James Robert Watson

Lt. Col. James Robert Watson, 82, died at home in Montgomery on April 15, 2008, surrounded by his family and caregivers. He was predeceased by his parents, William Jackson Watson and Georgia Mixon Watson, both from Georgiana and Montgomery, and his late wife, Geraldine Arledge Watson, of Chattanooga, Tenn. He is survived by his loving wife Jane Trousdale Watson; three daughters, Lynn Watson Ireland (Robert) of Tuscaloosa, Carol Watson Christian (Steve) of Birmingham, Nancy Watson Thomas (George) of Montgomery and one son, James Robert Watson Jr. (Lisa) of Decatur; two brothers, William Jackson Watson (Gina) of Georgiana and Jerry Carroll Watson (Judy) of McLean, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, Robert Burdette Ireland III (Danielle) of Jackson, Miss., Jeremy Stephen Christian (Rebecca) of Mobile, Phillip Quinn Christian of Birmingham, Jonathan Render Thomas of Montgomery, Virginia Anne Thomas of Montgomery, James Robert Watson III (Jessica), Andrew Samuel Watson, Elizabeth Anne Watson, Matthew Gilbert Watson, Mary Grace Watson and Sarah Faith Watson, all of Decatur, Alabama; two stepchildren, Joseph Turner Porter III and Reginald Goree Porter; two great grandchildren, Olivia Ashland Christian of Birmingham and Emily Daix Ireland of Jackson, Miss., and two nephews, Teddy Watson and Hunter Watson of McLean, Virginia.
Lt. Col. Watson was born in November 25, 1925 in Georgiana. He enlisted in the Marines at the age of 17 during WW II. His extensive combat duty included landing with the third wave at Iwo Jima. He returned home after the war and finished high school in Georgiana High School before attending college at Howard College, now Samford University, in Birmingham. There he met and married Geraldine Arledge Watson.
He was commissioned in the United States Army as a 2nd Lt. and was stationed in Japan at the outbreak of the Korean War. He was among the first to defend South Korea, where he served as company commander. He was awarded three Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts for his service in Korea. Prior to his retirement in 1968, he volunteered to serve in Viet Nam. He was one of few veterans to serve in WW II, Korea and Viet Nam. Lt. Col. Watson was described by one of his fellow officers as a soldier's soldier. He went on to say, "When you judged Colonel, you can rest assured that the verdict will state that, here lies a man who saw even more to be done than his duty!"
After his retirement, he became the Executive Director of Southeastern Home Furnishings Association. Later, he and his wife, Jane Trousdale Watson, ran the Carriage House Restaurant and the Colonel's Rest Bed and Breakfast for many years. They were active members of the Family Motor Coach Association. He had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed having his family and friends around him at all times.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Southern Memorial Funeral Home with Father John-Michael van Dyke officiating. Visitation will be at 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Donations may be made to the United States Army Aviation Museum Foundation, Inc., APO Box 620610-0610, Fort Rucker, Alabama 36330.

Lorene Chavers

CHAVERS, Lorine H., 82, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2006, at a Montgomery hospital. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend Shannon McDonald and Reverend Greg Bixler officiating. Burial will follow in Booth Cemetery, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Chavers was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Chavers, and one brother, Forrest Popwell. She is survived by two daughters, Victoria (Lester) Buger and Cindy (Rocky) Dill; six sons, Earl (Diane) Headley, Buddy (JoAnn) Chavers, Leo (Ruby) Dhavers, Richard (Mary) Chavers, Roger (Sylvia) Chavers, and Elzie Chavers; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Conrad, and one sister-in-law, Avis Popwell. Pallbearers will be Phillip McCullers, James Eiland, Earl Edmondson, Excell Prickett, Josh McCullers, and Otis Smitherman. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Albert G. Amiro

Amiro, Albert G., 87, a resident of Millbrook, AL, died peacefully on Saturday April 7, 2007. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Amiro proudly served his country in WWII in the United States Army. He is survived by one daughter, Becky A. Morris, Millbrook, AL; two granddaughters, Ami (Jay) Brooks, and Abbey Reeves; one grandson, Austin Morris; and two great-granddaughters, Ella Kate and Gracyn Brooks.

Hazel Hicks Sanders

Hazel Hicks Sanders, 87, of Cleveland, Miss., died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at her home after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., April 7, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. Burial followed in North Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Ray Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sanders was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on Boards of Directors of the Methodist Children's Home and the Delta State Wesley Foundation. She was a lifetime member of the Junior Auxiliary of Cleveland.
Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Sanders, who died June 13, 1998.
Survivors include her son Mike Sanders (Nan) of Cleveland; daughter, Sallie Williamson (Warren), of Greenville, grandchildren, Ellen Voelkel (Tim) of Lutherville, Maryland, Amanda Turner (Jed) and Michael Sanders (Holly), both of Cleveland, Hayes Johnson (Nathan) of Birmingham, Alice Denton (Walton) of New York, NY and Leah Ellis (Henry) of Colorado Springs, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ben Bailey, Lamar Taylor, Alan Morgan, Dr. Tom Wiggins, Marty Tubbs and Pemble Davis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Cleveland, the Jimmy and Hazel Sanders Sculpture Garden, c/o Delta State University Foundation or the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville.

David Matthew Brink

Brink, David Matthew, 36, a resident of Prattville, AL, died on Monday, August 21, 2006. He is survived by his parents, Judy (Brink) Pierce, Prattville, AL, and Bill (Lilian) Brink, Wichita Falls, TX; one sister, Stephanie Brink, Prattville, AL; and one brother, William “Bill” Brink, Prattville, AL. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Aline Barnes

Barnes, Aline Pierson, 86, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Saturday evening, September 04, 2004, at a local health care facility. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at 2 p.m., from Pineview Cemetery in Selma, AL with Dr. Travis Coleman officiating, Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Barnes was a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Holland of Prattville, AL; four grandchildren, Terri (Matt) Palco of Birmingham, AL, Donna Roberts of Prattville, AL, Joel Barnes of Darlington, South Carolina, and Noel Barnes of Birmingham, AL. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Bernice S. Griffin

Bernice S. Griffin, age 74, a resident of Sandcutt Community near Georgiana, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2008 from the Antioch West Baptist Church with the Rev. Watson Wasden officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing.
A visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 at the funeral home.
She is survived by: daughters Carol Lowe and Janice Corey, both of Georgiana and Jill Black of Greenville, and eight grandchildren.

George Allison

ALLISON, George Byron, 70, a resident of Prattville, AL, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at a Montgomery hospital. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, with The Reverend John Bagby officiating. Lt. Col. (Ret.) Allison honorably served his country for 28 years as an Officer of the United States Air Force. He is also a retiree of the State of Alabama, Department of Public Health, where he served for ten years. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Mildred S. Allison, and his father, James R. Allison. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Pamela and Michael Goretzky, Munich, Germany, and Barbara Allison, Troy, AL; two grandchildren, Noah Byron Allison and Emilia Allison Goretzky; his mother, Eloise Medley Allison, Columbus, OH; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Donna Allison, Woodbridge, VA; one sister, Janet Allison, Knoxville, TN; one aunt, Helen Powell, Hendersonville, NC; several nieces and nephews, a number of other relatives, and loving companion, Mary Tuell, Prattville, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, c/o The Building Fund, 178 East Fourth Street, Prattville, AL 36067.

James J. McGough

James J. McGough, 88, a resident of Honoraville died Wednesday April 16, 2008.
Funeral services was held on Friday April 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Spring Creek baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Winn officiating and Harrison Funeral Home directing.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. McGough is survived by his wife, Audrey McGough of Honoraville; daughters, Polly Foster, Fort Deposit and Linda Talley, San Antonio, Texas; brother, Foster McGough, Greenville; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Cecil Chavers

CHAVERS, Phillip Cecil, 86, a resident of Prattville, AL, died at home on Wednesday, November 15, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., from White Pond Baptist Church, White City, AL, with Reverend Lamar Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson’s Cemetery, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Chavers was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Flossie Newman Chavers; one grandson, Alton Glennis Carter, Jr., one granddaughter, Susan Smith, and one great-grandson, Blake Smith. He is survived by six daughters, LeMerle (Otis) Shedd, Nelda (A.G.) Carter, Carol (Archie) Martin, Agnes Mullins, Shirley Gandy, and June (Ken) Marbutt; two sons, William (Pam) Chavers and Harold (Pat) Chavers; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be James Shedd, Jeff Carter, Kenneth Roy, Tony Martin, Brian Chavers, Michael Smith, and Forrest Marbutt. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Shedd, Phillip Roy, Thomas Mullins, Bobby Figurin, Jason Marbutt, Milton Donovan, Toby Litaker, Hershel Welson, Eugene Williams, Pete Huett, Ralph Wright and Aubrey Raines. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Friday, November 17th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to White Pond Baptist Church, c/0 The Building Fund, 1898 County Road 21 North, Prattville, 36067.

Jerry Cauthen

CAUTHEN, Jerry L., 55, a resident of Millbrook, AL, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 22, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend Larry Burke officiating. Burial will follow in Able Cemetery in Gantt, AL, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Cauthen was preceded in death by his father, C. E. Cauthen. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Connie Cauthen, Millbrook, AL; one son, Tim Cauthen; his mother, Gela Cauthen, Prattville, AL; one sister, Janice (Herb) Murray, Booth, AL; three brothers, James Cauthen, Prattville, AL, Bobby (Lisa) Cauthen, Destin, FL, and Herbie (Glenna) Cauthen, Elmore, AL; his mother-in-law, Georgia Blackmon, Gantt, AL, and two granddoggers, Minnie and Jazzi. Pallbearers will be Phillip Murray, Bryan McGalliard, Charlie Baugh, John Crisp, Mac Gilliand, and Herb Murray. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Friday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m.
