EVERGREEN - Leonard Dean Harper, a resident of Evergreen, died Saturday in a Monroeville nursing home.
He was 68.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Harper of Evergreen; one son, Marcus Leonard Harper of Buena Vista, Ga.; one daughter, Jeannie Harper Gaskin of Evergreen; three sisters, Voncile Radford of Evergreen, Kate Smith and Inez Smith, both of Smiths; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen.
Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen is handling arrangements.

Alpha D. Smith
EVERGREEN - Alpha D. Smith, a resident of Evergreen, died Thursday in a Thomasville, Ala., hospital at the age of 88.
Survivors include three sons, Clarence E. Smith and James R. Smith, both of Thomasville, and John W. Smith of Theodore; one daughter, Annie Mae McNeil of Evergreen; 10 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 11 a.m. today at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen with burial in Mount Union Cemetery.

Gracie M. Carpenter
MILLRY - Gracie M. Carpenter, a homemaker, died Wednesday in a Mobile hospital.
She was 70.
Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Evergreen, Ala., and a resident of Millry.
Survivors include his two daughters, Carolyn Carpenter of Mobile and Debra C. Tucker of Chatom; two sisters, Mildred King Parmer of Satsuma and Marie King Bell of Deer Park, Texas; six brothers, Eugene King of Evergreen, Douglas King of Citronelle, Chester King of Horseshoe, N.C., Bob King and Tom King, both of Galena Park, Texas, and Jack King of Foley.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom, Ala., with burial in Springhill Cemetery in Chatom.

Howard T. McAbee
EVERGREEN - Howard Thomas McAbee, an Evergreen resident, died Thursday at a local hospital.
He was 75.
He is survived by his wife, Thera McAbee of Evergreen; two sons, Frank McAbee and Johnny McAbee, both of Etna, Wyo.; one daughter, La Fonda McAbee of Red Level, Ala.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen.
Burial will be in Pigeon Creek Cemetery in Covington County.

Kathleen G. Bryant
MONROEVILLE - Kathleen Grace Bryant, a Conecuh County native and Monroeville resident, died Thursday.
She was 71.
She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Kay Anderson of Mexia; one son, James Lawrence of Wetumpka; one brother, William E. Grace of Monroeville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen.

Willie Elkin Powell
EVERGREEN - Willie Elkin Powell, a resident of Evergreen, died Tuesday at his home.
He was 81.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Powell of Evergreen; two daughters, Margaret Powell Cole of Columbus, Ga., and Marion Tenney of Vass, N.C.; one brother, Bill Powell of Mobile; two sisters, Sara Salter of Evergreen and Frances Dees of Bermuda, Ala.; and four grandchildren.
Services were Thursday at Arkadelphia Baptist Church.
Burial was in Bellville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Cope Funeral Home of Evergreen handled arrangements.

Columbus DeWitt Matthews
FOLEY - Columbus DeWitt Matthews of Foley died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999.
He was 82.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie Frances Matthews of Foley; two sons, Bernie Roger Matthews of Pell City and Glen D. Matthews of Clarkesville, Ga.; a daughter, Nita Schillaci of Atlanta; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Matthews will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
