Edna Mae Nunley

Brewton

Ms. Edna Mae Nunley, 95, died Sunday, April 25, 2004. She was a native of Repton and had lived in Brewton since 1933. She was a member of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church and had been a resident of Westgate Village Nursing Home at the time of her death.

She is survived by three sons, Donnie Nunley of Brewton, Gillis Monroe of Longbeach, Calif. and Harold Nunley of Wichita Falls, Texas; one daughter, Mary Catherine Mohead of Oakland, Calif.; two brothers, Curtis Nunley and Gus Nunley, both of Oakland, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren and many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. S.C. Tucker officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

Dean Wilson Jarrell

Bay Minette

Mr. Dean Wilson Jarrell, 87, died Friday, April 30, 2004 at a Mobile hospital. He was a native of Little River and a resident of Bay Minette for the past 50 years. He attended Horseneck Fork Holiness Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Jarrell of Bay Minette; three sons, Larry Jarrell and Tony Jarrell, both of Bay Minette and Bobby Jarrell of Appleton; a daughter, Jeannine Wilson of Bay Minette; a brother, Herman Jarrell of Little River; two sisters, Ruby Mae Phillips of Chatom and Bobbie Leigh Jarrell of Montgomery; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at the Semirah Springs Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Leo Luker officiating. Burial with military honors and pallbearers followed at Semirah Springs Cemetery with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home of Atmore directing.

Pearl B. Tolbert

Evergreen

Mrs. Pearl B. Tolbert, 83, died Saturday, May 1, 2004 at her residence in Evergreen. She was a native of Conecuh County and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by two daughters, Sybil Lee Parrish of Brewton and Peggy White of Montgomery; 17 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen with Rev. Ken May and Rev. Jack Williamson officiating. Burial followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen with Cope Funeral Home directing.

John Lee Anthony

Brewton

Mr. John Lee Anthony, 71, of Jay Road, died Saturday, May 8, 2004 at a local nursing facility after an extended illness. He was a native of Evergreen and a former resident of Jay, Fla. before moving to Brewton in 1977. He was retired from Herrington Logging Company and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Tillery.

He is survived by three sons, John Anthony Jr. and Chris Anthony both of Green ville and Kenny Anthony of Jay; three daughters, Brenda Clark and April Langford, both of Green ville and Carol Black of LaPine, Ala.; three brothers, Robert Anthony and Bud Anthony, both of East Brewton and Bill Anthony of Pensacola; two sisters, Bonnie Hoomes of Pensacola and Billy Jean Rooney of Texas; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and special friends Liz and Clifford Moye of East Brewton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 11, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Brister officiating. Burial followed at Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Douglas McArthur "Mack" Evans

Brewton

Mr. Douglas McArthur "Mack" Evans, 63, died Sunday, May 9, 2004 in an Evergreen hospital. He was a native and life-long resident of Escambia County, Ala. He was a construction worker by trade.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Evans of Brewton; a son, Douglas "Dink" Evans of Flomaton; two daughters, Gloria Green and Maxine Vorpahl, both of Flomaton; one brother, Gary Evans of Atmore; two sisters, Darlene Strength of Flomaton and Sarah Stewart of Atmore and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12, at 2 p.m. at the chapel at Craver's Funeral Home with Rev. Homer Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Rigby-Mize Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Quinn Hendrix, Jason Windham, Josh Smith, Jerry Harris, Dean Brown and Mark Brittingham.

Betty Jean Hammac

Navarre, Fla.

Mrs. Betty Jean Hammac, 71, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at her Navarre residence. She was a native of Brewton and had been a resident of Navarre for the past 17 years coming from Fort Walton, Fla. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a son, Eniss Darrel Hammac; two daughters, Diann Hammac Hickman and Jackie Lynn Hammac Wentz; one sister, Lillie Mae Estes; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 19, at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Hammac officiating and Craver's Funeral Home directing. It was her wish to be cremated.

Maggie Marie Gardner Brooks

Enville, Tenn.

Mrs. Maggie Marie Gardner Brooks, 63, of Enville, Tenn. died Saturday, May 15, 2004 after an extended illness. She was a native of Elberta and a former resident of Brewton and Montgomery before moving to Tennessee in 2003. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a son, Charles Kostalike of Schaumburg, Ill.; three daughters, Loretta Gail Wood and Charlene Brooks Peterson, both of Montgomery and Vickie Kilberland of Adamsville, Tenn.; four brothers, Lewis Gardner of Killean, Texas, Joseph Gardner of Adamsville, Tenn., Steve Gardner of Chicago, Ill. and David Gardner of Montgomery; two sisters, Mary Givens of Enville, Tenn. and Martha Ward of Chicago, Ill.;15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19, at 1 p.m. at Williams Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Fitts officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Janie Grimes Johnson

Century, Fla.

Ms. Janie Grimes Johnson, 57, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at a Florida hospital. She was a native of and a resident of Century for the past 39 years. She attended First Baptist Church of Century and was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Grimes and a grandson.

She is survived by her son, Rodney Grimes of Byrneville, Fla.; her daughter, Erica Findley of Byrneville; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick Salter officiating. Burial followed at Poplar Dell Cemetery with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Margaret Ann Henry

McKenzie

Mrs. Margaret Ann Henry, 43, a resident of McKenzie, died Monday, May 17, 2004 in a Birmingham hospital.

She was survived by her husband, Mike Henry of McKenzie; a son, Michael Paul Henry of McKenzie; a sister, Robin Lindsley of Mobile; three brothers, George South and Rickie South, both of Mobile and Tommy South of New Orleans, La. and a granddaughter.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alvin Blackburn and Rev. Dale Morris officiating. Burial followed at South Butler Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of

Mary Lou Hattaway Boyette

Pace, Fla.

Mrs. Mary Lou Hattaway Boyette, 97, of Pace died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Opp and a former resident of Bradley before she moved to Pace. She attended Bradley Assembly of God Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William N. Boyette and her son-in-law, Billy Dowdy.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Boyette of Pensacola, Fla.; three daughters, Mary Bender and Anita Boyette, both of Pace and Minnie Dowdy of Bradley; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 25, at 1 p.m. at Bradley Assembly of God Church with Rev. Thomas Earl Elliott officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Christopher Douglas Mathews

Brewton

Mr. Christopher Douglas Mathews, 20, died suddenly Friday, May 21, 2004 at his residence. He was a native of Lake City, Fla., a former resident of California and a long time resident of Brewton. He was a student at Reid State Technical College. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Christeen Mathews.

He is survived by his father, Doug Mathews of Brewton; his mother, Larraine Mathews of Silver City, N.M.; a brother, Stephen Michael Mathews of Brewton; a great-aunt, Marie Faircloth of Brewton; two great-uncles, Clifton Hammac of Brewton and David Hammac of Loxley; several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Elder Wayne Morris and Rev. Benny Snider officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Jodie James Harris Jr.

Brewton

Mr. Jodie James Harris Jr., 75, died Monday, May 24, 2004. He was a native of Brewton, retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and worked at Jefferson-Smurfit Container.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Harris, his children, Scottie Ray Hardy, Jody Francine Brandon, Wayne Harris and Lillie Ruth Pitts; a brother, John Harris; a sister, Gloria Bosley; his mother-in-law, Ceola Lyons; three brothers-in-law, Glen Mallard, Willie Lyons and Alvin Arnold; two sisters-in-law, Alice Lyons and Carla Mallard; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a dear friend, Robert Hardy.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at Presley-Fluker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Brown officiating. Burial followed at Old Spring Hill Cemetery in East Brewton with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

Allen Dewayne Piland

Andalusia

Allen Dewayne Piland, 3, died Friday, May 28, 2004 in a Pensacola hospital.

He is survived by his mother, Leisha Piland of Andalusia; his father, Joseph Lamar Burkett of Brewton; his grandparents, Lisa Price and Alan Piland, both of Andalusia and Thersa Beth McGowin of Brewton; step-grandparent, Larry McGowin of Brewton; his great-grandparents, Robert and Mary Harrison and Becky Bolling, all of Andalusia, C.W. and Dian Moye and Julia C. Fleming, all of Brewton; aunts, Tonya Piland and Tina Reeves and uncles, Garrett Walker and Kevin McGowin.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Keahey Funeral Home in Andalusia.

Ella Ree Taylor Smith

Flomaton

Mrs. Ella Ree Taylor Smith, 72, of Flomaton died Saturday, May 29, 2004 in a local hospital after an extended illness. She was a native of Silas, Ala. and a life-long resident of Brewton. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Gail Marie Williams of Flomaton; a brother, Chris Taylor of Irvington; two sisters, Midgie Smith of Warrior and Dorothy Dickens of Irvington; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Funeral Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Greer officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Lillie Ruth Henley DeBusk

Wing, Alabama

Mrs. Lillie Ruth Henley DeBusk, 79 of the Bradley community died Monday, June 7, 2004 at an Andalusia hospital after an extended illness. She was a native of Falco, Ala. and a former resident of Huntsville, Mo. before moving to Wing in 1993. She was a retired bookkeeper and had served in the U. S. Air Force. She was a member of the Bradley Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by three brothers, Wilmer Henley of Brewton, John L. Henley of Tomey and Dan M. Henley of Pine Level; two sisters, Vondelle Bergschneider of Crestview, Fla. and Daisy Belle Catoe of Milton, Fla.; special friends, Glenn and Helen Coxwell and Onnice Coxwell and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bradley Assembly of God Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 9, at 3 p.m. at the Bradley Assembly of God Church with Rev. Boyce Teas officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Bradley Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
