Cleo Cunningham
MONROEVILLE - Cleo Cunningham, a retired furniture maker for Frisco Manufacturing Co. of Frisco City, Ala., died Tuesday at his home. He was 44.
Cunningham, a Monroe County native and resident of Monroeville, was an Army veteran. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Monroeville.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Cunningham of Monroeville; a son, Cleo P. Cunningham; two stepsons, Calvin Lett of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Patrick Lett of Fort Polk, La.; two daughters, Cleopatra Cunningham of Pascagoula, and Marquita Brown of Monroeville; nine brothers, Eddie Bonner and J.P. Cunningham, both of Monroeville, Earl McCarthy, Billy Ray Cunningham and Charlie Fred Cunningham, all of Peterman, Ala., Tyrone Cunningham of Pensacola, Darren Cunningham of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., David Lee McCorvey of Griffin, Ga., and Lee Cunningham of Burnt Corn, Ala.; four sisters, Minnie Lou McCorvey of Peterman, Bessie Cunningham of Monroeville, Sharon Stallworth of Middletown, Ohio, and Carolyn Cunningham of Pensacola; and seven grandchildren.
Services are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Jones Unity Funeral Home of Monroeville is in charge of arrangements.

Verter K. Floyd
MEXIA - Verter Kilpatrick Floyd, a Mexia homemaker and a lifelong resident of Monroe County, died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 92.
Survivors include three daughters, Christine Stanton of Pensacola, Ernestine Pullen of Brewton, Ala., and Frances Watson of Beatrice, Ala.; six grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville. Services are set for noon Saturday at the funeral home, with burial at Shiloh Cemetery in Frisco City, Ala.

John Edward Hanks

Mr. John Edward Hanks, age 87 of Mexia, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Hanks, a native of Mississippi, served in the United States Army from March 1951 to March 1953.
After serving his country, he moved to Flint, Michigan and worked with General Motors for 40 years.
He moved to Mexia in 1987. Mr. Hanks was a member of the Monroeville First Assembly of God Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roman Buford Hanks and Grace Beatrice Long Hanks Morris; his daughter, Sherry Newsome; his son, John Arlin Hanks; his sisters, Larue Whitney and Peggy Stone; and his brother, Frank Hanks.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Ann Hanks of Mexia; four sons, Frank Hanks of Monroeville, Randy Hanks of Saginaw, Michigan, Douglas Hanks of Beaufort, NC and Glenn Hanks of Hemet, CA; one daughter, Sue Jetton of San Dimas, CA; half-brother, Donnie Ray Morris of Mississippi; step children, Ronnie (Dixie Barker) McKenzie of Knoxville, Tennessee and Audrey Silcox of Dothan; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Lomax Lunsford and Rev. Willie Young officiating.
Burial will follow in Mexia Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 29th from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Linda Louise Wells
Mrs. Linda Louise Wells, age 68, of Lake City, Fla. died Saturday, June 22, in the Suwannee Valley Care Center, Lake City, Fla. following a long illness.
She was born in Monroeville, Ala. and resided in Bay City, Texas before moving to Lake City in 1985.
She worked as a sales tax counselor with the Florida Department of Revenue, Lake City office for over 25 years before her retirement.
She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church, enjoyed playing golf and was active in her church family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Howard Wells, her parents, Henry Wiggins and Inez Dunn Wiggins and three brothers, David R. Wiggins, Leroy Wiggins and Railford Wiggins.
She is survived by five siblings, John (Cathy) Wiggins of Wetumpka, Ala., Ann (John) Hanks of Mexia, Ala., Jeaneice (Max) Bray and Leonard Wiggins both of Monroeville, Ala. and Dottie (Jimmy) Baker of Excel, Ala.: Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A visitation gathering will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday, June 24, at Guerry Funeral Home, Lake City, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Tuesday, June 25, in the Chapel of Monroe Funeral Chapel, 2252 Highway 84 West, Monroeville, Ala. with a one hour before visitation.
Interment will be in Mexia Cemetery, Mexia, Ala.

Fannie Mae Gibbs
MONROEVILLE - Fannie Mae Gibbs, a seamstress for a textile plant, died Monday.
Mrs. Gibbs, 54, who resided in Monroeville, was a native of Monroe County. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Pilgrim Pride Chapter No. 808 in Natchez, Ala., and of New Liberty AME Church in Tunnel Springs, Ala.
Survivors include her husband, Marshall Gibbs Sr. of Monroeville; three sons, Marshall Gibbs Jr. of Monroeville, Anthony Gibbs of Peterman, Ala., and Darren Gibbs of Atlanta; two daughters, Cynthia Gibbs and Theresa Gibbs, both of Monroeville; a brother, Willie Fountain of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Earnestine Stallworth, Ethel Hale and Polly Montgomery, all of Monroeville, and Debra Harris of Cleveland; and 10 grandchildren.
A wake is planned on Friday night from 6 to 7 in at Jones Funeral Home Monroeville. Services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at New Liberty AME Church in Tunnel Springs, with burial at the church cemetery.

Carrie L. Sheffield
FRISCO CITY - Carrie Lee Sheffield, a Frisco City homemaker, died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 93.
Mrs. Sheffield was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.
Survivors include a son, Claude D. Sheffield Jr. of Frisco City; a brother, Bernice Morris of Cottondale, Ala.; a sister, Lucille Brock of Semmes; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville, with burial at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Uriah, Ala.
