John Alvin Turner: Funeral Service for John Alvin Turner, 59, Billingsley, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at 11 a.m., with Rev. David Awtrey and Rev. Darryl Nichols officiating.

Burial will follow at Indian Grave Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Turner was born on July 30, 1943, in Alabama, the son of the late Alvin M. Turner and the late Alberta Turner. He was a teacher. He died on Nov. 23, 2002, in Birmingham.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda M. Turner, Billingsley; two sons, John (Pam) Turner of Hoover and Jason Turner of Knoxville, TN; one daughter, Jill (Jamie) Huffstutler of Montgomery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center or Indian Grave Baptist Church Building Fund.

James Moody Smith: Funeral Services for James Moody Smith, 70, Jemison, will be held at Union Springs Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Evie Megginson officiating.

Burial will follow at Union Springs Baptist Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Smith was born on June 23, 1932, in Alabama, the son of the late Joe Smith and the late Lizzie Smith. He was a crane operator. He died on Nov. 24, 2002 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons, Phillip Smith and Rodney Smith both of Jemison; a brother, Joe Earl Smith of Jemison; four sisters, Olice Headley of Bessemer, Opal Oaks of Birmingham, Sara Nell Plier of Jemison and Inez Sanders of Montgomery; one grandson Jordan Smith of Jemison; one granddaughter, Kristen Smith of Jemison.

James Albert Searcy: Funeral Services for James Albert Searcy, 83, Jemison, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at 3 p.m. with Rev. John Spain officiating. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 from 5 until 8p.m.

Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Searcy was born on March 12, 1919, in Jefferson County, the son of the late Joseph A. Searcy and the late Emma L. Searcy. He died on Nov. 25, 2002 at Briarcliff Nursing Home.

Survivors include his wife, Flora Mae Searcy of Jemison; two sons, Rev. Vernon Searcy of Thorsby and Michael Searcy of Milton, FL; three daughters, Peggy Jones of Birmingham, Diane Sanders of Brewton and Becky Haley of Brewton; one brother, Bob Searcy of Andalusia; one sister, Jeanette Atkinson of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lurline Martin Bean: Funeral Services for Lurline Martin Bean,92, Clanton, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2002 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John D. Trobaugh officiating.

Burial will follow at Chilton Memorial Gardens with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Bean was born on Aug. 23, 1910, in Alabama, the daughter of the late P. M. Martin and the late Irona Martin. She died on Nov. 24, 2002 at Chilton Medical Center.

Survivors include four nephews, Kendall (Sue) Martin of Jemison, Zane (Rebecca)Martin of Thorsby, Wayne (Kathy) Martin of Gardendale and Benny Martin of Birmingham; six nieces, Glenda LeBerte of Tampa, FL, Shirley (Hoyt) Carroll of Birmingham, Patricia Fulford of Clanton, Joyce (Jimmy) Posey of Jemison, Sara N. Champion of Birmingham and Kaye (Jerry) Hendon of Alabaster.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lucian Carl "Jelly" Bean.

Mary Lee Thornton: Funeral Services for Mary Lee Thornton, 80, Clanton, will be held on Wednesday Nov. 27, 2002 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jason Clouse and Rev. Paul Gray officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel from 5 until 8 p.m.

Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Methodist Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Thornton was born on October 22, 1922, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Leonard Joshua Marcus and the late Amy Lurana Marcus. She was a homemaker. She died on Nov. 25, 2002 at Hatley Health Care.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Baker of Clanton, Barbara Williams of Ashford and Shanon Baygents of Tuscaloosa; one sister, Frances Smitherman of Clanton; three brothers, Ralph Marcus of Jemsion, Ronald Marcus of Birmingham and Robert Earl Marcus of Birmingham; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Earl Thornton and one son, Timothy Thornton.

Mavis Ruth Powell: Marbury resident Mavis Ruth Powell, 64, will be cremated at Abanks Crematory. No memorial service is scheduled.

Born on April 15, 1938 to Joseph Christian Wingard and Annie Pearle Wingard of Chilton County, she died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at her home.

Survivors include her husband Lawrence H. Powell of Marbury; sons Joseph E. Powell of Marbury, William L. Powell of Clanton and Eugene G. Powell of Clanton; grandsons Lawrence Lee Powell of Marbury and Michael Powell of Clanton; granddaughters Lesha Reena Powell of Montgomery and Amanda Powell of Clanton; great-grandchildren Jacob Hooper of Clanton, Lawrence Corey Powell of Marbury and Tyler Lee Powell of Marbury; brother Buster Wingard; sister Joyce Faulk of Wetumpka and aunt Atlee Evans of Wetumpka.

John Mark "Jimmy" Curry: Funeral services for John Mark "Jimmy" Curry, 66 of Calera, will be held Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Providence No. 1 Baptist Church in Montevallo. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery in Montevallo. Rocko Funeral Home in Montevallo is officiating.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn K. Curry of Calera; daughter Amanda Goggins (Joey) of Jemison; son Stacey Curry (Donna) of Montevallo; sister Hal Faye Porter of Jemison; and grandchildren Nicole and Chase Curry of Montevallo.

Pauline P. Nivens: Graveside services for Pauline P. Nivens, 87 of Clanton, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Martin Memorial Cemetery with Rev. John D. Trobaugh officiating.

Born on Dec. 21, 1915 to Barnes Plyler and Ada Plyler, she died March 30, 2003 at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton.

Survivors include her husband James S. Nivens of Clanton; son James N. Nivens of Clanton; daughters Paula N. Starnes of Pelham and Kathy Robinson of Clanton; brothers John Wyatt Plyler of Birmingham, Barnes Plyler of Cooper, Douglas Plyler of Clanton and Don Plyler of Clanton; sisters Pat Powell of Clanton and Doris Dendy of Montgomery; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Wilson Eugene Sanders: Funeral services for Wilson Eugene Sanders, 62 of Oneonata, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Foote officiating.

Born on Sept. 3, 1940 to David Ottis Sanders and Lee Anna Sanders, he died March 31, 2003 at HealthSouth Metro West in Fairfield.

Survivors include his wife Jean Sanders of Oneonta; son Ray Sanders of Oneonta, daughter Tracy Isabell of Pell City; three grandchildren Klye Sanders, Jonathan Isabell and Jacob Isabell; sister Doris Hand of Clanton.

John Durwood Griffin: Services for John Durwood Griffin, 78 of Clanton, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Red Donovan officiating.

Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton.

Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home.

Born on Dec. 16, 1924 to John Henderson Griffin and Fannie Mae Griffin, he died July 22, 2003 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

Survivors include his sons Jimmy D. Griffin of Clanton and Dale Griffin of Clanton; brothers Billy Griffin of Demopolis, Don Griffin of Immokalee, Fla., and Bobby Griffin of Huntsville, Texas; sister Louise Langston of Clanton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

William Monette Sims: Funeral services for William Monette Sims, 95 of Jemison, will be held Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Rocko Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo with Rev. Earl Sims and Rev. Calvin Crocker officiating. Burial will follow at Montevallo Cemetery.

Visitation services will be held Friday, April 18, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at Rocko Funeral Home.

Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Williams of West Blocton and Vonceil Jones of Bakersfield, Calif.; son William C. (Betty) Sims of Jemison; sisters Maggie O. Dennis of Wilsonville and Mattie Eddings of Brierfield; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Patricia "Pat" Spigner Green : Funeral services for Patricia "Pat" Spigner Green , 65, Prattville, will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. from Camellia Baptist Church, with Rev. Glenn Brock and Rev. Doyle Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing.

Green 's body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be Patrick Hester, Jeremy Hester, Matthew Green , Dan Lewis, Gary Spigner, and David Spigner.

Green died peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, after an extended illness.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 45 years, J.B. Green . Survivors include one son, James Green , Prattville; one daughter-in-law, Annette Green , Prattville; one daughter, Gail Hester, Deatsville; one son-in-law, Danny Hester, Deatsville; five grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Green , Johnathon Rogers, Patrick and Jeremy Hester; two brothers and sisters-in-law, M.W. and Myra Jean Spigner, Raynond and Jeannie Spigner, both Prattville.

Flowers will be accepted, but memorial donations may be sent to the Children's Home.

Neopoleon Ray Jr.: Funeral services for Neopoleon Ray Jr., 75 of Prattville, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alvin Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Pates Chapel Baptist Cemetery in Jemison.

Born on Jan. 27, 1928 to Neopoleon Ray Sr. and Ivey Ray, he died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Chilton Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret C. Ray of Prattville; sons Kenny Ray of Clanton and Barry Ray of Clanton; daughters Helen Price of Thorsby, Fay Groom of Maplesville, Diane Tubbs of Clanton, Pay Ray of Clanton and Rhonda Giles of Jemison; step-son Don Turner of Billinglsey; brothers Duvard Ray of Jemison and Spence Ray of Jemsion; sisters Arlethia Price of Thorsby and Gladys Price of Thorsby; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Johnny S. Adams: Funeral services for Johnny S. Adams, 56 of Wetumpka, were held Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Chestnut Creek Baptist Cemetery in Verbena.

Born on August 18, 1946 to Jessie Adams and Katie Bell Adams, he died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Adams of Wetumpka; sons Tommy Adams and Michael Adams of Wetumpka; grandsons Justin Adams of Maplesville, Derrek Adams of Maplesville and James Adams of Wetumpka; brother James Adams of Verbena; sister Edna Graves of Verbena; a host of nieces and nephews.

Marguerite McCary Smitherman: Graveside services for Marguerite McCary Smitherman, 75 of Clanton, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Sardis Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Tony Smitherman officiating.

Born on Feb. 10, 1927 to Claude McCary and Clara McCary, she died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003 at Montgomery Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband Doyle Smitherman of Clanton; daughter Charlotte S. Bass of Prattville; sister Flora Dell Bray of Clanton and Frankie Bray of Clanton; Four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Annie Velma Burnett: Annie Velma Burnett, age 97 of Pelham, died on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on Thursday, Sept. 7, 1905, the youngest and last survivor of eight children to Mr. Tom Bailey and Mrs. Nettie Hawkins Bailey. Better known as "Mama Burnett" she was a member of the Pelham Church of God.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 2003 at Charter Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16. at Charter Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Elliottsville Cemetery in Alabaster.

"Mama Burnett" was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Eugene Gentry, and second husband, Maynard Burnett; sons, Bill, Jake, and Lloyd Gentry and Harland Burnett; daughter Helen Roberson; granddaughter Billie Ware; grandson Ken Gentry. Survivors include her sons, Floyd Gentry and Marlin Burnett both of Pelham and Marvin Burnett of Helena; daughters Lucille McGaughy of Alabaster and Lois Pate of Pelham; 27 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of other family members and many friends, several of which are from Clanton and Chilton County.
