Funeral services for Velma J. Thornton, 83, Clanton, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ralph Jones and Rev. Tony Smitherman officiating.
Burial will follow at Chestnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Thornton was born on Dec. 26, 1916, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late J.B. and Susie Jones. She was a homemaker. She died on March 26, 2000, at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, James Smolon Thornton, Clanton; one son, Harold Thornton, Clanton; one daughter, Janice Wilson, Holtville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Roger Ladon "Don" Burnett
Funeral services for Mr. Roger Ladon "Don" Burnett, 54, of Jemison will be held at 11 a.m. today at Martin Chapel, with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist No. 1 Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Burnett was born on May 9, 1945 in Alabama to the late Lavern and Icye Blow Burnett. He died on March 28 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.
He is survived by one son, Donald Burnett of Columbiana; one sister, Ann Payton of Jemison; one brother, Mike Bolton; and one grandson.
Perlie Mae Browder
Funeral services for Mrs. Perlie Mae Browder, 55, of Clanton were held on Thursday, March 24, at Union Baptist Church in Clanton, with the Rev. Melvin Hunter officiating. Interment followed at Agee Memorial Gardens, with Agee Brother's Funeral Home directing.
Browder was born on Nov. 8, 1944, to the late Grant and Arabell Caffe in Coosa County. She died at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton on March 17.
She is survived by one son, Eric Browder of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Charlotte Browder of Clanton; four brothers, Cleveland Caffee, Eugene Pearson, both of Clanton, Sylvester Caffee, Archie Caffee, both of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Mary Cook of Fairfield; and five grandchildren.
Leola Edwards Jones
Funeral services for Mrs. Leola Edwards Jones, 87, of Selma will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lee Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Creek Cemetery in Clanton, with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
She is survived by two daughters, Cathryn Strickland, Teena Langston, both of Selma; three sisters, Ruby Hatchell, Minnie Killingsworth, both of Selma, Annie Pearl Williams of Clanton; two brothers, Wilbert Edwards of Verbena, Henry Earl Edwards of Selma, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Tim Wendell, Aubrey Latham, Billy Edwards, Pete Edwards, Todd Langston and Wilford Langston.
Mary Vermelle Lawrence
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Vermelle Lawrence, 89, of Lawley will be held at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church at 2 p.m. tomorrow, with the Rev. Wayne Bullard officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery, with Rocko's Funeral Home directing.
She is survived by two sons, Leland Lawrence of West Blocton, Kenny Lawrence of San Jose Calif.; three daughters, Shirley Honeycutt of Pelham, Janice Whetstone of Columbiana, Maybeline Crowe of Lawley, 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Daniel Lowery, Jimmy Crowe, Kevin Crowe, Donnie Lee, Curtis Carter, Henry Whetstone and Gary Lawrence.
Jadie Emmail Ferguson
Funeral services for Mr. Jadie Emmail Ferguson, 84, of Jemison will be held tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Teague officiating. Burial will follow at Chilton Memorial Gardens, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Ferguson was born in Bibb County on Feb. 9, 1916, to the late Columbus Leon and Decie Ann Smitherman Ferguson. He died on March 28 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.
He is survived by is widow, Earlene Ferguson of Jemison, two daughters, Peggy Slay of Chickasaw Sue Caton of Irvington; two sons-in-law, James Slay of Chickasaw; Marshall Caton of Irvington, one brother, Cecil Ferguson of Randolph; one sister, Gladys Smith of Randolph, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Ollie Dean Connell

Connell was born on March 28, 1936, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Albert And Ida Lou Chadwick. She was a homemaker. She died on April 3, 2000, at her residence.
Survivors include one husband, Thomas C. Connell, Clanton; four daughters, Doris Moore and Rose Moore, both of Verbena, Katie Bruce, Mobile, and Peggy Castleberry, Clanton; one son, Allan Connell, Clanton; one sister, Louise Gothard, Jemison; one brother, Dudley Chadwick, Clanton; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sue Ann Connell.
