 84.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy McCafferty, Reform, and Anne Sauceda, Niceville, Fla.; two sisters, Marion Hayes and Joretta Wann; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

J. B. Pike
Funeral services for J. B. Pike of Gordo were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 19 at the Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating.

He was a retired nursing assistant with the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, with 32 years of service. He was a member of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army with which he served during World War II. He died Feb. 17 at his residence at the age of 76.

Survivors include his wife Ola Murl Pike, Gordo; two sons, Jerry (Sandra) Pike, Northport, and Danny (Adonica) Pike, Douglasville, Ga.; two sisters, Ruth Falls, Northport, and Juanita (Buddy) Collier, Gordo; one brother Doris Pike, Talladega; four grandchildren, Jeremy Pike, Joey Pike, Kaleigh Pike and Allison Pike.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Holder, Jimmy Latham, Junior Burns, Mark Burns, Kenny Pike and Robert Lee.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John Brandon and staff, Dr. William A. Hill and staff, Vicki, Jamie and April Latham, Virgil and Louise Whitten, Ricky and Olivia Bates, Milton and Murlene Harcrow, and the coffee drinkers of Jacks.

Burial was in Arbor Springs Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home directing.

Louise Smilie Robison
Louise Smilie Robison of Florence, Ala. died at the age of 88 on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, after a short illness.

Born in rural Montgomery County, Ala., to Andrew Jackson and Daisy Wright Smilie on June 18, 1913, Mrs. Robison was a state champion high school varsity basketball player who earned a B.S. degree in home economics at Auburn University in 1935. She then served as the Pickens County Home Demonstration Agent in Carrollton, Ala. where she met her future husband, Sam H. Robison, on the local tennis court. They married in 1941 during the Thanksgiving holidays.

The popular and energetic Miss Smilie, as she was known, was instrumental in founding the Carrollton Garden Club and taught mattress making, canning, and other essential domestic skills to farm wives in the almost inaccessible rural areas of the county. She also worked with Four H Club members and other young people on agricultural and home projects.

After moving to Florence with her husband and two daughters in 1954, Mrs. Robison taught science at Florence Junior High School for 20 years (19551975). Known as a good disciplinarian with a sense of humor, she was one of the first teachers in the Fifties to use television in the classroom and to employ scientists as guest speakers to engage the interest of her students and expand the curriculum. A devoted wife and mother and beloved friend, Mrs. Robison was an avid gardener and nature enthusiast who was known for her pecanpacked oatmeal cookies and divinity candy.

Mrs. Robison was preceded in death by her attorney husband (of Mitchell, Poellnitz, Cox and Robison); parents; sisters Jewell S. Brooks (husband Tyler), Margaret S. Holley (Allison), and Delle S. Harris (Gaston); brothers Wright and Elgin Smilie; sisterinlaw Frances R. Summerville (Frank); brothersinlaw Blanchard Gaillard (B.G.) and J. Marshall Robison; and niece Patsy R. Smilie.

She is survived by daughters Mary Louise Robison of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Virginia Hill Robison Hance of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Gillis J. Smilie (wife Sallie Lou), Grady, Ala.; sistersinlaw Virginia R. Creighton (John), Sarasota, Lois C. Robison (the late B. Gaillard), Carrollton, and Hilda Smilie (the late Elgin), Montgomery; nieces Elizabeth C. Bumpus (Peter), Sarasota, Frances C. Coates (Marvin), Winston Salem, NC, Iris L. Colvin, Carrollton, and Smilie H. Faust (Bob), Gotha, Fla; nephews, Ira B. and Ronald (Ronny) Colvin, Carrollton, Gaston C. (Butch) Harris (Sydney), Spartanburg, SC, A. Jehu (Hugh) Holley (Martha), Eclectic, Ala., and Jackson L. (Jack) Smilie, Grady; a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of dear, dear friends, neighbors and former students who contributed greatly to her life, comfort and joy, especially in her later years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence.
A graveside service, the Rev. Irving G. Rudolph, Florence, officiating, was held at Green brier Cemetery in Carrollton, on Friday, Feb. 15, at 11:30 a.m. A lovingly prepared, abundant and delicious lunch followed at the Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to your favorite charity. Elkins Funeral Home, Florence, assisted the family.

Billy Seymer
Funeral services for William (Billy) Lee Seymer of Aliceville were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rodney Hedrick officiating.

He was a native of Pickens County. He was a retired truck driver for William H. McDaniel Trucking. He died Feb. 19 at his residence at the age of 71.

Survivors include his wife Vivian R. Seymer, Aliceville; stepdaughter Bonnie M. Clark, Aliceville; stepsons James Michael McCafferty, Huntsville, and Johnny Frank McCafferty, Fayette; three sisters, Lucille Dean, Mobile, Tilley Smith, McNeil, Ark., and Margaret Hix, South Carolina; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Shane Clark, Tony Clark, Mitchell Clark, Eugene Clark, William Nance and William H. McDaniel.
Honorary pallbearers were the domino players from the domino hall and Rev. Wayne Dean.

Burial was in Magnolia Memorial Gardens in Aliceville with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Clyde Donald Smith Sr.
Graveside services for Clyde Donald Smith Sr. of Gordo were held at 3 p.m. Feb. 20 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Rev. Jimmy Robertson officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

He was a member of Holy Ghost Temple in Tuscaloosa, a mechanic employed by S.T. Bunn Construction Co. and a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Andrew and Mary Myrdist Holton Smith and his brother Henry Douglas Smith. He died Feb. 17 at his residence at the age of 60.

Survivors include two daughters, Shawna Louise Smith and Sheila Michelle Smith, both of Gordo; five sons, Clyde Donald Smith Jr., Gordo, Clarence Andrew Smith, Northport, Charles Lee Smith, Aliceville, Robert Douglas Smith, Coaling, and Christopher Daniel Smith, Northport; three brothers, Raymond Gordon Smith and Bobby Andrew Smith, both of Duncanville, and James Winslow Smith, Tuscaloosa; three grandchildren, Chase O’Ryan Smith, Amaya Alexandria Smith and Aaliyah Juanita Smith.

Pallbearers were Mike Luker, Troy McGee, Vince Parker, Anthony Smith, Cliff Pruitt, James Vice, Jay Smith and Jim Hallmon.

Jackie Lynn Adcock Thomas
Funeral services for Jackie Lynn Adcock Thomas of Haleyville were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Family Worship Center in Aliceville with Rev. Rodney Hedrick officiating.

She was born in Mississippi. She attended the Church of God Revival Center in Haleyville. She died Feb. 20 at Baptist Medical CenterPrinceton in Birmingham at the age of 41.

Survivors include her husband Therian Thomas, Haleyville; one daughter Mary Victoria Thomas, Haleyville; one sister Teresa Dunlap, Laurel, Miss.; four brothers, Raymond Konshak, Horn Lake, Miss., Billy Konshak, Carrollton, Bobby Adcock, Tuscaloosa, and Jim Adcock, Aliceville; parents James and Mary Adcock, Aliceville; nine nieces, one nephew; four greatnephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

Pallbearers were Carl Schalow, Tom Payne, Ron Payne, Robert Ballenger, Pete Culberson and Buddy Culberson.

Burial was in FranconiaOak Grove Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Aaron Lee Troupe
Funeral services for Aaron Lee Troupe of Chicago, Ill. were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at Mt. Calvary M.B. Church with Rev. Christopher Williams officiating.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mable and Aaron Troupe Sr., and his sister Johnnie Hill. He died Feb. 10 at Trinity Hospital at the age of 63.

Survivors include his companion Jerlonda Jackson, Chicago, Ill., two daughters, Linda Gail White, Meridian, Miss., and Sharita Troupe, Chicago, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Beverly White and Angie Jackson, both of Chicago; two stepsons, LeRoy White, Chicago, and Joseph White, Panola; two brothers, Tommy (Lola) Troupe, Chicago, and Ray (Sharon) Troupe, Bellwood, Ill.; seven sisters, Ida Lucas, Long Beach, NY, Sarrah Troupe, Carrollton, Lillie (Tommy) Wilkins, Tuscaloosa, Jimmie McCaa, Bellwood, Ill., Itell Linson, Birmingham, Sarah (Ricky) Williams, Aliceville, and Mary Jean, Florida; motherinlaw Willie Mae McDowell, Chicago; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were James E. Smith, Fred McGee, Tony Windham, Willie Colvin, Albert Williams and Eddie Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Alton Childs, Ray Troupe, Paul Richardson, Henry Childs, Tommy Troupe and Joseph White.

Burial was in Mt. Hebron Cemetery with Lavender Funeral Service directing.

Betty Washington
Funeral services for Betty Washington of Reform were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at Poplar Springs CME Church.

She died Feb. 17 at Pickens County Medical Center at the age of 38.

Burial was in the church cemetery; Reform Memorial Funeral Home directed.

Jimmy Daniel Allen
Graveside services for Jimmy Daniel Allen of Aliceville were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 4 at Magnolia Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mike Griffin and Rev. Jim Cooley officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

He was a native of Pickens County. He was a member of the Baptist faith, a former dispatcher for Gundlock Heating and Cooling in Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by his father Columbus Allen. He died Feb. 1 at Aliceville Manor Nursing Home at the age of 59.

Survivors include his mother Bessie Allen Mansfield, Aliceville; sister Sharlotte (Phillip) Fitch, Aliceville; four brothers, Larry (Jane) Allen, Opelika, Alton (Nancy) Allen, Middleton, Md., Max (Linda) Allen, Aliceville, and Harold (Schere) Allen, Round Rock, Tex.; 13 nieces and nephews; special nephew April Box; and special nephew Phil Fitch.

Pallbearers were Ted Ezelle, Phil Fitch, Jimmy Craft, Jimmy Earl Fikes, Steward Allen and Richard Brownlee.

Elizabeth Potts Basinger
Graveside services for Elizabeth “Tootsie” Potts Basinger of Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke, Ala. and formerly of Aliceville were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 3 at FranconiaOak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Larry Potts officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

She was a longtime resident of Aliceville and a member of the Aliceville First Baptist Church. She was former owner and operator of Potts 5 and 10 Cent Store and Independent Oil Co. of Aliceville. She was preceded in death by her husband Hunter Basinger and brother A.B. Potts, both of Aliceville. She died Feb. 2 at East Alabama Medical Center at the age of 77.

Survivors include her son Pat (Susan) Salatto Jr., Roanoke; sisterinlaw Ruth Drain Potts, Northport; three grandchildren, Trey Salatto, John Elliott and Jennifer Elliott; and one great-grandson Slade Patrick Salatto.; and nephews Larry Potts and Bobby Potts.

Ruth Harris
Funeral services for Ruth Harris of Reform were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 27 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with Reform Memorial Funeral Home directing.

She died Jan. 21 at Pickens County Medical Center at the age of 72.

Ed Jones
Funeral services for Ed Jones of Reform were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 30 at the First United Methodist Church in Reform.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was selfemployed as a contractor for 25 years. He retired from the University of Alabama after serving for 10 years as a Supervisor of Maintenance. He was a pilot by hobby. He died Jan. 29 at DCH in Tuscaloosa at the age of 82.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rachel Jones, Reform; daughter Becky Jones (Kevin) Henderson, Tuscaloosa; son Mike Jones, Las Vegas, Nev.; brother Bruce Jones, Tuscaloosa; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Orman Atkins, Ray McCrary, Bobby McDaniel, O’Neal “PeeWee” Sparks, Dempsey Mayo and Johnny McCrary.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Forest Manor Nursing Home in Tuscaloosa.

Burial was in Kennedy City Cemetery with Dowdle Funeral Home directing.
