Leroy Rivers will be remembered at his funeral services held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from Hopewell A.M.E. Zion Church, the Rev. Peggy Cook, officiating.
Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Hudson Funeral Service of Greenville directing. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Annie Rivers; daughter, Betty (Richard) Jackson of Live Oak, Fla.; one sister, Lodee Campbell of Greenville; four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Willie D. Sims
Willie D. Sims will be remembered at his funeral services held on 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from R.L. Austin Elementary School in Georgiana with Hudson Funeral Services of Greenville directing. He leaves to cherish his memories, a stepfather, Leon Franklin of Georgiana; sister, Patricia (Crochen) Tripp of Mobile; Delorise Sims, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three brothers, one devoted, Jerry (Melissa) Sims of Georgiana, Willie Edward (Gloria) Sims of Greenville, Lonnie Sims of Milwaukee; two stepsisters, Eva May Sims of Fort Deposit; Ruby Eddins of Greenville, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
James Allen Cherry
James Allen (Jasper) Cherry died January 11, 2008 in Rochester, N.Y. Funeral arrangements were handled by Verbie's Funeral Chapel, 168 North Palmer Ave., Georgiana, managed by Mr. Karl Bell, a licensed funeral director from Hayneville. Gloria Crosby served as funeral director.
Mr. Cherry was born August 13, 1951 to Annie and Theodore Thomas Cherry. He joined the McKenzie Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age. A member of the 1973 graduating class of Georgiana High, he was loved by all.
He leaves to mourn his passing, a devoted mother, Annie Ruth Cherry; one daughter, Shoneta (Curtis) Henderson; two grandchildren, Dezaria and Tyler; two brothers, Otis (Carol) Cherry, Kenneth (Iranelle) Cherry; two sisters, Rebecca (LaKarl) Seals, Christie Poole; three aunts, Dorothy Foster, Annie Will Poole and Geraldine Poole; a special brother, Larry Mallory; special friends, Cary Cheatham, Eddie Earl Paige Sr., J.C. Anderson and Bobby Ray Kent, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Ruby Bagwell
BAGWELL, Ruby Lee, 80, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., from Camellia Baptist Church, with Reverend Glenn Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Bagwell was born in Douglasville, GA in 1927 and married Herb Bagwell in 1942. She was a military wife for 27 years and raised her six children in Okinawa, Turkey, Puerto Rico and seven different states. She loved her many travels to other countries such as England, Germany, Japan, Guam, the Philippines, Panama, and Hawaii. She was a member of Camellia Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. For twenty years, she managed The Cottage Restaurant in Prattville. Mrs. Bagwell loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by beloved husband, Herbert Troy Bagwell; her parents, William and Emma Baker; one sister, Quinola Baker; one son-in-law, Jimmy Turner, and two grandchildren. She is survived by five daughters, Candy Turner, Gail (Bob) Stewart, Shirley (Ed) Roso, Joy Hanson, and Marie (Dave) Hall; one son, Troy (Maggie) Bagwell, Jr.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Thompson; two brothers, W. T. Baker and J. C. Baker, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Lisa Burns
BURNS, Lisa Christine, 40, a resident of Millbrook, AL, died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, June 18, 2005. Funeral services will be held on, June 24, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., from Prattville Memorial Chapel with Reverend Mike Mozingo officiating, Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Lisa grew up in Greendale, WI, and moved to Alabama in 2000. Mrs. Burns served as a child nutrition director for the Elmore county Board of Education for the past three years. She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Burns of Millbrook, AL; two sons, Caleb Engel and James Engel; one daughter, Victoria Engel, all from Merrill, WI; two step-sons, Robbie Burns and John Burns both of Millbrook, AL; one sister, Lynn Weinberg of Oak Creek, WI; parents, Fabian Strong, Mel and Carol Saganski of Franklin, WI. Pallbearers will be Dean Familton, Trini Montalvo, Dean Hickenbotham, Jay Hirschberg, Joel McCord, and Andy Dishman. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Journey Church, 67 Wisteria Pl., Millbrook, AL, 36054.
John Allen Cheatham
John Allen Cheatham died December 20, 2007 at his residence in Georgiana. Funeral services were held on Dec. 28, 2007 from Georgiana High School with the Rev. Samuel Jenkins officiating and Verbie's Funeral Chapel of Georgiana, Mr. Karl Bell of Hayneville, directing.
Mr. Cheatham was a licensed funeral director who managed and directed Verbie's Funeral Chapel. Prior to this, he studied at Trenholm State Technical College to be a practical embalmer/funeral director. He worked for Foreman's Ambulance Service as an EMT and served with Foreman Funeral Home for 40 years. Later he joined Verbie's Funeral Home where he remained until his death.
Mr. Lorenzo Wright of the Alabama Board of Funeral Directors and Morticians and assistant director of the National Funeral Association was on hand at the funeral service to give comments about Mr. Cheatham's service to the community as a funeral director.
Verbie Payne stated he was a loyal and supportive person of his profession, loyal to his work and the people he served. He will be truly missed by all who came into contact with him.
He was preceded in death by the late Betty Jean Hartley Cheatham and from his union he leaves two children, Jacqueline (Lindsey) Gandy and Denise (Mark) Cross of Georgiana. Later in life he united in marriage to his loving wife Ester R. Maye Cheatham and from the union two children were born; Terrall (Sylvia Holder) Cheatham of Phoenix, Ariz., and Chitqutee Cheatham of Georgiana; he also left to cherish his memories two sons, Shannon (Loretta) and Michael Bonner of New Mexico; he also helped to raise Anthony (Shameka) Woods of Millbrook; five brothers, Mizell (Barbara) Cheatham, Carey Lee Cheatham, Joseph Peterson (two deceased brothers, Robert (Ida) Cheatham and Roy (Barbara) Cheatham); six sisters, Annie Laura (Willie) Hasaway, Johnnie Pearl Dawson, Nancy Carol Johnson, Patricia (Henry) Barron, Kay Francis (William) Rice and Mable Jean Jackson; grandchildren, De'Nasia, Mykel, Dedarian, Lexis, Terrall, Jamie, Adrian, Rashad, Tonya, Cassandra, Paul, Jerman, Lindsey Jr., Lil Mark, Areney, Quanisha, Shantell and a special granddaughter whom he raised, De'Shaylia Jacques Cheatham; special friends, Leon Franklin, Samuel Blackmon, Verbie Payne, Helen Poole and Kyle Mobley; one godchild, Amaya Jackson, a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

James Bachelor
BACHELOR, James Thomas, (Lt. Col, USAF, Ret’d), 73, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 3, 2007. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 7, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend Randall J. Tucker officiating. Burial will follow, with full military honors, in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Bachelor served his country honorably for 22 years before retiring from the United States Air Force during which time he was the recipient of several commendations and awards. Following his military career, he studied law at Jones Law Institute and became a practicing attorney in Prattville before retiring in 1995. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Bachelor, Prattville, AL; one daughter, Karen Crawford, and her fiancé, Robert Fowler, Huntsville, AL; three sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Robyne Bachelor, Grotin, MA, James and Margaret Bachelor, Pittsford, NY, Scott and Teri Bachelor, Poulsbo, WA, and eight grandchildren, Caleb, Megan, Sean, Annelise, Ian, Sarah, Carly, and Haley. Pallbearers will be the United States Air Force Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Sunday afternoon from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Sarah Grace S. Roberson
Mrs. Sarah Grace Stallings Roberson, affectionately known to everyone as "Miss Bay," age 92, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 6, 2008.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 10 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church with Brother Lomax Owens and Brother Philip Herring officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery with Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.
Miss Bay was born to Sam and Grace Heaton Stallings on November 24, 1915 in Manningham. On June 16, 1934 she married the love of her life, "Mr. Ed" William Edward Roberson, her husband of 69 years until his death in 2003.
Miss Bay was a dedicated servant at First Christian Church working faithfully in every ministry of the church but most importantly in her capacity for decades as director of children's activities, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School director, and member of Christian Women's Fellowship. She also served as Girl Scout leader. Her greatest legacy is the difference she made in the lives of so many children.
Miss Bay was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace Ellen Roberson. She is survived by two daughters, Sue (Kyle) Arnold of Greenville and June (Ben) Pryor, of Birmingham; two sons, Jimmie (Camille) Roberson, of Trussville, and Robert (Joyce) Roberson, of Hoover. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren, Renee' Roberson (Luke) Reid, of Aiken, SC; Ginger Pryor (Brian) Golden, of Homewood; Laurie Pryor (Robert) Brockman, of Birmingham; Keith (Amy) Roberson, of Helena; Kyle (Nicolle) Roberson, of McCalla; Joel Roberson, of Auburn; Jerod Arnold and Leslie Arnold (Frank) Rutland, of Montgomery; and Jennifer Grace Arnold, of Greenville. Great-grandchildren include Ashley Grace Reid of Aiken, SC; Graham and Laura Catherine Carlton, of Homewood; Shane Brockman, of Birmingham; Sterling, Jackson and Frank Rutland, Dustin Bradford and Caleb Arnold, all of Montgomery; Jack Roberson, of Helena; and Cayde Todd, of McCalla.
Pallbearers were Keith, Kyle and Joel Roberson, Graham Carlton, David Burt, Chris Hollyhand, Tom Newton, and Bill Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were Fred Taylor, Shirley Roberson, Lynn Roberson, Eddie Roberson, Johnny Roberson, Mike Morris, Mickey Brown, Cecil Cross, and Tony Butts.
The family received friends on Saturday, February 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home.
