Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Clarence David Burks, age 90, of Red Bay, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at Red Bay Hospital.

Mr. Burks was a native of Alabama and was employed with Russellville School in maintenance for 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Russellville. He was a Sargent in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. Mr. Burks was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Burks in 2002.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay with Bro. Hollis Boyd officiating. Interment was in Halltown Cemetery.

Mr. Burks is survived by four nieces, Sylvia Sims of Sulligent, Ruth Lofton and husband Nathan, of Vina, Marjorie Barksdale and husband Edward, of Vina, and Marie Johnson of Arkansas; two nephews, Arvie Upton of Vina and James Humphries of Red Bay; a step-son, Ray Lindley of Marion, Illinois; a step-granddaughter, Louise Powers of Chicago; and several other step-grandchildren.

Deaton Funeral Home assisted the family.

Audrey Bessie Hamilton, age 93, of Spruce Pine, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2004.

Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her husband, Rothmer Neal Hamilton; a son, Dallas B. "Dick" Hamilton; and a daughter, Connie Sue Hamilton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2004, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Carl Gilbert and Bro. Lonnie Oldag officiating. Interment will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Michael Grissom, Roger Grissom, Tony Champion, Jay Hamilton, Peyton Grissom, Ryan Champion, Christopher Grissom and Parker Grissom.

Mrs. Hamilton is survived by a daughter, Doris June Grissom and husband Roy, of Spruce Pine; a sister, Bernice Lawler of Chicago; six grandchildren, Michael Grissom and wife Tynette, of Dora, Roger Grissom and wife Missie, of Hackleburg, SFC Victor Hamilton (presently serving in Iraq) and wife LaVonna, of Smithville, Tennessee, Kelly Champion and husband Tony, of Spruce Pine, Kristi Gerding and husband Jason, of Cullman, and Norma Burleson and husband Mike, of Phoenix, Arizona; ten great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Spry Chapel assisted the family.

Jimmy Gray Reeves, age 62, of Red Bay, passed away Monday, December 27, 2004, at Red Bay Hospital.

Mr. Reeves was a native of Alabama and a truck driver for 25 years. He was a member of Community Center Baptist Church in Red Bay. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving for two years. Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charlie and Mime Reeves; and a brother, T.C. Reeves.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Community Center Baptist Church in Red Bay with Bro. Lowell Baggett and Bro. George Jones officiating. Interment was in Holly Springs Cemetery in Hodges.

Pallbearers were Jo Jo Reeves, Danny Renfrow, Ronny Lucas, Ron Harris, Shannon Ozbirn and Mark Myers.

Mr. Reeves is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret Reeves; four daughters, Tricia Reeves of Red Bay, Wendy Crum of Hodges, Kristi Cleveland and husband Kevin, of Golden, Mississippi, and Cassie Reeves; a son, Zack Reeves; two sisters, Gladys Robinson and husband Bud, and Myrt Singley, both of Meridian, Mississippi; four brothers, Curt Reeves, Edward Reeves and Al Reeves, all of Quitman, Mississippi, and Buddy Reeves of Tuscaloosa; and two grandchildren, Kaylon Cleveland and Kindrick Cleveland.

Guy Ray Stowe, age 52, of Florence, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Stowe was a native of Marion County but had lived in Florence for the past 17 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Edward Stowe.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2004, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Robert Allen, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Bear Creek #1 Cemetery.

Mr. Stowe is survived by his mother, Meallie Stowe of Russellville; two daughters, Suzanne and Allison; two brothers, Richard Stowe and Danny Stowe, both of Russellville; two sisters, Jane Stowe of Russellville and Ann Battcher of Huntsville; and a nephew, Jeremy Stowe.

Curnel William Beck, age 87, of Town Creek, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Huntsville Hospital.

Mr. Beck was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and a World War II Army Veteran with a Bronze Star. He was retired from his job as janitor at Hatton Elementary School. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Beck and Ollie Beck; five brothers, Grady Beck, Austin Beck, Garland Beck, Geoffrey Beck and Wilmer Beck; and a sister, Flora Mae Bradford.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roger Houston officiating. Interment was in Ferguson Cemetery in Town Creek.

Pallbearers were Dale Beck, Franklin Beck, Rayburn Beck, Billy Beck, Larry Bradford, and Jerry Wayne Bradford.

Mr. Beck is survived by his wife, Audrey Beck; a daughter, Donna King and husband Felton, of Russellville; two granddaughters, Chastidy Piper and husband Thomas, of Florence, and Jodie King of Decatur; and a sister, Ruby Owens of Decatur.

Kenneth Franklin Borden, age 61, of Wilmington, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Borden was born July 31, 1943, in Russellville, the youngest child of Edmer D. Borden and Anna Lee Grisham Borden. He attended Belgreen High School and worked a student program the summer of 1960 at General Electric in Chicago. He was offered and accepted a permanent position at their Cicero, Ill., location. Continuing his education, Mr. Borden became an electrician.

His 44 years of employment with General Electric gleaned many rewards. At his death, Mr. Borden was the supervisor of maintenance at the Cicero plant, a position he had held for many years. He married Margaret Louise Dalton of Chicago and had two sons and a daughter. They had a love for animals, horses in particular. They purchased a farm in 1990 in Wilmington, Ill., and established a family business, "Little Bit Farm, Inc.," with their son, Ken Jr.

Over the years, they have become renowned breeders and trainers of warmbloods. Opus, their stallion, presently ranks No. 1 in the nation for dressage breeding. They have an excellent history of dressage and riding performance scores.

Mr. Borden was an avid outdoorsman and in past years enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips to Alabama, Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Michigan and Alaska. He was a humble and caring man, never forgetting his roots. He was a Baptist, a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of I.B.E.W. 134.

Mr. Borden was preceded in death by his son, Michael Steven Borden; his parents; and a brother, James E. Borden, Jr.

Mr. Borden is survived by his wife, Margaret Louise Borden; his son, Kenneth Franklin Borden, Jr. and daughter, Jamie Lynn Borden, all of Wilmington, Illinois; his brother, Gerald S. Borden and wife JoAnn, of Evergreen; his sister, Frances B. Nichols and husband Neal, Sr., of Russellville; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Borden Wiggington of North Riverside, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Chlorice L. Holt, age 81, of Russellville, passed away Monday, January 3, 2005, at her residence.

Mrs. Holt lived all her life in Franklin County and was a member of First Methodist Church in Russellville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ken Hamilton.

Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Franklin Memory Gardens with Jeff Fleming officiating.

Pallbearers were James Pounders, Ricky Hall, Linden Miller, Ray Hargett, Barry Hargett and Joey Webb.

Mrs. Holt is survived by her husband, J.C. Holt; a son, James Webb of Montgomery; four sisters, Pearl Henderson of South Carolina, Darlene Phillips of Birmingham, Sarah Millwood of Decatur, and Rosalie Benko of Indiana; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to Louise Burcham, Hospice South, Heart-to-Heart Hospice, Southern Rural Health, Department of Public Health and all of the friends who have been so thoughtful and helpful.

Travis Eli Plylar, age 86, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Helen Keller Hospital.

Mr. Plylar lived his entire life in Franklin County and was a member of Isbell Methodist Church. He was retired from Union Carbide with 27 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maude Plylar; and a sister, Nancy Tompkins Brawley.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Pinkard Funeral Home chapel. Interment will be in Allen McRight Cemetery.

Mr. Plylar is survived by his wife, Fern Plylar; a son, Tommy Plylar of Russellville; three sisters, Mary Horton of Russellville, Lecie Moody of Double Springs, and Velma Padilla of Ft. Meyers, Florida; two grandchildren, Rusty Plylar and Beth Plylar; a great-grandchild, Dalton Plylar; and several nieces and nephews.

D. Burton Stanford, age 49, of Sulligent, passed away Monday, January 3, 2005.

Mr. Stanford was born in Jacksonville, Florida. He was employed as a Millwright for 22 years and was a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jo M. Higgins; his father, Harold Dean Stanford; his grandparents, Burton and Mellie Stanford, Omie and P.E. Edwards, and Dennis McGill; a nephew, Johnnie Perkins, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Johnnie Perkins, Sr.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Johnny Oliver officiating. Interment was in East Franklin Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brent Elliott, Matthew Trapp, Mark McGill, Donnie Vandiver, Patrick Trapp, Gene McGill, Adam Brooks and Greg McGill.

Mr. Stanford is survived by his wife, Mary Stanford; a son, Jerel Osborn and wife DeeAnn, of Phil Campbell; four daughters, Bridget Gosa and husband Tim, of Beaverton, Stephanie Montgomery and husband Shane, of Tuscumbia, Kelly Cullpepper and husband Michael, of Birmingham, and Mellie Stanford of Sulligent; his step-mother, Doris Stanford of Sulligent; two sisters, Jeanne Perkins and Becky Tucker, both of Vernon; a brother, Paul Crunk and wife Becky, of Sulligent; six grandchildren, Cameron and Katie Gosa, Madison Cullpepper, Elija Montgomery, Tyler Osborn and Bradley Piper; an aunt, Doris Lockhart of Sulligent; an uncle, Gene McGill and wife Martha, of Cullman; his father and mother-in-law, Rayan and Christine Trapp, of Phil Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.

Everett Linley Bridgmon, age 67, of Haleyville, passed away Friday, December 31, 2004, at Russellville Hospital.

Mr. Bridgmon was a retired truck driver and a musician. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Bridgmon; his parents; and brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Terry Duncan officiating.

Mr. Bridgmon is survived by two daughters, Loretta Kinkead and Linda Hamby, both of Haleyville; two sisters, Almar Cagle of Mexico, Missouri and Maggie Holloway of Lufkin, Texas; two brothers, James Bridgmon and Bill Bridgmon, both of Haleyville; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
