Hybert J. Reed
DOTTELLE - Hybert Jefferson Reed, a retiree of International Paper Co., died Tuesday at his home. He was 78.
Reed, a mill employee with the paper manufacturer, was a Monroe County native and resident of the Dottelle community. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Brooks Reed of Dottelle; two sons, Thomas Hybert Reed of Mobile and David Jefferson Reed of Monroeville, Ala.; a daughter, Pauline Asberry of Monroeville; a brother, Carl W. Reed of Monroeville; a sister, Voncille Reagan of Repton, Ala.; and six grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville, with burial in New Home Cemetery in Monroeville.

Thomas Ackerman Sr.
FRISCO CITY - Thomas Donald Ackerman Sr., who worked for more than 40 years in the paper industry, died Monday in Rutherglen, Va. He was 70.
Ackerman, a native of Cottageville, S.C., was a resident of Frisco City.
He studied engineering at Clemson University, then began his career in the paper industry. In 1991, he retired as manager of maintenance at Alabama River Pulp.
He spent more than 30 years in the Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of captain.
Ackerman was a founding member of New Life Church of Monroeville, Ala., where he served as chairman of the board and treasurer. In addition, he had been instrumental in establishing New Life Christian School.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Myra Spradley Ackerman of Frisco City; three sons, Thomas Donald Ackerman Jr. of Merryville, La., George Paul Ackerman of Rutherglen and Richard Mark Ackerman of Cohutta, Ga.; a daughter, Deborah Ackerman Burns of Conway, Ark.; a sister, Elizabeth Ackerman Grimsley of Charleston Heights, S.C; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville, where services are set for 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Pineville Cemetery in Monroeville.

Nicholas T. Cummingham
MONROEVILLE - Nicholas Terez Cummingham, a native of Mobile and resident of Monroeville, died Tuesday in Monroeville at the age of 7 weeks.
Survivors include his parents, Cleo and Minnie Cunningham; a brother, Cleo Cunningham Jr.; and a sister, Marquita Brown, all of Monroeville; and a stepsister, Cleopatra Cunnington of Gautier, Miss.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with Jones Unity Funeral Home of Monroeville directing.

Mary Straughn
PERDUE HILL - Mary Palmer Gaillard Straughn, a member of Perdue Hill Presbyterian Church, died Wednesday at the age of 90.
Mrs. Straughn was a lifelong resident of Perdue Hill.
Survivors include a son, A. Pinckney Straughn; two sisters, Lucy G. Johnson and Ida M. Gaillard of Perdue Hill; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today, with services at 11 a.m., at Perdue Hill Union Church. Burial will be in McConnico Cemetery, with Johnson Funeral Home of Monroeville directing.

Flossie Crossley
MONTGOMERY - Flossie Margetta Lambert Crossley, a Monroe County native and a resident of Montgomery, died Nov. 5 . She was 71.
Mrs. Crossley had worked as a Head Start teacher in Detroit.
Survivors include four sons, Kirtwright Lambert of Montgomery, Ronald Lambert and Christopher Lambert, both of Detroit, and Willie Lambert of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three daughters, Brenda Paulin of New Rochelle, N.Y., Jacqueline Lambert-Davis of Hampton, Va., and Florastine Seymour of Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Geraldine Singleton, Florestine Young and Lula Stallworth, all of Detroit; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church in Monroeville, with burial in the church cemetery.

Larry W. McBride
PINEVILLE, La. - Larry Wayne McBride, a self-employed tree surgeon, died Thursday at his home. He was 40.
McBride, who resided in Pineville, was a native of Monroe County, Ala.
Survivors include his daughter, Samantha Martin of Alexandria, La.; his parents, Velma and Zollie McBride of Monroeville; six brothers, Marion McBride, Edward McBride, Jerry McBride, Ray McBride, Johnny McBride and Ricky McBride, all of Monroeville; four sisters, Carolyn Rowell of Monroeville, Betty White of Alexandria, La., Deborah Warren of Excel and Barbara Jay of Frisco City.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. today at Monroe Chapel Cemetery in Monroeville.
Monroe Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Lowrey
MONTGOMERY - Evelyn Shelby Lowrey of Montgomery, a former longtime resident of Burnt Corn, died Sunday. She was 85.
Mrs. Lowrey was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, the English Speaking Union, the Helen Keller Study Club and Burnt Corn Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Samuel Graves Lowrey Jr. of Montgomery; two daughters, Shelby Lowrey Jones of Houston and Anne Lowrey McMillan of Montgomery; three sisters, Frances Shelby Brewer and Nancy Shelby Thurmond, both of Charleston, Miss., and Mayme Shelby Dernoncourt of Leawood, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be this evening from 5:30 to 7:30 at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville. Services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at th funeral home, with burial at Puryearville Cemetery in Burnt Corn.
