Barbour, Daisy Wells, 83, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2006, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Minister Paul Tarence officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Barbour was preceded in death by her husband, John Boyd Barbour; one son, Johnny Ray Barbour; one son-in-law, Bill Holder; and sister, Thelma Mason. She is survived by her two daughters, Emma Louise “Weasie” Holder, and Lynn (Ron) Moates, both from Prattville, AL; one sister, Mary Jane (Billy) Matthew, Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Debbie Holder (DeWayne) Thompson, John Wainwright, Michael Ray Jordan, all of Prattville, AL, and Jimmy (Trina) Holder of Colorado Springs, CO; two great-grandchildren, Devin Thompson, and Julia Wainwright, and a very special caregiver, Jackie Willis. Pallbearers will be Kenny Yancey, Henry Evans, Jack Zigler, Harvey Jordan, Walt Wainwright, and Dewayne Thompson. Wade Mims Monroe
Wade Mims Monroe, 80, a resident of McKenzie, Ala. died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012. Mr. Monroe’s family accepted friends Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Georgiana, Ala. Funeral Services for Mr. Monroe were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with David Monroe, Rev. Alvin Blackburn, and Rev. Jerry Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in South Butler Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home, Georgiana, Ala. directing.
Mr. Monroe is survived by is wife, Margret Ann Monroe, McKenzie, Ala.; daughter, Annette Monroe Thomas, Midway, Ga.; sons and daughters in law, Wade and Lisa Monroe, Greenville, Ala. and David and Sharon Monroe, Smyrna, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Sabra and Peter Anderson, Cari and Daniel Forbes, Dylan Thomas, Amanda Monroe, Tyler Monroe, Wes Clackum, and Nick Monroe and one great grandson, Oscar Anderson.
Mr. Monroe graduated from Conecuh County High School in Castleberry, Ala. in 1950. After high school he attended Auburn University and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor degree in Agriculture Administration. He served as a Private in the Army during the Korean War as a Communication Specialist. After working at Monsanto Carpet Company for 27 1/2 years, he decided to retire. In addition to his professional life, he was very active in his personal life. He was a member of Pittman Park Methodist Church in Statesboro, Ga. He worked with little league baseball and football at Brentwood School in Pensacola, Fla. Mr. Monroe was also a chairman of Red Cross Blood Drives in Bullock County for 13 years and has a center named after him at Statesboro Hospital that was established for individuals to donate blood at the hospital rather than a blood drive.
Wallace Redman Barber
BARBER, Wallace “Bud” Redman, 73, a resident of Pine Level, AL, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 28, 2004. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., from the First United Methodist Church in Pine Level, with Reverend Ray Bass officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Prattville Memorial directing. Mr. Barber honorably served his country for eighteen years as a Veteran of the United States Army Airborne Division. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Bobbie Barber. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tom Grizzle, Hollywood, FL; one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Shelli Barber, Prattville, AL; three grandchildren, Emily Barber, Noah Barber, and Lily Grizzle; one sister and brother-in-law, Tene and James Crosby, Prattville, AL. Pallbearers will be Kenny Paul Hunt, Dwayne Martin, Mickey Cothran, Mark McKinney, Max Bush and Mike Vinson. Flowers will be appreciated as well as memorial tributes which may be sent to Odyssey Health Care, 1345 Carmichael Way, Montgomery, AL 36106. The body of Mr. Barber will lie-in-state one hour prior to his service. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Chester Leon Salter Sr.
Chester Leon Salter Sr., age 86, of Stallings, N.C. and formerly of Greenville, died Monday, December 17, 2007. The funeral was held Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. William Leverette officiating. Visitation was Wednesday, December 19, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Harrison Funeral Home in Greenville.
Mr. Salter was born in Butler County in the Friendship Community on May 11, 1921 and resided in Butler County until recently. He was preceded in death by his wife Minnie Lee Hickman Salter. He is survived by his son, Leon Salter and wife, Colleen C. Salter of Charlotte, N.C., and his granddaughter, Leah Elizabeth Salter of San Francisco, CA.
Other surviving relatives are his sisters, Margaret Laubenstein of Manassas, Virginia, Virginia Lasswell of Littleton, Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Salter joined the Civilian Conversation Corps in 1938 and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the beginning of WW II where he served in the European Theatre. At the conclusion of the war, he returned to Greenville and began his career as a farmer. He also held numerous additional jobs, retiring from Casey Propane Gas Company. Mr. Salter was a longtime member and deacon of Central Baptist Church.
David Canterbury
CANTERBURY, Forrest David, 29, a resident of Prattville, AL, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 28, 2007, from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007, at 1:00 p.m., from the Church at the Brook, with Reverend R. O. Eubanks officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. David was a devoted father, son, grandson, and uncle. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul David Canterbury, and two grandfathers, Reverend James Flowers and Dennis Wade Canterbury. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karin Canterbury; one son, Pablo Canterbury, his mother, Sheila Baxter and step-father, Steve Locklar; one sister, Jennifer Fisher; two grandmothers, Betty Flowers and Shelba Jean Canterbury; two nieces, Kaitlyn Fisher and Morganne Fisher; one nephew, Dekotah Fisher; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sergio and Belinda Sanchez; one brother-in-law, Sergio Sanchez, Jr., two sisters-in-law, Luissa Sanchez and Gaby Sanchez, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Pallbearers will be Sergio Sanchez, Sr., Sergio Sanchez, Jr., Santiago Burgos, Joel Jackson, Joey Groves, and Adolfo LaCourt. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Kathryn Barber
BARBER, Mrs. Kathryn, 80, a resident of Millbrook, AL, went home to glory on Sunday, September 23, 2007. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Barber was a much beloved Mama and Granny. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, R. Q. Barber. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Verona and Ken Yancey, Hope and Darrin Gibson; two granddaughters, Traci (David) Varon and Wendi (Michael) Payton; and five great-grandchildren, Haydn and Easton Varon, Dawson, Hannah, and Emily Payton. Jean McCrory Pharr, 79, a resident of Pine Apple, Ala., died on Wednesday, October 16, 2012, at Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Montgomery, Ala. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Mrs. Pharr was preceded in death by her parents Noah McCrory and Ida Mae Tait McCrory. Elouise S. Mathew, 85, a resident of Ft. Deposit, died Friday, January 11, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Helms officiating. Interment took place at Highland Memory Gardens in Logan, West Virginia at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
