Funeral services for Kathryn M. McGowin, 78, Marbury, will be held at Prattville Community Church on Friday, May 5, 2000, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bobby Hicks and Rev. David Awtrey officiating.
Burial will follow at White City Cemetery, Prattville, with Martin Funeral Home officiating.
McGowin was born on March 6, 1922, in Cuera, Texas, the daughter the late James R. and Mary Belle Whitten Meek. She was a homemaker. She died on May 3, 2000, at her residence.
Survivors include four sons, Rev. Bobby McGowin, Maplesville; Larry McGowin, Prattville, Lowell McGowin, and Eddy McGowin, both of Marbury; one brother, T.J. Meek, Winter Garden, Fla.; and one sister, Helen Judah, Bellview, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sarah Ozelle Surles
Services for Mrs. Sara Ozells Surles, 81, of Billingsley were Saturday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Britton officiating.
Burial was in New Cedron Baptist Church Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Surles died at Warren Manor Nursing Home in Selma May 4.
Survivors include a son, Ronnie Surles of Jemison; five daughters, Mrs. Jerri Smitherman of Jones, Mrs. Susan Taylor and Mrs. Judi Edwards, both of Selma, and Mrs. Sara Sims of Billingsley; four sisters, Opal D. Donahoo of Billingsley, Mrs. Marie D. Fenn of Florence, Mrs. Carolyn Pierce of Verbena, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
James Percy "Pap" Davis
Funeral services for James Percy "Pap" Davis, 87, Jemison, was held at Liberty Methodist Church in Moundville on Monday, May 8, 2000, at 11 a..m, with Rev. Roy Ingram and Wayne Wyatt officiating.
Burial followed at Liberty Methodist Church in Moundville, with Rocko Funeral Home directing.
Davis died on Friday, May 5, 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Wyatt Davis, Jemison; nine daughters, Becky Smith and Ann McDonald, both of Jemison, Mary Vance, Clanton, Margaret Smith, Lawley, Ruby Allen, Maylene, Frances Scurlock, Helena, Bonnie Scurlock, Brantleyville, Linda Lucas, Wilton, and Faye Sorrow, Centreville; six sons, Daniel Davis, Moundville, Jerry Davis, Wilton, William Davis, Maplesville, Ronnie Davis, Kenny Davis, and Rayburn Davis, all of Jemison; three sisters, Willie Mae Wood, New Haven Conn., Mary Wilson, Beulah, and Irene Woods, Moundville; four brothers, Troy Davis, Greensboro, Newman Davis, Sayerville, Dotson Davis, Douglasville, Ga., and Curtis Davis, Phoenix; 45 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
James Ernest Hammell
Graveside services for James Ernest Hammell, 92, Sylvan Springs, were held on Saturday, May 6, 2000, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Ronnie Brooks officiating.
Burial followed at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Hoover, with Brown Service West Chapel in Hueytown directing.
Hammell was the son of John R. and Sarah E. Hammell and had five brothers and sisters. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He and his wife, Zola Hammell, were marriage for 73 years. He died on Thursday, May 4, 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Zola Hammell, Sylvan Springs; four children, Nyle Crumpton, Phoenix; Estelle Lepper, Fairfield; Clara Burnette, Saraland, and Frances Willis, Adamsville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Watley was born on Feb. 5, 1964, in Alabama, the daughter of Lois Marie Combs and the late Haze William Combs, Sr. She was a legal secretary. She died on Bulldog Bend Road on May 8, 2000.
Survivors include her mother, Lois Marie Combs, Thorsby; one son, Joshua Parker, Thorsby; one daughter, Tiffany Watley, Jemison; and four brothers, Morgan Scoggins, Snellville, Ga., Steve Scoggins, Chattanooga, Tenn., Haze W. Combs, Jr., Birmingham, and Doug Combs, Thorsby. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Hodges.
Harlon Vastene Cleckler

Burial will follow at Bell Lane Cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing.Cleckler was born on April 27, 1940, in Alabama, the son of Lennie Wyatt and the late Obie Cleckler. He served in the Army and was employed as a truck driver. She died on May 8, 2000, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.Survivors include one son, Kevin Cleckler, Centre; two daughters, Melissa Rutland, Midland City, and Amy Jackson, Ozark; her mother, Lennie Wyatt, Clanton; one brother, Hollis Cleckler, Clanton; and one granddaughter.
