She was a member of the Harris Beauty Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Kidd Sr., Lower Peach Tree, Randy Kidd, Henry Kidd, Monroeville, Seaman Cortney Kidd, Virginia; two daughters, Cornelia McClain, Mobile, Kimberly Kidd, Lower Peach Tree; three brothers, Lincoln Welch, Lower Peach Tree, Issac Welch, Fulton, Bernard Welch, Cleveland, OH; five sisters, Sadie Fort, Ernestine Welch, Willie Lee Taite, all of Mobile, Trula Y. Kidd, Direather McCaskill, Lower Peach Tree; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The service was held Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church with Rev. W.W. Nixon officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Reese Funeral Home directed.
McCall
Ernestine McCall, 48, of Thomasville died Sept. 20, 2003 at Mobile Infirmary.
She had worked as a cashier at the Conoco Superstop.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry B. McCall, Thomasville; three sons, Marvin Jones, Jerry McCall, Eric McCall, all of Thomasville; four daughters, Taunya McCall, Dorien McCall, Crystal McCall, Ebony McCall, all of Thomasville; eight brothers, McArthur Jones, Willie Jones, Jeff Jones, Ronnie Price , Dwight Jones, all of Pine Hill, Gregory Jones, Calvin Jones, Eric Jones, all of Birmingham; four sisters, Ermia Jones, Cheryl Rettia Bennett, Carolyn Jones, all of Pine Hill; five grandchildren.
The service was held Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Arlington with Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Green Baptist Church Cemetery. Reese Funeral Home directed.

Williams
Herbert O. Williams Sr., 50, of Fulton died Sept. 23, 2003 at Mobile Infirmary.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Williams, Fulton; one son, Herbert O. Williams Jr., Fulton; one daughter, Andrella F. Smith, Pine Hill; one sister, Betty Philen, Fulton; two grandchildren.
The service was held Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Spencer Chapel A.M.E. Church in Fulton with Rev. Clausell Boykin officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery in Fulton. Reese Funeral Home directed.

McSwain
Virginia Faye Vaughn McSwain, 62, of Thomasville died Oct. 9, 2003 at Thomasville Infirmary.
She was a resident of Thomasville Nursing Home for the past 20 years. She was a former resident of Mobile. She was a member of the Thomasville Church of God. She had worked as a real estate broker.
Survivors include her husband, Charles E. McSwain, Bay Minette; her mother, Virginia Irene Vaughn, Thomasville; two sons, Tommy Goff Jr., Kenny Goff, both of Mobile; two daughters, Ginny Pritchard, Pueblo, CO, Cindy Griffin, Mobile; one stepdaughter, Brenda Hammack, Mobile; one sister, Brenda Maxwell, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The service was held Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at the chapel of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Revs. Griel Smith and Jimmy Sowell officiating. Burial was in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Sweet Water.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Thomasville Church of God Building Fund in memory of Faye McSwain.

Albert Thomas Salter, 73, of Pine Hill died Oct. 9, 2003 at Baptist Medical Center East.
He was a native of Conecuh County. He was a member of the Arkadelphia Baptist Church in Loree, AL. He was a member of the K.A. Mayer Lodge #703 F & AM in Pine Hill. He was retired from Independent Life Insurance Company as an agent.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Marie Salter, Pine Hill; one son, Thomas Salter, Pine Hill; two daughters, Lisa Bradford, Pine Hill, Sheron Kirby, Russellville; one sister, Lanier Hawsey, Saraland; two grandchildren.
The service was held Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Parnell officiating. Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery.

Calhoun
Retha Mae Calhoun, 78, of Grove Hill died Oct. 22, 2003 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.
She was born to the late Matt Pugh and Annie B. Bumpers Pugh of Grove Hill. She was a member of the Wilson Chapel AME Church where she served on the Trustee Board. She was a choir member and steward in the Sunday School. She was a retired baliff with the Clarke County Courthouse.
Survivors include four daughters, Rosie Calhoun Williams Hayes, Geraldine Clarke, Lynda Dandridge, all of Detroit, MI, Debra Calhoun, College Park, GA; one step-brother, Charles Beckham, Grove Hill; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
The service was held Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Wilson Chapel AME Church of Grove Hill with Rev. Wanda Robinson, eulogist, Rev. Marshall, pastor. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Zimco. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
Everett
Katie Bell Everett, 88, of West Bend died Dec. 18, 2003 at Jackson Medical Center.
She was a member of the West Bend Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Earl Gray Allday, West Bend; one sister, Odie Mae Seals, Ferriday, LA; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren.

James W. "Jim" Johnson, 74, of Grove Hill died Dec. 17, 2003 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Excel. He was a member of Tompkins Baptist Church. He resided in Knoxville, TN for many years where he retired from Playtex Corporation.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Hudson, Grove Hill; one sister, Shirley Johnson, Grove Hill; two brothers, Walt Johnson, Houston "Lee" Johnson, both of Grove Hill; one daughter-in-law, Ann Johnson, Maryville, TN; four granddaughters, Charono Sherman, Gainestown, Charnell Jackson, Tessa Boring, Jewel Johnson, Maryville, TN; five great-grandchildren; a goddaughter, Michelle Baker, Centre.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Edna Till Johnson, formerly of McWilliams, Ruth DeMarcus, Ethel Farley, Mildred Dalton, Knoxville, TN; his son, Jim Johnson Jr.; two brothers, W.C. "Wally" Johnson, Lavelle "Windy" Johnson.
The service was held Saturday, Dec. 20 at the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. Burial was in the Excel Cemetery.

Overton
Albert Overton, 77, of Grove Hill died Dec. 19, 2003 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church. He had been self-employed as a timberman.
Survivors include three sons, Rayford Overton, Glen Overton, both of Grove Hill, Benny Overton, TX; three daughters, Jeannette Gomez, Dallas, TX, Lila Flowers, Asbury, Doris Johnson, Dickinson; one brother, Kenneth Overton, Jackson; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
The service was held Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home. Burial was in the Magnolia Cemetery in Grove Hill.
Wimberly
Conrad L. Wimberly, 61, of Carlton died Dec. 18, 2003 in a Mobile hospital.
He was a native of Mobile. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Jackson. He was retired from Boise Paper Mill in Jackson as an electrician.
Survivors include his wife, Elouise G. Wimberly, Carlton; one son, Scott Wimberly, Tuscaloosa; one grandchild, Gloria Wimberly, Tuscaloosa.
The service was held Saturday, Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Jackson. Burial was in the Wimberly Family Cemetery in Carlton. Lathan Funeral Home directed.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the memorial fund at First Assembly of God Church in Jackson.
Gates
Lillie Mae Gates, 88, of Thomasville died Dec. 17, 2003 at Thomasville Infirmary.
She was born in Morvin. She was a member of the Round Hill Baptist Church. She was a former seamstress.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Lorraine Potter, Mobile, Peggy Ann Sweet, Thomasville, Earldean "Deen" Bosso, Daphne; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Gates and a son, Earl Bruce Gates.
The service was held Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. H. Grady Goodman officiating. Burial was in the Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville.

Katy Ray Sheffield, 81, of Thomasville died Dec. 17, 2003 at Thomasville Infirmary in Mobile.
She was a member of the Midway Baptist Church. She was a former supervisor for a garment manufacturing company.
Survivors include one son, Windell A. Sheffield, Thomasville; two daughters, Faye S. Tyrus, Autaugaville, Joann Stifflemire, Monroeville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Tommie Lee Smith Jr., 54, of Arlington died Dec. 17, 2003 USA Knollwood Park Hospital.
He was a member of the Magnolia Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had worked as a logger.
Survivors include two brothers, Lonnie Smith, Selma, Ned Smith, Magnolia; two sisters, Kathleen Hill, Thomasville, Linda Bailey, Grove Hill.
The service was held Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Sherman Williams officiating. Burial was in the Kelly Cemetery in Pine Hill.

Cora Lee Chapman, 91, of Grove Hill died Jan. 28, 2004 at Jackson Healthcare Facility.
She was a member of the Bertha Mae Chapter #314 O.E.S. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lynn Taite, Grove Hill; one sister, Georgia Wiggins, Pensacola, FL; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
The service was held Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church in Grove Hill with Rev. Corey Pruitt officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Brasell
Rile Singleton "Buddy" Brasell, 59, of Thomasville died March 5, 2004 at his residence.
He was a veteran. He had worked as a former equipment operator/pallet shop.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma Walker, Thomasville; one son, Rodney Smith, Jackson; two sisters, Faye Tutt, Forkland, Barbara Jean Tyler, Pine Hill; two brothers, James Shelton Brasell, Thomasville, Larry Michael Brasell, Camden; three grandchildren.
The service was held March 9 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home. Burial was in the Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville.
Active pallbearers were Kenton Brasell, Benny Brasell, Jessie Jackson, Robert Tutt, Michael Brasell and Tracy Brasell.

Chapman
David Chapman, 80, of the Winn Community of Jackson died March 9, 2004 at Jackson Medical Center.
He was an avid hunter and worked as a logger and truck driver for many years. He was a member of Berry’s Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Winn where he served as a steward and member of the Otha Thomas Choir. He was a World War II United States Army veteran.
Survivors include one sister, Christine C. Smith, Winn; one brother, M.L. Chapman, Winn.
The service will be held Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at Berry’s Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Visitation will be held Friday, March 12 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the chapel of Andrews Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be given at the gravesite at Berry’s Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Cemetery.
Woods
Lillie Inze Sheffield McVay Woods, 91, died March 8, 2004 at the Jackson Health Care Facility. The Clarke County native was a member of Peniel Baptist Church and a retired seamstress with Vanity Fair Mills.
Survivors include two daughters, Mabel Stifflemire, Fulton, and Catherine Wiggins, Dickinson; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 10 from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. service in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson.
Burial was in the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery in the McVay community near Jackson.
Lathan Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Armstead-Hurst
Shirley R. Armstead-Hurst, 56, of Inglewood, CA, died Dec. 24, 2003 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a native of the Allen community near Grove Hill.
She attended St. Peter School in Allen, Mackey branch Middle School in Gosport and graduated from Wilson Hall High School in 1966. She had lived in Thomasville prior to moving to Los Angeles. She attended California State University at Dominques Hills.
She was a member of Gosport Temple Baptist Church in Los Angeles for 10 years and served with the Deaconess and pastors Aid Ministries. She later united with Greater Heights Mission Bible Church where she served as announcement clerk, special programs coordinator, Sunday School teacher and mission coordinator.
She was employed with Los Angeles Community College District for over 25 years.
Survivors include her husband James Hurst Sr. of Inglewood, CA; two sons, James Hurst Jr. and Ricardo Hurst Sr., both of Los Angeles, CA; One daughter, LaKeri Hurst of Davis, CA; Three sisters, Carolyn Price of Inglewood, CA, Mable Wiley of Irvington and Urtha Leggett of Mobile; six brothers, Commie Armstead Jr. and Eddie Ree Armstead, both of Suggsville, Alvin Armstead Sr. of Ridgeville, SC, Jerry Armstead of Jackson, Preston Armstead of Inglewood, CA and Ondra Armstead of Allen; four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Baptist Church of Allen with Rev. Matthew Davis officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Baptist Cemetery.
