Wallace Cowart
Funeral services for Wallace Cowart, 77, Clanton, will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Roland Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Cowart was born on July 30, 1922, in Chilton County, the son of the late Colbert Hobson and Mary Cowart. A senior master sargeant, Cowart fought in World War II and the Korean War. During the Korean War, he was prisoner of war for 34 months in north China. Afterward, according to his family, he received the Purple Heart and the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was proud to serve his country.
He died at Veteran's Hospital in Montgomery on May 28, 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Cowart, Clanton; one son, Charles Ames, Montgomery; one step-son, Chan Aldridge, Prattville; two step-daughters, Marsha Aldridge, Montgomery, and Donna Lemmond, Albertville; three sisters, Ruth Peel, Peggy Wilson, and Bill Cowart, all of Montgomery; two brothers, Bill Cowart and Charles Cowart, both of Montgomery; and eight grandchildren.
James Harlin Garner
Funeral services for James Harlin Garner, 79, Jemison, where held on Monday, May 29, 2000, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Randal Mims officiating.
Burial followed at Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Garner was born on June 22, 1920, in Shelby County, the son of the late Ernest and Anna Garner. He was an iron worker. He died on May 26, 2000, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster.
Survivors include his son, Jim Garner, Hoover; one daughter, Judy Atkinson, Shelby; one sister, Lorene Robinson, Prattville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Julius Woodrow (Pete) McCraw
Funeral services for Julius Woodrow (Pete) McCraw, 86, Clanton, will be held at Mulberry Baptist Church at Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at 11 a.m., with Rev. David Bishop officiating.
Burial followed at Mulberry Baptist Cemetery in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
McCraw was born on July 7, 1913, in Alabama, the son of the late Jessie L. and Emma McCraw. He was a foreman. He died on May 29, 2000, at his residence.
Survivors included his wife, Jessie Lola McCraw, Clanton; three daughters, Emma Sue Willis, and Wilna Jean Ramsey, and Nancy Lee Gore, all of Clanton; one son, Julius Warren McCraw, Maplesville; one sister, Emma Lou McGuire, Montgomery; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Floyd Mann
Funeral services for Floyd Mann, 64, Jemison, will be held on Friday, June 2, 2000, at 2 p.m at Oak Hill Church, with Rev. Phillip Averett officiating.
Burial will follow at Midway Memorial Gardens in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be at Oak Hill Church after 9 a.m. on Thursday until time for the funeral service.
Mann was born on June 28, 1935, the son of the late Johnny and Betty Mann. He was a delivery truck driver. He died at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Eva L. Mann, Jemison; two sons, Ronnie Mann, Georgetown, Ky., and Douglas Mann, Eddyville, Ky.; five daughters, Connie Beeler and Bonnie Sharp, Georgetown, Ky., Gail Henderson, Matha Headley, and Tina Mann, all of Jemison; five brothers, Thomas Mann, Albion, Mich., Charles Mann, Waterloo, Ind., Ross Mann and Jessie Mann, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Johnny Mann, Auburn, Ind.; three sisters, Betty Woods, Waterloo, Ind., Blanche Hilsmier, Garrett, Ind., and Louise Osbun, Auburn, Ind.; and 12 grandchildren.
Noella M. Turcotte
Funeral services for Noella M. Turcotte, 82, Jemison, was held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 1, 2000, at 10:30 p.m., with Father Ray Remke officiating.
Burial followed at Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Turcotte was born on May 11, 1918, in Louisiana, the daughter of the late Robert and Ana Mary Laurent. She was a seamstress. She died on May 30, 2000, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Flynn, Lafayette, La.; four sons, Rodney Turcotte, New Orleans, La., Raymond Turcotte, Rowlett, Texas, Allen Turcotte and David Turcotte, both of Jemison; one sister, Verna Laurent, New Orleans, La.; four brothers, Bobby Laurent, Metairie, La., Melvin Laurent, Maryland; Leo Laurent, Chalmette, La., Ervin Laurent, Washington; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Jettie Myrtle Pierce
Funeral services for Jettie Mrytle Pierce, 92, Verbena, will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2000, at 3 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Olen P. Hutchins and Rev. Joe Wyatt officiating.
Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Verbena, with Martin Funeral Home officiating.
Pierce was born on July 10, 1907, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Clyde Leon and Josephine Pierce. She was the manager of the Belk Hudson in Montgomery. She died on May 26, 2000, at Wetumpka Nursing Facility.
Survivors include four sisters, Thelma Pierce, Verbena, Jewell Scott, Prattville, Joyce Fitzgerald, Lakeland, Fla., and Shirley Owens, Clanton; three brothers, Herbert Pierce, Fairhope, James Pierce, Clanton, and Buddy Pierce, Enterprise; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Thomas Robert Elders
Services for Thomas Robert Elders, 69, of Plesant Grove will be Wednesday, June 7, at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Church with the Rev. Phillip Averitt officiating.
Burial will be in Midway Memorial Gardens with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Elders died June 5 at Cottage Hill Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Bice of Calera.
