Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pea River Presbyterian Church in Clio with the Rev. James Pitts and the Rev. Ray Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Pea River Cemetery with Holman-Abbeville Mortuary directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the mortuary in Abbeville. The family will also receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the Pea River Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Annie Lou Portwood of Portwood Circle in Ariton died Monday morning, Dec. 2, 2002, in Ozark Nursing Facility in Ozark following a long illness. She was 85. Funeral arrangements may be obtained by calling Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark, 774-4551.

Clara Agnes Blaum Roberts, a former resident of Dothan, died Dec. 3, 2002, in Fairhope, Ala., following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Dothan with Byrd Funeral Home directing. Complete arrangements will be announced by Byrd Funeral Home of Dothan, 793-3003.

Murrelle Mathis Smith, a resident of Dothan Road in Abbeville, died early Monday evening, Dec. 2, 2002, in a Dothan hospital after an extended illness. She was 81. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Abbeville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Kelly and the Rev. Jimmie R. Spikes officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Gardens of Memory with Holman-Abbeville Mortuary directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the mortuary in Abbeville. Mr. Junior L. Ward of Woodstock, Ga., died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Nassau, Bahamas. He was 67. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Westside United Methodist Church in Geneva, with the Rev. Teddy Ward and the Rev. Jack Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home at 203 S. Commerce St. in Geneva. The family asks that flowers please be omitted, and suggests that donations be made to Wesleyan Fellowship building fund, 531 Roselane Street, Suite 830, Marietta, Ga., 30060, or to Westside United Methodist Church building fund, 1010 W. Maple Ave., Geneva, Ala., 36340.

Mrs. Vindeta McNeil Waters of Memory Lane in Kinston (the Hacoda community) died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at her residence after a short illness. She was 81. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Geneva with the Rev. Raymond O’Quinn officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends from noon until departure time to the cemetery today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hacoda Baptist Church Building Fund.

Master Sgt. U.S. Air Force Willie Dennis Bennett Jr., a resident of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at his residence. He was 49. Funeral services and survivors will be announced later by Allen Funeral Home of Dothan, 794-6759.

Grady Brantley Jr., a resident of the Echo community in Dale County, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at his home. He was 62. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Echo United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Craddock and the Rev. Danny Quincey officiating. Burial will follow in the Echo Cemetery with Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. Samuel F. Ellison of Webb died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 15, 2002, at his home after an extended illness. He was 69. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today at Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Wallace M. Duke and the Rev. James A. Rich officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory with Holman-Headland Mortuary directing.

Mrs. Daisy McCreary Cheese Hogans of Pensacola, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Jackson Hospital in Marianna, Fla. She was 93. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Bernard Yates officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery with Joe Morris Funeral Home of Pensacola, Fla., directing. The family will receive friends at the Joe Morris Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. Sunday. A wake will be held from 6-7 p.m. Saturday at Vann Funeral Home in Marianna, Fla.

Mildred G. Klingbeil passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Daytona Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Union Hill Baptist Church in Cottonwood with Glen Howell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service in the Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Bobby Lee Meadows of Dothan went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002. He was 73. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kent-Thornton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Kent-Thornton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Raliford “Ralph” Morris of Dothan died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at his home following an extended illness. He was 64. The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Newville, with the Rev. Eddie W. Thomas, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Levite Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Nancy Redding, a resident of Ozark, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in the Ozark Nursing Facility. She was 81. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Trawick Funeral Home of Ozark, 774-8374.

Mr. J.B. Rich, a resident of Oakview Manor Nursing Home in Ozark died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Oakview Manor Nursing Home after an extended illness. He was 86. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery with Varner Memorial Funeral Home directing.

John Quinton (Jeff) Skeen, a resident of Westside Terrace, Dothan, formerly of Abbeville, died early Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2002, in Westside Terrace. He was 81. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dave Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Bluff Springs Baptist Cemetery, near Ashford. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside. Holman-Headland Mortuary of Headland, 693-3371, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Frances Morrow Taylor of Graceville died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness. Funeral services are incomplete but will be announced by James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville, (850) 263-3238.

Mr. Ernest Leroy Wiggins of Mobile died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Providence Hospital. He was 47. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. today in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Leroy Cemetery in Leroy, Ala. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home.

Mellie Beaty Adams, a resident of Wesley Manor in Dothan, formerly of Troy, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Dothan. She was 102. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Oakwood Cemetery on Knox Street in Troy with the Rev. Richard Holmes officiating. Dillard Funeral Home will be directing. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. today at Dillard Funeral Home. Mrs. Marvolene Tomlinson Benefield of Wedowee died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke. She was 84. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Green ’s Chapel Church with the Rev. Cloyse Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Benefield Funeral Home. Iris Rachel (Jones) Brunson, of New Brockton, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at her home in New Brockton following a brief illness. She was 64. The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Saturday at First Assembly of God Church in New Brockton with the Rev. S. L. Nolin, the Rev. Rocky McLendon and the Rev. Robert Creel officiating. Burial will be in the New Brockton City Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Brunson will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time.

Mrs. Mary A. Calhoun of Ozark, died at her residence Sunday morning, Oct. 6, 2002. She was 71. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark with Dr. S.C. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Ozark Memorial Chapel directing. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. today. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Columbus Earl Danzey, a resident of Haleburg, Ala., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. He was 73. Complete arrangements and a list of survivors will be announced later by Stanford and Sons Funeral Home of Abbeville, 585-5344.

Mr. Frank Dickerson, of Clio, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in Clio. He was 41. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Peter A.M.E. Church in Clio. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Elder David Reddick officiating and Trawick Funeral Home directing. Trawick Funeral Home of Ozark, 774-8374, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Albert Westley Dozier of Cottonwood passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. He was 58. A homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Holiness Church with the Rev. J. Cody expressing words of encouragement. Burial will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Dothan. Reposing will be at Scott’s Chapel Hill Mortuary, 701 Daleville Ave., Enterprise. Family and friends may call from 5-7 p.m. today at St. Mary Holiness Church in Cottonwood for visitation.

Mr. Jack Harold Fowler, of Black, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the family residence after an extended illness. He was 73. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Shirah officiating. Burial will follow in Geneva City Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mattie Davis Gauntt, a resident of Bainbridge, Ga., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Bainbridge. She was 87. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. EDT Saturday at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge. Mr. Alto Hearn of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of the McChapel community in Marianna, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in Jacksonville. He was 94. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at McChapel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. R.E. Hudson and the Rev. Terrance Sapp officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Fla.

Mrs. Mattie Rene Green wood Horne, of Montgomery, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. She was 65. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Trawick Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery in Skipperville with Brother Titus Cummings officiating. Trawick Funeral Home of Ozark, 774-8374, is in charge of arrangements.

Bessie C. Mallory died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Wesley Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was 98. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of First Baptist Church in Dothan. John D. Clark, 77, a resident of Brundidge, Ala., died Sunday, July 7, 2002. Mr. Robert Paul Temples Sr., 85, a Dothan resident, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center following an extended illness. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Gordon City Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kent-Thornton Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Mr. Temples son, Robert Paul Temples Jr.

E.J. (Dick) Fillenworth, 69, of Level Plains, Ala., went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at his home. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Level Plains with the Rev. Autry Waters and the Rev. Mike Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Jessie Rhynes, 93, of Campbellton, Fla., passed Wednesday evening, July 10, 2002, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a native of Jackson County, Fla. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville.

Gladis S. Couch of Enola, Penn., died Monday, July 8, 2002, at her home. She was the daughter of Charles and Janet Glorita and was born in New York City on Feb. 6, 1911. She was a resident of Dothan from 1977 to 1994.

Curtis Carter (Master Sgt. Ret. U.S. Army), 58, of Ozark died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. S.C. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with full military honors and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Carter will be placed in the church one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Talmage Delmus Collins, 91, of 675 County Road 89, Newville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 10, 2002, near his home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Holman-Headland Mortuary chapel with the Rev. Vince Lee and the Rev. Jerry Glover officiating. Burial will follow in the Center United Methodist Cemetery, near Newville. The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary. At other times, the family will be at Mr. Collins' residence. Paula Renae Dean Spradley, 36, of Midland City, entered into Heavens Gates on Wednesday, July 10, 2002, to rest forever in peace with her Heavenly Father. Timothy Palmer Crump, 55, a resident of Tuscaloosa, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Healthsouth Medical Center in Birmingham following surgery. A memorial service to celebrate Tims life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at University Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa with the Rev. Sandy Winter officiating. A second memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Ala. with the Rev. John Baxter officiating. Byrd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. George Mae McHellon, 48, of Dothan died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan after a short-term illness. Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Larry Carpenter officiating and Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Funeral Home directing.
