Visitation services will be held Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m.
Born on Sept. 21, 2002 to John W. Samford and Mary E. Samford of Owenton, Ken., he died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
Survivors include sons Jack B. Morrow of Thorsby and Layle Samford Jr. of Clanton; daughters Phyllis (Kenneth) Moates of Clanton and Pamela (Jerry) Arledge of Thorsby; grandchildren Susan (Benny) McClure of Kentucky, Terri Woodyard of kentucky, Michelle (Rickey) Coker of Clanton, Mark (Lisa) Moates of Florence and Jason Morrow of Jemison; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
His wife, Pernie Samford, and a son, William Tye Samford, preceded him in death.
Grady O. Smitherman: Funeral services for Grady O. Smitherman, 82 of Randolph, were held Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Randolph Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Teague officiating. Burial followed at Randolph Baptist Cemetery.
Born on Jan. 12, 1921 to Horace Smitherman and Sedruthera Smitherman, he died April 3, 2003 at Bibb Co. Nursing Home in Centerville.
Survivors include his wife Hazel Smitherman of Randolph; son Richard Smitherman of Centerville; daughter Peggy Langford of Lawley; brothers Grover Smitherman of Randolph and Floyd Smitherman of Randolph; granddaughters Amy Tyus of Lawley and Wendy Smitherman of Centerville; grandsons Matt Langford of Lawley and Rocky Smitherman of Korea; great-granchildren Joshua Tyus of Lawley, Jeremy Tyus of Lawley, Hannah Tyus of Lawley and Rebecca Langford of Lawley.
Thomas Stephen Davis: Tomas Stephen Davis died Thursday, April 3. He was a resident of Montgomery. Steve was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a wonderful father. The funeral will be held at Martin Funeral Home on Sunday, April 6, 2003 at 1 p.m. in Clanton. The Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery in Jemison. Steve leaves behind a loving family, his daughter Vallarie her mother Gail, his mother and father Mr. Thomas M. and Elaine Davis, brother Michael Davis, sister Cindy Wingard and a large family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born on Dec. 3, 1936 to William Julius Price and Addie Lorene Price of Jefferson County, he died Friday, April 4, 2003 at home.
Survivors include sons, Tracy Price of Jemison, William Price of Jemison, Darryl Price of Jemison, John Price of Jemison and Daymond Price of Jemison; brothers Leon Price of Clanton, Charles Price of Alabaster, James Price of Mississippi, Terry Price of Jemison and Dale Price of Briarfield; sisters Juanita Varden of Jemison and Marie Griffin of Calera and eight grandchildren.
Louie B. Hughes, Sr.: Louie B. Hughes, Sr., 89, a native of Bibb County and a longtime resident of Calera, died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at a local healthcare facility.
Hughes had been a resident of Daphne for 18 months.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII in the Mounted Infantry and was retired from U.S. Steel as a construction carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lois Smith Hughes; son and daughter-in-law, Benjie and Donna Hughes and two grandsons, Benjamin and Garrett Hughes, all of Daphne; Patricia Currier of Fairhope and many other in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Calera with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery in Jemison.

William Herman Muir: Services for William Herman Muir, 69 of Clanton, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton with Rev. Jeff Carroll officiating.
Burial followed in Clanton City Cemetery.
Born on August 6, 1933 to William Franklin Muir and Dora Mae Muir, he died June 7, 2003 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.
Survivors include his son Frankie Oneal Muir of Clanton; daughter Debra Morrison of Verbena; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Born on July 9, 1953 to Earnest Mills and Lura Mills, he died June 11, 2003 at his residence in Clanton.

Visitation will be held today from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Mt. Springs.
Parker died June 11, 2003 at Wood Haven Manor Nursing Home.

(Diane) Parker of Clanton; sisters Myrle Grace Popwell of Clanton and Betty Jo Roper of Chanute, Kansas; brother Jeff Miller of Clanton; dedicated sitters Juanita Futhrie and Elouise Duckworth; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his brothers Paul Moatts and his wife Jewel of Clanton andHerbert Hoover Moatts and his wife Geneva of Birmingham; sister-in-law Frances Moatts of Clanton; nephews Douglas Moatts, Wayne Sewell, Tommy Sewell, Gary Moatts, Michael Moatts and HerbieMoatts; nieces Paula Romano, Dian Lucas, Sherry Griffin, Cathy Broadway, Donna Cooper and Debra Headley.
Mr. Moatts was preceded in death by his father Rudolph Moatts; mother Annie Bell Teel Moatts; sisters Bernice Morrison, Blanche Moore and Ruby Johnson; brothers Adolphus Moatts and Ray Moatts; niece Teresa Reed.
Mr. Moatts was Chilton County Circuit Clerk for 18 years and operated Pinedale Gardens for 42 years.
Johnny Lamar Gandy: Services for Johnny Lamar Gandy, 56 of Clanton, are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. Sunshine Assembly of God in Clanton. Visitation takes place tonight at Martin Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. He will be buried at Sunshine Assembly of God Cemetery. Gandy was a welder by trade.
The Rev. Bruce McCormick, Rev. Arthur Davis and Rev. W.T. Cleckler will preside.
Gandy is survived by his wife, Betty Joyce of Clanton, a son - Randall Wayne (Michele) Gandy of Clanton and a daughter - Kristy Dawn Gandy of Clanton.
He is also survived by his mother, Lena Jones Gandy of Prattville, three brothers - Jerry Gandy of Wetumpka, Donald Gandy of Prattville and Ricky Gandy of Prattville as well as a sister, Linda Henley of Prattville. He is also survived by one grandson, Brett Lamar Gandy of Clanton.
Lewis Lawson Payton: Service for Lewis Lawson Payton, 84 of Clanton, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. He will be buried at Cane Creek Baptist Cemetery. The Rev. Randy Newman and Rev. Gene Truman will preside over the service.
Visitation will take place at Martin Funeral Home tonight from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Payton was a machine operator by trade.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Payton of Clanton as well as one son - Morris Payton of Jemison. He is survived by two grandsons - Randy Payton of Clanton and Kendall Payton of Clanton as well as one brother, Julius Payton of Ozark. He is also survived by five sisters - Ethel Payton of Clanton, Maudie Atha of Clanton, Victoria Smitherman of Clanton and Marzelle Robinson of Clanton and Etta Redmond of Alabaster.
