Andrew "Pip" Manuel, 79, of Chestnut died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at his home. A native of Monroe County, Mr. Manuel was a self-employed pulpwooder and a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. Services were held Saturday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. in St. Matthew Baptist Church. The Rev. John Tucker officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elnora Manuel of Chestnut; two sons, Andrew Manuel and Vonell Manuel, both of Chestnut; seven daughters, Elaine Marshall and Debra Manuel, both of Chestnut, Kathleen Stallworth of Beatrice, Hazel Stanton of Burnt Corn, Cleveretta Williams of Frisco City, Elizabeth McCants of Detroit, Mich., and Renee Dunkins of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Jimmy Manuel of Cleveland, Ohio; and 39 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and four nieces and nephews.

Billy Vaughn Stuckey, 62, of Evergreen, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at his home. Services were held Saturday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Cope Funeral Home. Rogene Booker officiated, and burial was in Lone Star cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Jewel Stuckey of Evergreen; four sons, Fred Stuckey, Billy Mack Stuckey, Rex Stuckey and Rodney Stuckey, all of Evergreen; one daughter, Janet Stuckey of Evergreen; two sisters, Adelle Griffin of Houston, Texas, and Fredia Luster of Verbena; and seven grandchildren.
John Grady Grant

John Grady Grant, 91, of Uriah died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, in a Mobile hospital. Mr. Grant was a native and lifelong resident of Uriah and a steward of Uriah Methodist Church. He was a charter member of Monroe County Cattlemen's Association. He was a retired farmer. Services were held Monday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. in Uriah Methodist Church. The Revs. Diana Barnes and Donald Barnes officiated, and burial was in Uriah Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mildred Hall Grant of Uriah; one daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Van Pickens of Monroeville; one sister, Ruth Burkett of Montgomery; and one grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph "Joe" Tucker Smith, 63, of Monroeville died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at his home. Mr. Smith was a mechanic and carpet installer and worked for several years for Melton's Cabinet Shop & Ward's Floor Coverings. A private memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m. in Monroe Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Johnson will officiate. Survivors include one son, George Davidson Smith of Iowa; three daughters, Robin L. Wright and Margaret S. Wilson, both of Mexia, and Ronda S. Godwin of Monroeville; one brother, Marion Smith of Monroeville; and nine grandchildren.

Clayton "ToShay" Orland Jackson, 36, of Monroeville died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, in Monroe County Hospital. Mr. Jackson worked in the field of general construction for electrical installation as a wire puller. He was a member of St. Peter Baptist Church. Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 1 p.m. in Monroe Chapel Funeral Home. The Revs. Ywell Cunningham and Matthew Davis officiated, and burial was in Monroe Chapel Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Mary Kidd of Monroeville; three daughters, Tiffany Moore, Brittany Moore and Courtney Moore, all of Monroeville; two brothers, Jerry Kidd Jr. and Eric Kidd, both of Monroeville; three sisters, Angela Kidd of Pensacola, Fla., and Keidra Kidd and Candice Kidd, both of Monroeville.

Carrie Lee Berry, 78, of Repton died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Englewood Nursing Home. Mrs. Berry was a native of Conecuh County and had resided in Repton for many years. She was a member of Owens Chapel Church in Bermuda and had retired from Vanity Fair Mills. Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. from Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. J.W. Andrews officiated, and burial was in Owens Chapel Church cemetery. Survivors include one son, Lewis Berry of Repton; three sisters, Exalou Reed of Bay Minette, Minnie D. Robertson of Tupelo, Miss., and Geneva Stacey of Cantonment, Fla.; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Carl Williams Jr., 70, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Ocala, Fla. Mr. Williams was a native of Uriah and a resident of Ocala for nine years. He was a retired owner/operator of Industrial Truck and Lift Co. He was a member of College Road Baptist Church in Ocala and an avid fisherman. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, in Mineola Baptist Church at Uriah. Wayne MacMillan and Buddy Williams officiated, and burial was in Poplar Springs Cemetery at Uriah. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Alberta Williams of Ocala; two daughters, Elizabeth Wright of Longwood, Fla., and Judy C. Wise of Ocala; one son, Carl Rickey Williams of Alabama; one sister, Vicie Gregson of Mobile; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
