GAINESTOWN - Daffie Edmond, a homemaker and member of St. John the Baptist Church of Gainestown, died Sunday at her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Edmond, a native of Gainestown, had served as a deaconess and mother of her church. She also was a member of the L.V. Williams Pride Order of the Eastern Star No. 730.
Survivors include a daughter, Authorine Davis of Mobile; two sons, Nathaniel Edmond of Gainestown and Frank Barnes of Detroit; 19 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Gainestown, with viewing one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Good Hope Cemetery in Gainestown.

Ola L. Gladney
JACKSON - Ola Lee Gladney, a Jackson homemaker, died Sunday in Jackson.
Ms. Gladney, 77, was a native of Marengo County.
Survivors include four sisters - Fannie Gladney, Earline Lewis and Josie Johnson, all of Birmingham, and Theresa Price of Uniontown, Ala.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson. Services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Union Missionary Baptist Church, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Gwendolyn Sims
JACKSON - Gwendolyn Sims, a native of Jackson, died Sunday of natural causes in Jackson.
Mrs. Sims, 49, was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, David Sims of Mobile and John Sims of Jackson; two daughters, Sallie Sims of Jackson and Laura Sims of Mobile; her mother, Lorena Bettis of Jackson; a sister, Della Ann Rencher of Mobile; two brothers, Milton Bettis of Mobile and George Bettis of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday night from 6 to 8 at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson. Services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Union Missionary Baptist Church, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Austin Williams
ALMA - Austin Williams, a retired logger, died Monday in Jackson.
Williams, 73, was a native of Alma, where he resided.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Williams; and three sons, Austin Williams Jr., Jerome Williams and Erbie Williams, all of Alma; 10 daughters, Claudine Williams, Laria B. Williams, Mammie Williams, Luverne Williams, Vann Williams, Gloria Foxx, Barbara Washington and Racheal Robinson, all of Alma, Augustine Jemison and Dorothy Williams, both of Walker Springs, Ala.; a sister, Virgia Foxx of Alma; two brothers, Jefferson Williams and Frank Williams, both of Alma; 56 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson, Ala. Services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Antioch AME Church of Alma, with burial at Antioch Cemetery.

Joan H. Daniels
FULTON - Joan Hudson Daniels, a seamstress at Vanity Fair, died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 64.
Ms. Daniels was a member of Fulton Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Joe Michael Daniels of Fulton; two sisters, Barbara Morgan of Fulton and Maxine Fendley of Silverhill; and two grandchildren.
Services are set for 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Fulton, with burial at Henley Cemetery.
O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Marion I. Goodman
THOMASVILLE - Marion Irons Goodman, who had been owner and manager of Delmar Restaurant, died Tuesday at a Mobile hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Goodman, an Alabama native, was a resident of Thomasville. She was a member of Thomasville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William Byrd Goodman of Thomasville; two sons, William Richard Goodman of Theodore and Ronnie Byrd Goodman of Thomasville; a daughter, Elizabeth Goodman Nellis of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother, Richard A. Irons Jr. of Thomasville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 1 p.m. today at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, with burial in Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville.
Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children's Home in Selma.

Gripper James Jr.
JACKSON - Gripper "Hudie" James Jr., a retiree of D.L. Chastain Logging Co., died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 77.
A Choctaw County native, James was a resident of Jackson, where he was a member of Mount Olive No. 2 Baptist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Lillie McKenzie James of Jackson; two sons, Roy James of Salitpa, Ala., and Kendrick James of Jackson; a daughter, Arlene Coleman of Jackson; a sister, Evelyn Sims of Rockville, Ala.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Mount Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Daphine M. Pugh
GROVE HILL - Daphine Martin Pugh, a retired sewing machine operator with Vanity Fair Mills, died Saturday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 48.
Mrs. Pugh was a native and resident of Grove Hill and a member of Mount Zion No. 2 Baptist Church of Grove Hill.
Survivors include her son, Brandon Pugh; her mother, Lardella Martin; and her sister, Lillian Martin Thomas, all of Grove Hill; and two brothers, McArthur Martin of Mayo, Fla., and Garner Martin Jr. of Grove Hill.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Zion No. 2 Baptist Church in Grove Hill, with viewing one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.

THOMASVILLE - Jasen Thomas Ross, a native of Selma and resident of Thomasville, died Tuesday. He was 25.
He is survived by his mother, Peggy Ross of Thomasville; three brothers, Daniel C. Ross of Citronelle, Henry Alan Ross of Paris, Texas, and Clarence Matthew Ross of Grove Hill; one sister, Leann Ross of Grove Hill; and two grandmothers, Bertha Gray Williams of Thomasville and Mary Jane Knight of Grove Hill.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 this evening at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Magnolia Lawn in Grove Hill.

George E. Wade Sr.
JACKSON - George Edward Wade Sr., a former painter and resident of Jackson, died of natural causes Tuesday in Hamilton, Ala. He was 67.
Wade was a native of Alabama. He had been a member of the local Painter's Union.
He had also been a member of Stave Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mettie Lucille Wade of Jackson; two sons, George Edward Wade Jr. of St. Stephens, Ala., and Van Wade of Jackson, two daughters, Wanda Darlene Atchison of Jackson and Kathy Sullivan of St. Stephens; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson, where services are set for 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Overstreet Cemetery in Salitpa, Ala.
