S.J. Whisenhunt Sr.

MONTGOMERY - Savage J. Whisenhunt Sr., a former resident of Monroe County and longtime educator, died Friday in a local hospital. He was 91.

The Montgomery resident was a 1946 graduate of Alabama State University. He served as a supervisor and principal at high schools in Atmore, Beatrice and Anderson, Ala.

He retired from ASU, where he had served as executive director of the Alabama State University Foundation.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Whisenhunt; and a son, Savage Whisenhunt Jr.

Services took place Monday at St. John's AME Church in Montgomery. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, with White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home in charge.

Memorials may be made to the S.J. Whisenhunt Memorial Scholarship Fund, ASU Foundation, P.O. Box 1046, Montgomery, AL 36101-1046.

Ethel Kilpatrick Falls

MONROEVILLE - Ethel Kilpatrick Falls, a Monroeville resident, died Thursday at home. She was 94.

Mrs. Falls, a member of Monroeville Church of Nazarene, is survived by a son, Calvin Falls of Monroeville; two daughters, Margie Hernandez of Monroeville and Dorothy Mixon of Houston; a sister, Verter Floyd of Mexia; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home.

Lawrence R. Luker

Lawrence R. Luker, a Monroe County native and resident, died Friday at a local nursing facility. He was 87.

He was a member of Excel Assembly of God and worked for the town of Frisco City for many years.

He is survived by three sons, Bobby L. Luker and Gregg Luker both of Old Salem Community and Randy Luker of Frisco City; five brothers, Calvin Luker of Monroeville, Ulus Luker and Ira Luker, both of Phenix City, Jack Luker of Old Stage Road, and Earl Luker of Laurel, Miss.; a sister, Bertha Bowen of Frisco City; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville. Burial will be in Excel Cemetery.

English H. Cody:

A native and resident of Mobile died Friday, November 19, 1999 at a local health care facility. He was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church, a Veteran of WWII and was retired from Brookley Air Force Base. He is survived by a brother, Wilmer S. Cody, Sr. of Mobile; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from St. Paul Episcopal Church on Monday, November 22, 1999 at 1:00 P.M. with interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Funeral arrangements by RADNEY FUNERAL HOME, Dauphin Street Extension, Mobile, Alabama 36606.

Mrs. Dora W. Davis:

A native of Loango, AL and resident of Mobile, AL, born August 16, 1904 passed Thursday, November 18, 1999 at a local hospital. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where she formerly served as a member of the Senior Usher Board, Senior Choir, Nurses Guild and Sunday School Teacher. She leaves to mourn, one nephew, Willie Johnson of Andalusia, AL, great niece, Sandra Johnson of Montgomery, AL., cousins, Edna Rice, Eddie Lee (Mamie) Giles, Jr., Vernett Giles, Darry Sanders I, Darry Sanders II, all of Mobile. Her remains will lie in state at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home Tuesday, November 23, 1999 from 12-5 P.M. and after 12 noon Wednesday, November 24, 1999 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 461 Texas St. Visitation will be from 1-2 P.M. at which time Rev. James Murphy, Pastor will conduct the funeral service. Interment Casher Cemetery. Mr. Odes C. Lindsey:

A native of Covington Co., AL and resident of Whistler died at a local health care facility Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at the age of 87. Mr. Lindsey was a charter member of the Carpenter, Millwright and Fabricators Local #89. He was presented the Gold Card and carried the 50 Year Book from Local #89. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Cole Lindsey, son, Odes Ferrill Lindsey, two grandsons, Todd Layman Harden and Tracy Lynn Harden. He is survived by six daughters, Evelyn Jeanette Harden, Wanda Juanita (Jerry) Wilkins, both of Mobile, Barbara Ann (Jack) Bridgeman of Chattanooga, TN, Frances Lucille (Fred) Dawkins of Eight Mile, Vivian Louise (Buddy) Randall of Daphne and Linda Jane (Maurice) Chavers of Semmes; four sisters, Evelyn Mildred McCloud, Sarah Inez Lindsey, both of Pensacola, FL. Edith Pauline Morley of San Antonio, TX and Carmel Marie Lindsey of Mobile; two brothers, James Crawford (Dallas) Lindsey of Newfoundland and Curtis Oneal (Mary) Lindsey of Flomaton, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 22, 1999 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 23, 1999 at 10 AM from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home with graveside services following at 12:30. Interment will be in Galilee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Stapleton, AL. Funeral arrangements were by RADNEY FUNERAL HOME, 1200 Industrial Parkway, Saraland, AL.

Mrs. Bessie Waldon McDade:

A native of Jackson, AL resident of Mobile, AL died on Sunday, November 21, 1999 at the family residence. Mrs. McDade was a member of the American Orchid Society, the Mobile Orchid Society and First Baptist Church of Semmes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint McDade and her son, Allen P. Waldon. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dolores M. Waldon of Mobile, AL and two step-sons, Neil McDade of Mobile, AL and Everest McDade of Ashville, NC; two sisters, Mammie Spooner of Leaksville, MS and Alice Golden of Bascom, FL; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, November 23, 1999 from 10 AM until 12 noon followed by funeral services at 12 noon in the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Gladys Viola Welch:

A native Flat Rock, AL and resident of Mobile died Saturday, November 20, 1999 at her residence. Mrs. Welch is preceded in death by her husband, James Welch, Sr. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Charles) Stahly, of Mobile, Sandra (William) Mandigo of Beacon, NY.; one son, James (Carol) Welch, Jr. of Mobile; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be today from 12 noon until 2:30 P.M. at Serenity funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. in the Chapel. Interment will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are by SERENITY FUNERAL HOME, 8691 Old Pascagoula RD, Mobile, AL.
