Walker

Mary Marjorie Walker, 91, of Creola died Sept. 19, 2004 at Satsuma.

She was a native of Bashi. She was a member of the Nicholsville Church of God. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Jesse R. Walker, Ralph A. Walker, both of Creola; two daughters, Voncile Pope, Thomasville, Nadeen Sheffield, Mobile; one sister, Bernice Gates, Saraland; three half-sisters, Sybil Stacey, Saraland, Catherine Smith, Robertsdale, Joan Ganns, Selma; one half-brother, John Harrison, Thomasville; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. in the Bashi United Methodist Church Cemetery in Thomasville with Rev. Jimmy R. O’Bryant officiating. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home directed.

Simon

Beatrice K. Simon, 72, of Jackson died Oct. 4, 2004 at her residence.

She was a native of Walker Springs. She was a member of the Mt. Olive #2 Baptist Church of Jackson. She was a former choir member. She was a retired professional silk finisher.

Survivors include three sons, O.L. Simon Jr., Conyers, Ga., Larry Preston Simon, Southfield, Mich., Danny O’Harrell Simon, Jackson; three sisters, Margaret Richardson, Melville, N.Y., Lillian Lemon, Montville, N.J., Zilphia L. Williams, Jackson; one brother, James Daniel Portis, Walker Springs; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The service was held Oct. 9 at 12 noon at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church #2 with Rev. James McGhee, eulogist, Rev. D.W. Moore, pastor. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Andrews Funeral Home directed.

Alexander

Richard “Dick” Alexander, 75, of Bay Minette died Feb. 6, 2005 at Mobile Infirmary.

He was a native of Ansley. He attended Troy State University four years. He served in the Army in communications during the Korean War. He was a retired insurance salesman with Union National Life.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Fay Alexander, Jackson; one son, Edward Alexander, Jackson; one daughter, Debra Hanks, Daphne; one brother, Gary Alexander, Troy; one sister, Alice Curtis, Glenwood; two grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10 a.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 10) with the service at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson.

Bozeman

Alton Kendrick Bozeman, 65, better known as “The Alabama Flash” died Feb. 4, 2005 at Florida Hospital Orlando.

He was a native of Washington County. He was a musician who played guitar with famous bands throughout his life.

Survivors include five sons, Alton Ray Bozeman, Mt. Dora, Fla., Kenneth Eugene Bozeman, Sumrall, Miss., Kenneth Lurue Bozeman, Mobile, “Little” Raymond Bozeman, Mobile, Stephen Bozeman, Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Shirle Rae Bozeman, Dayton, Ohio; one brother, James Henry “Bill” Bozeman, Saraland; five sisters, Estelle Reynolds, Diane Morris, both of Chatom, Lurverne Sullivan, St. Stephens, Maxine Rush, Mobile, Marilyn Whitehead, Jackson; special companion, Gayle McBride; 12 grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ethel Bozeman; two brothers, Vernon and Burney Bozeman.

The service was held Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of St. Stephens with Revs. Gary Patrick and Glenn Sullivan officiating. Burial was at the First Baptist Church Cemetery of St. Stephens. St. Stephens Funeral Home directed.

Active pallbearers were Perry Bozeman, Ray Bozeman, Daniel Bozeman, Anthony Bozeman, Kyle Morris, Scott Sullivan, Jamey Sullivan, Jeremy Sullivan and Jared Whitehead.

Honorary pallbearers were Aaron Bozeman and the members of The Country Music Association of Mobile.

Bedwell

Gladys Roberts Bedwell, 90, of Coffeeville died Feb. 5, 2005 at Jackson Medical Center.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ulcanush Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Coffeeville Chapter.

Survivors include one son, Dan Bedwell, Coffeeville; four daughters, Marie Sims, Coffeeville, Joyce Myers, Jo Ann Gibbons, both of Thomasville, Sue Stephens, Grove Hill; one brother, Glover Roberts, Jackson; one sister, Mary Parden, Coffeeville; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Bedwell, son, Edward D. Bedwell and daughter, Faye B. Montgomery.

The service was Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. at Ulcanush Baptist Church of Coffeeville. Burial was in the Ulcanush Baptist Church Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directed.

Stanley

Raymond Stanley, 82, of Bay Minette died Feb. 5, 2005 at William F. Green Veterans Nursing Home in Bay Minette.

He was a native of Jackson. He was a retired United States Navy Veteran. He was also a retired mechanic from Pearce Motor Company.

He is survived by one niece, Sherri Booth, Wagarville.

The service was held Feb. 9 at the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson. Burial was in the Fort Barankus National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla. with full military honors.

Thomas

Obie Lee Thomas, 89, of Jackson died Feb. 3, 2005 at his residence.

He was a member of Stave Creek Baptist Church in Jackson. He had worked and retired from McGowin Oil Company in Jackson.

Survivors include two sons, Lavaster Thomas, Travis Thomas, both of Jackson; one daughter, Betty Thomas, Jackson; one brother, Rev. Curtis Thomas, Jackson; five grandchildren.

The service was held Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Maloy officiating. Burial was in the DuBose Cemetery in Jackson.

Walters

Kelley Russell Walters, 72, of Leroy died Feb. 4, 2005 at Jackson Medical Center.

He was a native of Hebrew Springs, Ark. He was a member of McCann’s United Methodist Church. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Air Force. He was self-employed as Kelley’s Refrigeration and Heating and Cooling business.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine Brewster Walters, Leroy; four sons, Kenneth W. Walters, Iowa, Larry R. Walters, California, Daniel L. Walters, Muldrow, Okla., Michael L. Walters, Hebrew Springs, Ark.; one brother, Harry L. Walters, Searcy, Ark.; four sisters, Freida D. Caery, Sue Burse, Sharon West, all of Jacksonville, Ark., Jo Anne Moss, West Side, Ark.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The service was held Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. at the McCann’s United Methodist Church in Jackson with Revs. Earl Watson and Steven Wiley officiating. Burial was in the Clearwater Cemetery in Wagarville. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directed.

Williams

Myles Edward Williams Sr., 83, of Midfield died Feb. 5, 2005 in a Birmingham hospital.

He was a native of Yellow Pine. He was World War II veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a retired truck driver for Mercury Freight Lines.

Survivors include four sons, Myles E. Williams Jr., Ronnie Williams, both of Jackson, Steve Williams, St. Stephens, Kenneth Williams, Montgomery; one daughter, Kitty Blackledge, St. Stephens; two brothers, Herbert Williams, Theodore, Nolan Williams, Fruitdale; three sisters, Vivian Beech, Chatom, Lillian Older, Grand Bay, Kate Martin, Kissimee, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

The service was held Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom. Burial was in the State Line Baptist Church Cemetery in State Line, Miss.

Active pallbearers were Jamie Blackledge, Brian Older, Doug Older, Harold Everhart and Ray Turner.

Foxx

Jo Ann Williams Foxx, 61, of Gainestown died Feb. 2, 2005 at her residence.

She was a member of the St. Matthew #1 Baptist Church of Manila. She served as secretary for the Order of Easter Star Chapter 730.

Survivors include her husband, William Foxx Jr.; three sons, William Foxx III, Marvin James Foxx, Bennie Levon Foxx, all of Gainestown; seven daughters, Rita Faye Foxx-Roberson, Theodore, Stephanie L. Foxx-Thomas, Aretha Foxx-Pulliam, both of Elkhart, Ind., Lou Ella Foxx, Auburn, Rose Marie Foxx, Melissa Foxx, both of Gainestown; five sisters, Loretta Robinson, Tennessee, Pauline Smith, Jackson, Mary Morsette, Saraland, Lillie Samuels, Mobile, Valeria McMillian, Detroit, Mich.; four brothers, John Smith, Woodrow Smith, both of Detroit, Mich., Samuel Smith, Clio, Nathan Martin, Jackson; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The service was held Feb. 5 at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Matthew Baptist Church #1 in Manila. Rev. Willie Causey, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the St. Matthew Baptist Church Cemetery. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directed.

James

Florence Perine James, 77, of the Choctaw Bluff Community died Feb. 5, 2005 at Jackson Medical Center.

She was a member of the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church in Choctaw Bluff where she was an usher and a missionary. She was also a past secretary of the church and a mother of the church.

Survivors include her husband, L.V. Foxx, Choctaw Bluff; eight sons, Ottis James, Wesley James, Evon James, Rev. Ivory James, all of Choctaw Bluff, Tony James, Prattville, Glen James, Birmingham, Ray Lee Rocker, Pittsburg, Calif., Donald James, Hayward, Calif.; three daughters, JoAnn Barbosa, Vallejo, Calif., Marquetta Roberts, Oakland, Calif., Margaret Mitchell, Glendale, Maryland; one adopted daughter, Kathy Gaston, Choctaw Bluff; three brothers, Jim Perine, Choctaw Bluff, Clyde Perine, Alfred Perine; four sisters, Bertha Lee Howard, Oakland, Calif., Willie Mae Robinson, San Ramon, Calif., Addie Curtis, Sacramento, Calif., Ora Lee Perine, Mobile; 34 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at noon on Friday, Feb. 11 at the St. James A.M.E. Church with Revs. Clausell Boykin, pastor, and Ivory James, eulogist, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Andrews Funeral home will direct.

Golden

Bennie B. Golden, 55, of Linden died Feb. 5, 2005 at her residence.

She was a native of Sylacauga. She was a member of the Thomasville Assembly of God. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Buford Aaron Golden, Linden; two sons, Buford Aaron Golden II, Demopolis, Bennett Dale Golden, Shiloh; four grandchildren.

The service was held Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with Revs. K.R. Dunn and Mark Simon officiating. Burial was in the Dunning Cemetery in Dixons Mills.

Donations may be made to the Thomasville Assembly of God or to the Dunning Cemetery Fund.

Active pallbearers were Bill Golden, Brian McDaniel, Earl Edmonson, John Osburn, Steve Clark and Wayne Sherbert.

Honorary pallbearers were Matt Golden, Ron Osburn and Barry McDaniel.

Hasty

Agnes Inez Hasty, 83, of Surginer died Jan. 31, 2005 at her residence.

She was a native of Bibb County. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Wesley Hasty, Surginer; two sons, James Wesley (Mary Olive) Hasty, Linden, Charles Howard (Jan Carol) Hasty, Gallion; one daughter, Judy H. (Thomas Jefferson) Kirkham, Vineland; one sister, Jessie Maude Lambert, Scyrene; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Franklin Hasty.

The service was held Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with Revs. James Farrow and John Coker officiating. Burial was in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dixons Mills. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.

Active pallbearers were Darren Kirkham, Steve Kirkham, Jim Hasty, Jared Hasty, Rafe Taylor and Jeffrey Hasty.

Bates

Robert Bates Jr., 70, of Thomasville died Jan. 22, 2005 at his residence.

He was retired. He had worked for Parham-Parham.

Survivors include his wife, Equilia Bates, Fulton; one son, Robert Bates III, California; one daughter, Theresa Ridgeway, Butler; two brothers, Dave Gates, El Paso, Texas, Willie Bates, Philadelphia, Penn.; one sister, Lorine Kemp, Mobile; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The service was held Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. at the Spencer Chapel A.M.E. Church with Rev. W.T. Leseurer officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery in Fulton.

Eby

Maggie Lee Rotch Eby, 86, of Pennington died Feb. 1, 2005 at her residence.

She had worked as an LPN.

Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Karen Neumann, Columbia, MO; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Nathan Eby, one stepson, Charles Edward Eby.

The service was held Feb. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Pennington with Rev. Anita Welborn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bumpers Funeral Home of Butler directed.

Active pallbearers were Bernhardt Neumann III, Harold E. Neumann, Zachary R. Neumann, Grady James, Jimmy Hurtt and Doug White.

Presnall

Daniel W. Presnall, 84, of Warner Robins, Ga. died Feb. 2, 2005.

He was a native of Clarke County. He was the son of the late Mitford and Lena Gates Presnall. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warner Robbins where he was also a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class, former member of the United Methodist Men and the Administrative Board. He was also a member of the NARFE and a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base as a sheet metal mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice M. Presnall, Warner Robins, Ga.; two sons, Daniel J. Presnall, Warner Robins, Ga., Larry W. Presnall, Cookeville, Tenn.; one sister, Helen Kelly, North Hollywood, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The service was held Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Missey Blumenthal and Dr. Jimmy R. Asbell Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Magnolia Park Cemetery. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home of Warner Robins directed.

Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Houston County at 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA. 31088 in memory of Mr. Presnall.

Veach

Ruth Davis Veach, 85, died Feb. 4, 2005 in Birmingham.

She had worked as an LPN at the Selma Baptist Hospital for 20 years. She attended Lakeside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy Class. She and her husband, Jack, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; one daughter, Jackie Dillard, one brother, Buddy (Marguerite) Davis, one grandson; four nieces and nephews.

The service was held Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3:30 p.m. at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Burial was in the Southern Heritage Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Boll

Mary Louise Haskins Boll, 63, of Birmingham died Feb. 14, 2005.

Survivors include her husband, A.J. Boll; two daughters, Tamiya Haskin, Denetrius Johnson, both of Birmingham; one brother, Henry Lewis William, Coffeeville.

She was preceded in death by her father, the late Lewis William and her mother, the late Stella William.

The service was held Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Old Union Baptist Church in Coffeeville with Bishop John Redmon officiating. Burial was in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Coffeeville. Mosley Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.

Horn

Daniel Horn, 85, of Montgomery died Feb. 19, 2005 at Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery.

He was born the fifth child of the late Charlie and Ellen Horn on April 25, 1919. He joined Rock West Church at an early age. He had worked as a farmer.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Daniel Horn, Toano, Va., Daniel Thomas (Winifred Diana) Horn, Montgomery, six daughters, Dessie Ovetta (Willie D.) Williams, Tampa, Fla., Mary Ellen Thomas, Detroit, Mich., Dorothy Jean (Willie James) Scott, Orlando, Fla. Ida Yvonne (Kevin Larkins, Southfield, Mich., Jacqueline Denise Horn, Whatley, Hazel Elaine (Leroy) Martin Jr., Montgomery; one sister, Mary Alice Woods, Thomasville; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

The service was held Feb. 26 at noon at Rockwest A.M.E. Church in Thomasville with Rev. Jessie Rivers officiating. Burial was in the Rock West Cemetery. Mosley Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.

Active pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
