Macie Byrd

FRISCO CITY - Macie Florence Dawson Byrd, a retiree of Vanity Fair Mills of Monroeville, died Monday in a Monroeville hospital. She was 81.

Mrs. Byrd, a native of Monroe County, lived in Frisco City. At Vanity Fair Mills, she had worked in the quality control department.

She was a member of Frisco City Methodist Church and was an active member of the Welcome Women Sunday school class.

Survivors include two sons, Rennie Clayton Byrd of Frisco City and Donnie Dawson Byrd of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Lugene Bailey of Frisco City and Betty Byrd Belcher of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; three brothers, Ralph Dawson and Owen Dawson, both of Frisco City, and Tommy Dawson of Pearland, Texas; three sisters, Opal Bell and Doris Bell, both of Repton, Ala., and Otis Bell of Pensacola; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services are set for 11 a.m. today at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville, with burial in Union Cemetery in Frisco City.

Buster Montgomery

BEATRICE - Buster Lewis Montgomery, who had worked as a machine operator, died Thursday at a Mobile hospital. He was 75.

A native and lifelong resident of Beatrice, Montgomery was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Vredenburgh, Ala., where he served as a deacon. He was also a longtime trustee at Beatrice Elementary.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Montgomery of Beatrice; three sons, Willie Lewis Montgomery of Beatrice, Jeffrey Montgomery of Huntsville and Reginald Montgomery of LaGrange, Ga.; three daughters, Mattie Prevo and Francis Montgomery of Beatrice and Shirley Black of Hubert Heights, Ohio; two brothers, Benjamin Montgomery of Pensacola and Sam Montgomery of Beatrice; one sister, Corrie Baldwin of Beatrice; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Vredenburgh, with burial in the Chestnut Community Cemetery in Chestnut. Jones Unity Funeral Home of Monroeville is in charge of arrangements.

Willie B. Williams

BEATRICE - Willie Bell Williams, who had worked as a school bus driver for the Monroe County school system, died Thursday at a hospital in Monroeville. She was 68.

Mrs. Williams, a native of Wilcox County, lived in Beatrice. She was a member of Rosebud AME Zion Church in Oak Hill, Ala.

Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Walker, Dorthy W. Frye and Minnie Lett, all of Beatrice; four sons, Fred L. Williams of Killeen, Texas, Clifford Williams, Harold Williams and Michael Williams, all of Beatrice; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Rosebud AME Zion Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with Jones Unity Funeral Home of Monroeville directing.

Dorothy L. Hartsough

MONROEVILLE - Dorothy Lanona Hartsough, who worked as a school teacher, died Tuesday in a Birmingham hospital. She was 50.

Mrs. Hartsough, a resident of Monroeville, was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Chuck Hartsough of Monroeville; her parents, R.A. and LaVerne McDonald of Jackson, Ala.; one son, Jason Grider of Auburn, Ala.; one brother, Dr. Preston A. McDonald of Anniston, Ala.; and three sisters, Helen Henley of Midland, Mich., Ellen McVay of Jackson, and Kathy Earl of Mobile.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville, with graveside services at 3 p.m. in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson.

Miyoshi T. Lett

PETERMAN - Miyoshi Tamiko Lett, a native and resident of Peterman, died Saturday at her home. She was 24.

She is survived by her parents, Dwight Howard of Opelika and Elzora Lett of Peterman; her daughter, Miquisha Lett of Peterman; and four sisters, Melanie Odoms of Beatrice, and Crystal Howard, Candace Howard and Cokie Howard all of Opelika.

Viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Antioch Baptist Church, with services to follow. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Arrangements are by Funeral Home of Monroeville.

Virginia McPherson

MONROEVILLE - Virginia "Ann" McPherson, a native and resident of Monroeville, died Monday. She was 43.

She is survived by her father, Lonzie Bettis Sr. of Fairhope; three daughters, Erica, Salinda and Ashley McPherson of Monroeville; four brothers, Willie J. Bettis, Larry J. Bettis and Darryl Bettis, all of Monroeville, and Lonzie Bettis Jr. of Fairhope; two sisters, Areatha Howard of Monroeville, and Eulaine Adams of Pensacola; and three grandchildren.

Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. today at St. Peter Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Funeral Home of Monroeville.

Maxie H. King

FRISCO CITY - Maxie Herald King, a former tug boat crewman, died Saturday at his home. He was 73.

King, a World War II veteran, was a Monroe County native and Frisco City resident.

He is survived by one son, Johnny King of Auburn; one daughter, Brenda K. Barfield of Michigan; one brother, T.J. King of Cherry Hills, N.C.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Union Cemetery in Frisco City.
