Venara K. Franklin of Cuthbert died Feb. 3, 2003, at Pheobe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. She was 88. The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at The First Baptist Church. The Revs. Tom McClendon and Ken Hall will officiate and interment will be in East View Cemetery.

Reginald Gray of Meharis Circle in Dothan died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center after an extended illness. She was 42.

Adeane Bedsole Gresham, a resident of Wesley Manor Retirement Center, Dothan, died Monday morning, February 3, 2003, in a Dothan hospital after a short illness. She was 79. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2003, in the Newton City Cemetery with Rev. David Willis officiating and Holman-Headland Mortuary directing.

Leonard Martin Harris, of 305 Roberts Street, Dothan, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at the V. A. Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He was 64. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Van Gauthe officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

James Robert Howard, a resident of Twin Magnolias Assisted Living, Abbeville, died early Tuesday morning, February 4, 2003, in Extendicare Health & Rehabilitation Center in Dothan. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2003, in the Camp Springs Baptist Cemetery, near Columbia, with Darden Kirby officiating and Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, Inc., P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, Alabama 36302.

J. D. King, of Young America Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003. He was 70. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Patterson Street Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Adolph Noble officiating. Mr. King will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Interment will be held at Gates of Heaven Cemetery with Unity Funeral Home presiding. Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 1 - 7 p.m.

Myrtice Gomillion Kirkland died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla. She was 80. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel and Burial will be in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale, Fla. Pastor Fred Bailey and Minister Randal Myers will officiate. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel.

James A. "Jimmy" Maddox of Mandarin Avenue in Dothan passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. He was 69. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Jamie Danford officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home directing. The family will accept flowers, but requests that memorial contributions be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 1619 South Park Ave. in Dothan.

Azzie Lee McCray of Carl Street in Dothan passed Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at her residence. She was 97.

John Lewis Mullins Jr., of 528 Santolina Road in Dothan, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Flowers Hospital. He was 74. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Dothan Chapel with Dr. Harper Shannon and Dr. Cecil Sanders, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Ward-Wilson Memorial Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 - 8 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.

Frank V. Phillips, of 709 Lennox Ave. in Dothan, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at his home. He was 88. Reposing at Scott's Chapel Hill Mortuary in Enterprise. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Ala. Douglas David Reynolds, of Silverado Drive, Kinsey, died Monday morning, February 3, 2003, in a Dothan hospital after a brief illness. He was 61. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2003, in the Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, near Headland, with Rev. Dave Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory with Holman-Headland Mortuary directing.

Ann Kirkland Schamp, of Tulip Lane, died Monday, February 3, 2003 at her residence following an extended illness. She was 77. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Woodham and Rev. Frank Arledge officiating. Burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday. At other times the family will be at the home of Bob and Wanda Schamp, 110 Country Lane in Dothan. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P. O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, Alabama, 36302.

Eudean Hardy Speigner, of Falcon Drive, Dothan, died early Tuesday morning, February 4, 2003, at the home of her son. She was 78. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.Thursday, February 6, 2003, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jerry Walker and Rev. Jack Davis officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Rehobeth cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland. Marvin L. Weeks of Hartford passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in Hartford. He was 83. Mrs. Ocie Sadie Young of Live Oak, Fla., and formerly of Graceville, Fla., passed Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in St. Petersburg, Fla. She was 85.

Mr. James Bale Babbitt Jr. of Geneva passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva. He was 87. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Feb. 1 at Devco Baptist Church in Geneva with the Rev. Olan Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Enterprise.

Robert Lee Barkley of Dothan died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at his residence. He was 60. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today, Feb. 1 at Springfield A.M.E. Church, 4194 Union Road, Marianna, Fla., where the Rev. John Hurst Adams Sr. is presiding bishop, the Rev. Thelma Shaw-Young is presiding elder and the Rev. Charles Flowers Sr. is pastor with the Rev. Zibbie Dawsey Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The cortege will assemble at 11:15 a.m. today at 209 Winslow Court, Dothan.

Mrs. Mary Tucker Cotton of Campbellton, Fla., passed Thursday evening at 9 p.m., Jan. 30, 2003, at her residence. She was 96. She was a native of Jackson County and a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Campbellton, Fla. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Fla., 850-263-6834.

Pixie Lee Floyd of Extendicare Hospice Services, Dothan, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003. She was 88. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 at Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan with the Rev. Murry Kelly, the Rev. Al Skipper and the Rev. Jerry Harden officiating. Burial will follow at Harper's Joy Assembly of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb.1 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Leila Balkcom Nix, formerly of Columbia, died Thursday night, Jan. 30, 2003, at Cedar Springs Road, Blakely, Ga. She was 84. Lester Pete Powell of South Bay Springs Road, died Thursday evening, Jan. 30, 2003, following an extended illness. He was 31. Mr. Addis Odel Watson of Winter Haven, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, of pneumonia at Winter Haven Hospital. He was 92. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 at Cypress Cathedral, 1801 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven, Fla. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice of Auburndale, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, Fla. 33823 and Cypress Cathedral's Real Life Children's Ranch Orphanage. Geraldine Helms Woodside of Hartford died of natural causes Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Carroll County Hospital in Westminster, Md. She was 90 A memorial service for Geraldine will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at United Methodist Church of Hartford.

Willie Espy Andrews of Midland City died Feb. 5, 2003. He was 73. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at the Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church in Midland City with the Rev. W.F.
