Funeral services for Ada E. Ratliff, 87, Clanton, were held on Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Maplesville Methodist Church, with Rev. Earl Watson officiating.
Burial followed in Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery in Lawley, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Ratliff was born on March 31, 1912, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late John C. and Drucilla Chapman. She was a homemaker. She died on Oct. 30, 1999, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton.
Survivors include four sons, Sidney Ratliff, Lawley; Gerald Ratliff and Johnny Ratliff, both of Prattville; and Jerry Ratliff, Sylvan Springs; one daughter, Janice Hayes, Maplesville; two brothers, Jewel Chapman and Glenn Chapman, both of Lawley; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Ethel Ruth DeFreese
Funeral services for Ethel Ruth DeFreese, 69, Alabaster, were held on Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Rocko Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, with Henry Williams officiating.
Burial followed at Montevallo City Cemetery, with Rocko Funeral Home directing.
DeFreese died on Oct. 29, 1999, in Alabaster.
Survivors include her husband, George W. DeFreese, Alabaster; one daughter, Judy Ann Rothert, Jemison; one sister, Vera L. Donna, Montevallo; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, George W. DeFreese III.
Robert J. Thomaston
Funeral services for Robert J. Thomaston, 88, Clanton, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roland Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist Cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Thomaston was born on Oct. 25, 1911, in Tallapoosa County, the son of the late Albert Matthew and Sula Thomaston. He was an aircraft mechanic. He died on Oct. 31, 1999, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton.
Survivors include one wife, Marie G. Thomaston, Clanton; two sisters, Ida Ray, Clanton, and Ruth Lindsey, Birmingham; one brother, Martin Thomaston, Sylacauga; two grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Tommie Dean Kirk.
Nettie R. McDaniel
Funeral services for Nettie R. McDaniel, 85, Jemison, were held on Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Calvin Smitherman officiating.
Burial was held at Mars Hill Cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
McDaniel was born on May 26, 1914, in Chilton County. She was a homemaker. She died on Oct. 29, 1999, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster.
Survivors include five sons, Willie Jack McDaniel and Jesse Wayne McDaniel, both of Ocala, Fla., and Andrew McDaniel, Marvin Durwood McDaniel and Michael McDaniel, all of Clanton; one daughter, Mary A. Absher, Jemison; three sisters, Reathe Mae Cofer, Jemison, and Tommie Louise Barker and Helen Ruth Edwards, both of Prattville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Marie H. Smith
Burial for Marie H. Smith, 71, Verbena, was held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Pineview Memory Gardens in Selma, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Smith was born on Feb. 3, 1928, the daughter of S.G. and Tessie Blumenshine. She was a homemaker. She died at her residence on Oct. 31, 1999.
Haywood Choat Burt
Funeral services for Haywood Choat Burt, 75, Maplesville, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Duke Fulgrum and Rev. John Ingram officiating.
Burial will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery in Stanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Burt was born on Dec. 29, 1923, in Alabama, the son of the late John Wesley and Lee Burt. He was a crane operator. He died on Nov. 1, 1999, at Selma Baptist Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Burt, Maplesville; two sons, Wade Burt, Maplesville, and Robert Burt, Stanton; four daughters, Mary Ann Smith, Jemison, Nile Pugh, Maplesville, Judith Marie Reynolds, Plantersville, and Theresa Mendez, West Blocton; two brothers, John Wesley Burt and Felix L. Burt, both of Stanton; and five sisters, Lavadie Hayes, Stanton, Lillian Green, Maplesville, Rudy Gandy, Clanton, Alberta Adams, Prattville, and Carolyn Jones, Bessemer; 14 grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Millard Martin Reynolds, Sr.
Graveside services for Millard Martin Reynolds, Sr., 83, Plantersville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at the Plantersville Christian Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Wyatt and Rev. Barry Crowe officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home of Selma directing.
Pallbearers include David Jones, Danny Tharpe, Doug Austin, Todd White, John Pomeroy, and Frank Daniel. Honorary pallbearers include Bradley Caps, Billy Thompson, Tommy Joe Fulford, and Jamie Rainer.
The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Reynolds died on Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Birmingham hospital.
Children include three sons, Millard Martin Reynolds, Jr., Plantersville, Michael Hodgens Reynolds, Selma, and Franklin Burt Reynolds and his mother Judith Burt Reynolds, Selma; one daughter, Ryanne Reynolds Johnson, Birmingham; one sister, Dorothy Daniel, Maplesville; and six grandchildren.
